I'm just wondering if there's a dedicated person working on game balance? I mean, I don't really know whose fault it is. The team is large and everyone is doing their own thing, but some of the "interesting" new features are, to put it mildly, not exactly balanced.
The most recent highlight is the dew collector. I really hope it gets fixed in 3.0. But there's no information about it, so I can only hope for the best.
To summarize the problem. The collector and its speed and quantity modifications are ABSOLUTELY useless, and their use is completely unjustified. It only makes sense when there's a filter. Without one, you just take empty jars and fill them in any puddle. But these are still recipes that the player has to spend game time on to unlock them.
Okay, let's say there's a community that's been asking for empty jars to be brought back. It's not such a bad idea. Especially since it's customizable and can be disabled (in terms of returning). It's not entirely clear why the food itself is being brought back, but that's beside the point.
Well, why kill something that was added previously and worked correctly in terms of balance? I mean, as far as I can see, the guys sat down and came up with this:
- Let's bring back the cans
- Yeah, that's a cool idea. Let's bring them back
But it seems like it's forgotten that this basically kills an entire mechanic. So, the question is, who can I write to about such things? And is this a general approach to adding other content? I always used to think there was a specific person or focus group who understood the intricacies of game balance and prevented such things. But now I'm not so sure.
