V2.5 Survival Revival Dev Diary

Okay, thanks for the explanation. I’m just wondering what kind of PC I would roughly need to be able to play the game on maximum graphics settings with good performance at a 1920×1080 resolution. If anyone could give me some advice, that would be great.

I have a AMD 5800X with a RTX6800 GPU 32 GB ram and 1TB NVME. i have most of the settings maxed out and i get mostly over 100FPS on 2560x1440P.
I was running on 1920 1200 ( 16x10) monitor and was not getting many more frames , this does seem to be more CPU bottlenecked than GPU.

I lean heavily on a friend who gets much deeper into hardware and performance than I do. His advice has been desktop over laptop for gaming. He cites video cards for laptops being more constrained and limited, often because of heat. The CPU matters and since many games cannot take advantage of many cores, the single core speed can be significant. Laptops often come with a CPU geared to be low heat or long battery life, which are contrary to high performance. RAM can matter. Windows is going to claim 8GB, so if you have 16GB, then you have 8GB left for the game, minus other things you might run, like Discord. If you're playing on a server then your networking matters. WiFi is less reliable than a wired connection. You can get into motherboard specs, like bus speed and more. There can be a lot to it.

My take on this has been ... 7D2D benefits from a fast CPU (single core speed), a decent graphics card, and RAM.

My other observation is the goal of "maximum graphics" is also saying you'll live with worse performance. That is, a conscious choice to prioritize appearance over performance.

Desktops and consoles both have much better air flow and ventilation than a laptop. Thin laptops are even worse than regular laptops. Even putting your laptop on a good cooler can only do so much. When any computer or console heats up, performance decreases. Part of that is due to the heat and part is due to the computer hardware automatically throttling down to keep from overheating too much. Any game that will push hardware to the limits (GPU intensive or CPU intensive) will heat things up more than other games, causing more of a problem. This game is CPU intensive, which is very different than most other games, which are normally GPU intensive (or not intensive at all). GPUs are often designed really well for cooling, but CPUs don't have a built-in cooling method and need an external heatsink/fan/watercooling method. Because it is external, the CPU developer can't make sure it's a good match, making it common to have a cooling method on the CPU that isn't as good as it probably should be unless you are building it yourself and pick something that is good. That's why this game can be more of a problem than other games, not to mention how voxels create their own set of performance challenges. But that doesn't mean this game doesn't need more optimization.

Best option is to get a desktop. If that's not what you want to do, look for a laptop with really good reviews related to performance in demanding games, primarily games that are CPU intensive. Get a fast CPU. Don't get an Intel CPU that has e-cores unless you plan to keep your games from using those as they will slow games down a LOT. Get at least 32GB RAM, and if you have the option, get the fastest RAM that works with the motherboard. If you can get RAM with good timings, that's even better. Get a good dedicated GPU (those are easy to compare). Get a good, fast SSD drive. And make sure you have a good power supply. Having a power supply that is too low wattage for the computer can cause problems.

That's a general idea of what you're looking for. Your best option is to find something you think is good and then post the info here and ask if people think it's good rather than hoping for very specific hardware recommendations that may not be easy to find exactly in a pre-built computer.

On the game's Steam account, there's a recommended PC configuration and a minimum one.
Normally, consoles shouldn't have any problems running the game properly.

The reality is quite different; even with a very powerful machine, a poorly optimized game will always be bad.
On the dev forum, I know it by heart; at one time, it was the PS4's "brotherhood" that wasn't powerful enough.
Anyway, we all make mistakes, but the game is in freefall, even with version 2.5, though they'll say the opposite. The hype for the game is low, and only a decent game will bring players back for good, but for me, since alpha 14, 15, and 16, I haven't been able to enjoy it like I did with those versions, or even earlier ones, but I don't really remember. Maybe version 19, I don't remember, but the last update for me I thought was great at the beginning, AFTER TRYING EVERYTHING, I really didn't get into it at all and it's the same for 2.5, I'm not about to play again unless... 3 hordes max.....

Ok I bite.
How do I get things like socks linens and undergarments in 7D2D 2.5.?
This is game day 16 and I have only found one of each. All of them tattered. I can't make them as far as I know and I have yet to find a trader that sells them.
I also have only found once insulated material for armor so far as well. Can't make them as well.
Which makes visiting the snow and dessert biome a pain in the butt.

Go check on Steam Charts or the game's sales. The 2.5 hype lasted 1 month, quickly came 2.6 and the ship sank. It's been years since players' playtime has been this low. And above all, despite the game's widespread popularity and the pseudo-golden version...
Without patches and if you hadn't listened and restored old mechanics or added immersion, the game would have ended under your feet with your books to read... And yes, practice is better, my friend...

Dangerous biomes usually have better loot. I think zombie loot bags can appear. I have the default loot and haven't encountered any problems, but I don't know about other settings. Try the burnt forest; it's more friendly at first.

I didn't really start finding more than the lowest level underthings until I got into the desert. I had one or two patchwork items but they were like level 1. I found those in Jen's city while I was raiding bookstores. I personally hate the burned so spend as little time as possible there. However, bookstores are just too yummy and there are good ones in those cities. So, once I got to the desert, it was hot, but I wasn't sweltering. I never took damage from the heat other than normal storm damage because I was an idiot.

I built a forward base there in the desert and managed to get missions to the Savage Country in several cities. LOTS of goodies in those places so the snow, though still deadly in storms, was doable. I did have to use torches and campfires several times, but digging underground actually saved my bacon when it got too bad before finding enough clothing mods. I do wish we could make the ones we need, but the search certainly made that mid-game lull much more fun.

Your observations are nothing new. The game has been in the same condition after each new release.

There's around a month of higher interest and game activity after each release (most times a Major one, sometimes a beefy Minor one) and then interest fades away to "normal" levels. Nothing new there.

2.6? I don't think 2.6 has been released yet, unless you're a QA tester and you are already playing the next version.

Sales are only one parameter. Sales for a game this old (even if it's not fully released yet) can't be that high. It's not like TFP can fabricate new players out of thin air. The market "share" for this game is mostly limited, and most sales that could have been done have already been made.

New players will come, for several reasons, but the percentage of available new players will always be small in the upcoming future.

You also have the Steam ratings, which is another important parameter, and they are currently Very Good.

The fact that you're an LBD evangelist tells much about your attitude towards the game (biased).
You won't be satisfied until you get full LBD implemented in a future version, but that preference is probably clouding your judgement.

With the new balancing that's what happens if you rush the biomes.
You try to skip (or rush) progression, but in doing that you take more risks and reach the snow biome less prepared.

That was your choice, which is alright, but then don't lament your bad luck.
It isn't bad luck, it's the fact you didn't play long enough to have time to find more/better clothing.

I don't know if this has been programmed inside the game "logic", but my impression has been that the game will drop increasingly better clothing based on what you already have. But it takes time.

@Jost Amman

ME, at least, I'm not a Bolshevik associated with pseudo-nationalists.
YOUR OPINION, actually, I’m lying, ■■■■ it. YOU HAVE NO OPINION, you’re just here to be right about everything, but my COUSIN, the game is dropping, it’s real.
We’re waiting for 2.6. COME ON, quickly, at a run, the sound of boots is coming, keep doing your job, the red one.
We know, don’t worry, whose side you’ll be on when the tide turns, but we’ll come back strong, the immersives, and this time we won’t set up camp.
It’ll be a detail of the war, and this time it’ll be more serious with you. I know what mechanics in the game are appreciated by mine. We don’t want RPGs; it’s unreal, magic, the curse of this game THAT BROUGHT IT TO THE LOWEST POINT.

You know you can "turn it off", do you?
I dont do it want to test mechanic to fullest, even thou most mechanicst like jars are there to annoy you and prolong early game struggle however stuff which was missing all this time was lategame :) and i m waiting to see when we will have single version be active for few month so i can finish 100% run without changing every few weeks to new version.
