A New Chapter for The Fun Pimps and 7 Days to Die

If you look at the past multiple years of releases, TFP have consistently delivered on June or December, with one exception in July. Allegedly, this merger will not affect 3.0's development. I say allegedly for legal protection and all that haha. Just going by what I've seen and heard. If it were business as usual, my cards would objectively be in Dec, but given this merger and tons of red tape that's been thrown down, I doubt we'll be getting any dev streams or any huge announcements prior to release. Maybe one more Twitter teaser and that's about it. I predict this will be a somewhat 'silent' release. Could be wrong!

Also, not directing this to you specifically, but I'm seeing many people whining that "it's been weeks, we're supposed to get faster release cycles". Calm your farm and have some patience. These sorts of things don't happen overnight, and faster release cycles don't translate into "one big release per week".

with the "due time" comment, I was only talking about when "we" will be informed about what's coming and roughly when...not specifically when 3.0 is going to release. since it has been said they are testing and checking 3.0 right now, sometime in June does sound reasonable...especially since "they've" said that they intend for 4.0 Bandits to also be released this year.

I do agree with you that 6 weeks is not long enough for BI to beef up the support to the degree that we "see" the update release speed has increased.

Not to mention that like I said really, there's a lot of red tape that will last until at least the final quarter of this year probably, so I wouldn't expect to hear much from them until after that time. (And even then, with BI hiring a senior community manager for TFP, who knows what the future will hold.)

respectfully, I don't know what red tape, that will hold them back, you are talking about...is. Do you mean the time it takes to physically integrate their people with TFP? or something else?

I have been saying for a long time that TFP should have hired a CM...and was very glad to see it was only days after they bought the company that BI posted a listing for one, but, a community manager can only do sooo much. They can lighten the mood, make people feel heard, a really good one can help craft messaging from the devs that makes delays more palatable, but, I doubt even a "magic" personality could repair the damage IF these new guys didn't have anything to say until December. lol
besides...someone will have to say something soonish...3.0 sandbox should drop in June. be sad if it was treated as a non event.

By red tape, I'm talking about that TFP are most certainly on a leash and there's not much they can say about anything at all, about the acquisition or otherwise. We haven't seen Faatal in weeks. It's possible he's busy doing his own thing, but given the circumstances, it wouldn't surprise me if communication on his end to us has been put on hold (temporarily or indefinitely).

Regarding 3.0, if it is truly mostly just new sandbox features, that wouldn't make for very engaging content. It would just be someone sitting in a menu going "this is what this does, this is what these do", so forth. It's possible we'll get new content, such as new POI's, new art props, maybe the chicken coop if we're blessed, but again, we truly don't know, and due to the aforementioned red tape, and I say this purely out of (not baseless) speculation, I wouldn't personally expect anything less than somewhat of a shadow release. 4.0 should be different.

thank you for clarifying. I think I understand your POV on this.

I do think that putting out some teaser content for 3.0 that highlights some of the game play possible (and encourages experimentation) would be a great way to fire up the community. The creator program has lots of people who have proven their loyalty and discretion that could help them IF they didn't want to do it internally...or needed help putting out compelling content.

The way I see it, there is major burnout in the community right now. Some (content creators) will need a colossal shake-up in order to be attracted into returning, others are only interesting in overhaul mods from here on out, some are frustrated with how the game has developed over the course of multiple years, some are concerned about the direction regarding BI and are holding with baited breath until BI can prove themselves to be a positive injection that 7D2D needed (assuming this happens), while others have quit altogether. Even places like the subreddit that used to be an endless hate train are remarkably silent. The active online community at large right now is quite apathetic, even more-so than in-between releases. Whether said content creators and average users are 'correct' in their feelings of the game 'going downhill' are right or not is a whole other debate, but nonetheless something has shifted. As much as I am excited for 3.0, it's looking like the introduction of bandits (coming in 4.0... maybe... we'll see...) will be the necessary boost to the game's health, be it positive or negative, and not some (although welcome) menu toggles. We know precious little about 3.0, but equally we may know almost everything there is to know, and as such I wouldn't fault for anyone just calling it 2.7 anyway, since it'll effectively still be 2.0 but with some extra toys to play with.

As for the 90% of the community we'll never hear from, I consider them a wild card. Who knows what they think. It's likely they're okay with the 'state of the game' considering we don't hear them complaining and once again it's just a loud local minority parroting each other who should have moved on from the game a long time ago. My concern if I were TFP are that almost universally, the larger semi-former 7D2D creators are kind of feeling "meh" toward the game right now and, while there's a lot of creators out there, many have been the backbone of the collective community for many years and aren't so easily replaced. But maybe anyone who doesn't like the game are just A16 troglodytes, I say as a devil's advocate.

The game will be fine. The active online community, maybe not as much, but so long as the charts keep on going up, TFP may not have a reason to really care all that much, even if 90% of creators who previously made it an integral part of their brand quietly walk away. It's hard to navigate and judge considering by logic the only people you'll hear online for anything are the whiners.

Since we're deep into a "well acthually" ... Faatal wasn't seen, or at least proven to be seen. His account page claims he was online back then, no-one has been shown to have seen him.

If it's says: "Last seen: Today at 11:14 AM" well that's how I'm going to have it in my post.

I was casually commenting back saying "you know what I mean" and you decided to act like a prick about it. Live with it.
You didn't write "you know what I mean", you wrote: "Details, details.".

Do you believe he became invisible at 11:15, or that the "Last seen" is a terrible UI-colloquial, meaning "online".
Your issue was with a phrase of "We haven't seen" .. I don't usually use that "We" to refer to website logs, but in either case we'd have to ask the originator whether the 'we' contains the SW ... ;)

my head has been in the sand with this game for a long while (although I still play frequently) but this news is concerning more than it is comforting. I am hopeful that this new merging will evolve 7 days to die and not the oppossite.. this is fekin' massive.

The merger is happening in parallel with shipping out V3.0. So far nothing has blocked or delayed us in that regard.

As far as content goes, the Sandbox Options aren't "just options". They are whole gameplay experiences.
You can tailor your game in so many different ways now that it feels like a whole new game.

There are more features coming to V3.0, but you'll have to be patient for any posts here and/or on socials.
News will happen when all of us feel it is ready.

Faatal and the rest of us are all busy smashing bugs and polishing the shiny bits.

Please, one question:
Will there be different named "presets" available that we can easily pick from instead of trying every single option by itself?

I'm thinking something like:
  • "True Survival settings"
  • "Casual Player settings"
  • "Worse than Nightmare setting"
  • "Builder Delight settings"
and so on...
