PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

Hey, Ford, how dare you release a new SUV when I wanted a new sports car?!?

The Ford factory can't even possibly make a new sports car with their current infrastructure. Look, I've got over 26000 hours of driving time and I'm telling you that all of us who are out here driving vs other drivers we just want the existing SUVs to run better. Ford should just focus on those DvD issues and not waste time on a sports car the roads can't even handle when there are SUVs out there at the same time....

Improvements to challenge data loading so we can change objectives without breaking the data or making a challenge become not completed.
Oooh. That would be great. Was quite the pain adding a bunch of new ones and then needing to make tweaks or something and breaking them all. Started lots and lots of new games. Haha.

That would be the Hold option, which we have except Tyler does not like the undocumented "tap" part of it, so they may become "Hold or Tap" or maybe just "Tap" and Hold be only hold, but we shall see.
Is that Hold/Tap a new thing that's being worked on? The way you worded it ("which we have") seems like you're saying it's already an option in the game. Maybe I'm misunderstanding? Right now, it's just On or Off. And that only really refers to whether or not the sprint lock disables when you stop holding a movement key. You can't currently prevent tapping sprint causing it to enable the sprint lock right now.

Hey @faatal, I don't remember if this has already been discussed, but is there a plan to move to a smooth pathing algorithm for zombies at some point?
There's a mod for it (and it's awesome, thanks @redbeardt), but I feel like this should be vanilla, especially since console users, for instance, can't use mods. (Asking for a friend.)

@faatal

I really like the extended timing you all have added to the zombies getting up.
It has inspired me to remove my xp counter, because when in a group especially a horde
it makes knowing unsure as to if they are faking or dead. Especially since they don't always
have a death animation. It's given me some ideas. Thanks

Question: If you can amputate arms and legs, the crawler is an amputated torso guts dragging,
and the cop becomes an eviscerated mess. What stopped the inclusion of basic decapitation in the game?
Like a double barrel to the face at point blank or a machete to the neck, leaving a headless corpse
flailing until it bleeds out.

I do realize there is amount of gore that is considered acceptable, or politically correct but the
three examples that are in the game, actually include it all. Just that the decapitation is made less obvious and
camouflaged by the explosion.

If you later add any more body part removals can you include the hands. Visually spraying
blood as they proceed to swing at the player, and having blood spatter on the screen, using
the same mechanic as the personal overlays. The spray when bleeding is incurred now could hit the screen if close
enough.

Just a gore option, for those that would not like it, they can leave it turned off.

It seems to boil down to them being mad that we did not work on their pet feature instead. Like we wasted our time on something they don't care for. Hey, Ford, how dare you release a new SUV when I wanted a new sports car?!?
Lol I was feeling spicy when I made that post. But yeah that is probably it lol

Ford should just focus on those DvD issues and not waste time on a sports car the roads can't even handle when there are SUVs out there at the same time.

(joking) Uggh. Where's the realism? The game is set in 2035 (or so). Like, zombies brought back DvDs? Pffft, sure! LOLz.

Too much emphasis on weather and such, what Id really like to see if a much bigger variety in weapons. Not just pipe pistol, 9mm pistol, smg, but rather pipe pistol, 20 versions of all kind of random pistols and then 10 different smgs. Same for meelee, got sharp bone then shank then sharpened metal bar then knife then, that's not a kinfe now thats a knoife, then swords then katanas finally a frickin chainsword. Spears, sharpened rebar, a pilum, a javelin some silly weapons like jousting spear or w/e give us weapon variety, that would be a cool update.

Bit of rain here and there and some wind will keep us entertained for exactly 2 times we see it, now a vast arsenal will keep us entertained for ever. Not like there is lack of real life guns / weapons to get inspiration from, so please add them to the game.

Never have I ever been more right. Just finished my latest playtrough and while it was fun the stupid weather system added nothing to it. It was entertaining exactly 1 time as something new and then every time a new storm would come my party would be like ■■■■ this sucks, lets go inside some bs house and demolish all interior and for what? It would be somewhat fun if this storm would spawn a horde attacking you or something but as it is it does nothing. Couldn't wait for it to be done so we could continue with actually fun stuff.

2 years for this crap is unbelievable. Complete waste of time and done in lieu of so many better things that could have been done, like weapon and zombie and vehicle variety.

New Zombies completely unbalanced too, met the blue and orange boys in the desert biome and got my eeass handed to me a couple times - they literally 2 shot you and at that stage we were still using spears and knives for our damage. But we persevered got to the last radiated biome, done the smoothy thing and moved our base and lived there for a while, only to find that it's like that - all game no real decent drops, some iron stuff here and there, some pistols maybe a shotgun. Move to last biome and bam tier 5 top weapons in every red lootbag, every infested mission will rain top tier armor and weapons at you, supercorn, never seen all game long, last biome it's like everywhere, more common than normal corn. Where balance? Nothing nothing and then boom everything all at once. Played 25 in game days with slowest time settings so time was moving slower than usual.

Ah and thing that I find most stupid was that we got a crucible for killing policeman zombies. That reward is waaaay too early for waaay easy challenge, need to change it, crucible should remain endgame otherwise what is the point.

All in all, we had our fun, but not thanks to this update, this update was opposite of fun, new weather system is ■■■■, new zombies spawn too early and are too hard (warrior difficulty, where everything else is doable / easy and these mofos too strong)

What was the fun stuff you wanted to continue that you couldn't because of the storm?
depends on the situation but from memory it would have been sorting the trash out of your vehicles into base chests which are outside for a quick use, it was hunting for mushrooms or mining coal for smoothies, other time it was the hogzilla ranch where main loot is outside.
Literally anything we would normally be doing is way more fun than to be locked inside a poi. On every 7th night we were thanking the devs for having clarity for not having the storm at the same time as the horde, one thing that they did right with this, everything else, though a total miss.

I won't bother talking about storms and biome progression since they are getting changes made to them, so any comments now don't really matter. Besides, they are options. Disable them if you don't like them. A couple points...

  • 1.0 was a year ago, not two. In fact, it wasn't even a full year ago.
  • So you got hurt by the new zombie tiers? Oh, no! So that means you have to actually try instead of being in easy mode? The horror! I actually find the blue zombies to be very easy. Their speed doesn't really make them more difficult, and I can kill them just as quickly as any other zombies... using my spear. The orange ones may take a little extra to kill, but they aren't that bad either.
  • You also mentioned the reward for killing cops. That isn't new. It has been that way since challenges were added back in 1.0. I'm also not convinced that the wasteland is giving any better loot than in the past. It's always given you really good loot. But now you are kept from going there immediately on day 1. And maybe it took you longer to reach there than in the past, so you were a higher game stage and loot stage, making it seem like better rewards than in the past, even though nothing changed.
  • Storms increase the range zombies will notice you (their "hearing"), so you can be attacked more often than without the storm. It's 2x versus having feral sense enabled, which is 2.5x. So it isn't a horde, but you'll still have a better chance of being attacked more often.

The silent majority may or may not like your product, but they are silent, so you just don't know.

I happen to hate your product. So much so that I have invested years of my precious free time playing it. I bought the DLC too just so everyone knows just how much I hate it. In your face, TFP! Haha! I am going to go back to playing your dumb little game and guess what? I have Storms and Biome Progression on. That's right. No one tells me what to do (except my mother)!

just 1 point on all that - sure let's disable the new stuff and have no new stuff in our favorite zombie game. So then a year to add 2 new zombies and add 2 new color schemes to existing zombies, is that what 2.0 is then? Impressive, no matter how you look at it....

But imagine if instead of adding this crap devs would actually add more weapons and gear and vehicles, now that would be a great update and wouldn't have to work overtime trying to undo the crap they did to save steam reviews. And before you advise to install mods, which I do, of course, our plebeian console players get no such luxury, for them it's vanilla all day long and right now vanilla is in a terrible state.

Heh. Considering a lot of people like storms and biome hazards, and more will like them once they are improved more, it is a good update. Keep in mind that I say that even though I will most likely have both disabled unless the changes they are making are enough to change my mind.

You want specific things. That doesn't mean things you don't want aren't of any value. More weapons or vehicles or gear are unlikely until after gold. At most, they might add a raft for water travel or a third tier for batons. And perhaps another trap or two. That is about it before gold.

More and more people play this game with each update, so saying it is a mess is hardly a fact. You get spikes with each update and then drops after as people get tired of playing the same game and play other games until the next update, but overall numbers keep going up.

The vehicles already have the "tap" option.
I'm still not use to utilizing it, I still hold the button.

Old habits are hard to break!
