PC Things TFP removed ... and you wish they hadn't

I was talking to my hubby this morning about 7 days, as you do, and he mentioned how the painkillers are garbage and we should just sell them. It reminded me about how painkillers used to be a valuable thing you'd never want to go out exploring without ... but now ... ? I'm day 97 and I've taken painkillers ONCE.

And it made me think about the other things TFP removed and effect they noodled ... that in my humble opinion have taken AWAY from the game experience:

- red tea / yukka juice / etc

Having drink effects to combat cold, heat, and such was GREAT. sometimes you'd find or craft a yukka juice in the desert and it was like a little lifeline. Now? All drink effects have been removed, so ... every ... single ... drink ... blends into colored water. We drink the stuff that's easiest to make; everything else just looks pretty in the storage cabinet.

- campfire heat

We accidentally and foolishly built our base near a snow biome (great for water tho!); those early days of building a base in the snow and freezing our butts off WAS AWESOME. Then I remembered back to 14.7 days when you could build a fire to keep warm in inclement weather ... all the time while the game is nagging me to build a fire to stay warm ... only to realize that you have to be RIGHT NEXT TO the fire to get any benefit. Shrinking heat range so aggressively basically rendered the fire near pointless for cold protection.

- forge heat

I used to love going into the forge room and experiencing a small heat wave; it felt realistic and was always a constant little *hug* when I got close to the area. I was down with it. Not sure why it was ever removed. Like it's one of those things removed because of ... reasons?

- Cops

IMHO the game has taken a really great stride forwards with the variety of the zombies, but it needs more unique threatening entities. I don't think there's enough RISK packed into the zombies types. SO when the cop appeared with his spitting and exploding behaviors ... holy balls was that some good stuff. I skipped A16 completely so I don't know what the impetus was behind this, but in A17 cops are "eh". I literally melee cops ... I never would have done that in A15, and their explosion is ... meh. First time I saw a copy explode in A14/15 and a carpark structure got f**ked up, I was genuinely terrified. Now? whatever. Not sure why they throttled them back.

- First Aid Kits & general medical supplies

I don't know if TFP tweaked something here ... but I've not had to use a med kit in 97 days of gaming. In fact, my entire medical box tends to get much less use than it used to. Never used honey (haven't needed to, but back in A14/15 it was GOLD), don't need herbal antibiotics, and never used a regular bandage as medical bandages have been all I've needed.

What things have been removed for YOU that you wish were still in the game?

- Log spikes

They have caused only little damage but have been very durable and always popular as a decorative element.

Gun part molds, totally miss those. I know you could get them in war of the walkers mod in 16.4. I now miss gun parts. I prefer the method used in Wotw where you could get a silenced barrel, or a extended magazine. 25 shots baby!!!

tungsten, gave you a reason to dig deep, then falling thru the floor and seeing the whole world.

UMA zombies- I like variety

Corpses- I actually liked cleaning up around the base, there was sometime satisfying about it.

Not having to punch items like flowers, berries, and cotton plants.

I know it was originally a glitch, but being able to crawl thru a single block.

Original cabins with just one room.

Terrain that makes sense, Oh wait that hasn't happened yet. :crushed:

Gore blocks. They were ugly and didn't ever live up to their potential but there were times that they would pile up and zombies would path up on them and those were awesome moments.

Digging Zombies. Oh wait...nevermind. We got those back! :)

As for painkillers....WHAT?!?! I use those all the time. Bandages to get my max up and then painkillers to get my HP up. Why don't you use painkillers?

- fov slider

They apparently removed it for performance reasons...of course most options affect performance, and yet the choice for everything else remains.

- corpses

Specific types of loot dropped by specific types of zombies was great, and chopping up corpses for bones had a witcheresque thrill to it.

- books

I'm a massive fan of RNG, so locking stuff behind books, rather than the perk system, gave the game a replay-ability, which I feel it doesn't have right now.

- some LBD

This topic has been beaten to death so no need to elaborate.

- wellness

The old wellness system encouraged me to make the most elaborate food that I could. Now I don't care if I eat boiled eggs and canned food for the entire game. I have zero motivation to farm. I also felt that penalties to wellness was enough of an incentive to avoid dying. I really don't like the way that stamina is linked to food right now. I love survival games, but the food-stamina situation in A17 is quite a tedious mechanic compared to how most other survival games handle it.

Especially when you had whole fields of corpses lying in front of you. There you have seen that you have achieved something.

Now it is so that you see only 3 or 4 yellow bags if you are fast enough and maybe a few corpses of dogs. Otherwise it is as if the zombies had never been existed.

never needed to. they're kinda poo. I thought maybe their buff got nerfed or something. Now bandages just do what I need.

Although I do have health regeneration, I've found that getting hit / bandage / eat some food does what I need

regular bandages don't move the red up and painkillers give you a ton of red back. I'm always glad when I find painkillers. I guess it's kind of sad how much I use painkillers....

In addition, pain killers are the only heal item that immediately increases the HP again. First aid bandages and first aid kits only heal over time.

Based off her OP I think she meant medicated bandages in her reply to you.

I miss the all powerful auger. When building if you messed up a line of reinforced concrete it was 5 minutes and 100 gas, now not so much.

I miss beer's effects

I miss knowing I could always eat Yucca if in a bind, and make yucca juice with no tools. Without Yucca-riah potentially

I miss the crossbow and exploding bolts, still there just not as good, and producing mass exploding bolts without bones/glue/duct tape is tough

I miss the excitement of finding the minibike book. That and auger were so important that I usually cheered...even alone.

I miss running just as fast backwards

That being said all of the above have gotten me to use new things like pickaxes, compound bows, and I'm losing weight by not drinking so much beer. I also didn't say that the things I missed were the right way originally, just that I miss them. You should run slower backwards IMO, but I miss it. A post hole auger shouldn't eat through raw iron like butter.

Now you only melee cops? I remember back in A16 i maxed out my knife handling and run around during BM with a machete, killing everything in plain sight. I rarely used guns (as they were less ideal for killing imho or perhaps i never pimped up my skills for them).

I miss beer and all the juice effects, explosions from various weapons and regular POIs (most of them are dungeon POIs and quest POIs, not as much regular ones as i would like). To some extent i also miss gathering pieces of guns so i could make one myself...

I miss earning tons of points during the day and spending them at night. Now it's like one point if you're lucky.

It all equals out to be the same, but there's just something about distributing those points among so many options that I loved.

Never used a regular bandage since the beginning of the game. It's pretty much redundant. I use medical bandages.

I see.

I save the point and use regular bandages and painkillers(no perk necessary) which instantly zoom your health up by quite a bit. But different strokes. :)

Yeah, but then you get the thirst, so you have to carry around extra water for that, y'know? I mean, I'm about to head out into another POI day 98 horde night defense and you can bet your arse that i'm taking painkillers with me ('cos ROland said they're useful) ... but we shall see :) Hopefully I won't bloody need them!

Good luck with 98. :)

No extra stack of water required. I usually have one stack of 15 water and have plenty to counteract the thirst so I don't see any extra space used for water. I do carry bandages and pills which could be a single slot for medicated bandages--true. The instant pump to health has been known to elicit an audible real world "whew" from myself and any of my kids who might be watching me. (They stress out more than I do when the hp is low).

But I also tend to carry medicated bandages and first aid kits more often once I have them. I just couldn't believe you felt they were useless.

Lbd & RNG.

But I also miss molds!

I think TFP should scrap the one time use schematic and replace them with molds.

It just makes more sense. Molds are one time use!
