V2.5+ Survival Revival Dev Diary

That means no chicken coop in 2.6. I did not say never.
Well, that means I didn't understand correctly.

Although I don’t understand the description of some skills normally. The same Junk Miner, in theory, should work with an axe, but for some reason, when collecting plastic from tires, with or without it, I get 8-12 units. How does this skill work?

The cookie reaction is meant to be positive. It gives positive reputation when awarded. None of the reactions are meant to be used sarcastically though that won’t stop folks from doing so. None of them give negative reputation. The ones that are obviously positive give positive rep and the rest are neutral as far as rep is concerned.

From the context of posts I’ve seen with a cookie it always seemed like a sympathy prize.

Really? Did that change with the new forum? I never see those numbers anymore, but I didn't remember it having any impact in the old forum. It was treated like a thumbs down before, IIRC.

As currently configured, reputation increases by 1 for every Like, Thanks, Love, Haha, or Prime Bless You you get. All other reactions have no quantifiable effect. Some people take it as a personal affront that they would ever be ‘downvoted,’ so we made it so that never happens. Reactions can only be positive or neutral, numerically. The old forum was configured this way, too. You can see a user’s reaction score when you click or hover on their name.

Alternative theory: We saw that all the other websites you go to want you to accept cookies. We’re just trying to help offset the surplus by allowing you to give them back!

So, if we feel it is ready today or tomorrow, we should just sit on it for two months? No thanks.

I would not play an experimental if I was worried about bugs.

Sure. 2+2=4 and 2.6 localization was updated yesterday, which I think they were waiting on.
Tell me, is the release of experimental 2.6 just around the corner?:неуверен:

Yesterday I added an additional 24 game hour delay to sleepers being killed by the timeout, so that should be enough to take care of it and not break anything. That will probably not be in 2.6.
This is one example of exactly what i was talking about, instead of rushing 2.6 out under pressure, release it with all the nasty bugs fixed. Take couple months and post a roadmap to give time for all this stuff to be added.

Are you in the testing phase for 2.6 or is anything being finalized?
They are finishing adding everything to it that needs to be in it and checking for bugs. Experimental will be soon.

Wonder why they decided on such a long wait for the chicken coops...
Priorities. They have other things they decided were more important to work on right now.

It is coming.

@HammerDano
based on everything you have been following with the roadmaps over the last couple years...
what is your opinion about 3.0 such as things that you believe will be added and not added?
thanks
The only thing I expect with 3.0 is Bandits.
When things like the Chicken coop are going to be added...don't even want to guess. There's people still waiting since 1.0 for some of the animal models to be updated...I have no idea how they set priority, or why they let things fall thru the cracks, I am not a fan of their "management style".

I am still waiting for the updated road map to tell us that stuff. I'm sure we will see it soon(tm).

I don't think there's much left from the 2.0 ■■■■ storm dev stream that they have not addressed. It's the lack of communication since 2.5 that has me scratching my head. they were headed in the right direction, but, one little ■■■■ up and they are back to radio silence, instead of making a couple posts. Telling people that they know things are broken, and that they are working their asses off to fix it...they went silent. Worse, they ignored all comments about it, people are super ■■■■ed that they know TFP read the comments, and just decided to disrespect their customers by no longer answering them.

That's just sad.

ps I know it feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeels like a much longer time, but, it's only been a little over 1.5 years since launch. lol

I'm all for TFP speeding up the development process and communicating more, and i disagree with Grandpa minion that they should take their time and fix all the bugs, that's for AAA with 1000 employees making a full game or DLC and shareholders who are being put first and major hype that has to be built, not for minor updates to an indie game that is audience funded and player driven. If someone had asked the players a year prior to 2.0 if we liked the concepts for the plague spitter and frostclaw or the bloody scout badges they could have saved a lot of time and effort just not making them because we would have laughed at them. (and tbf, they released these ideas like 4-5 months prior and we did laugh at them but at the time TFP weren't listening to us evidently and then 2.0 happened)

All that said.

It has been... LESS THAN... a month since the last update. V2.5 b32 Hotfix...is a minor update...but it features communication from the devs about what they've spent that previous week doing.

I appreciate more communication too but ultimately it's been 24 days and they probably just have nothing to report lmao. I mean are you surprised to learn that the game that has taken 12 years to get to this point... doesn't have a huge amount of progress in a month? I mean you would certainly hope for some very fast development speeds given the genuinely very small scope of this game (nb4 but muh voxels) and the apparent 100? people working on it but hopes aren't very valuable.

Sidenote: if you take away the voxel aspect of this game, the scope is honestly really small compared to a lot of survival games made by smaller teams with less money, in less time and to a higher quality tbh. Absolute hindrance of a mechanic IMO that we're kinda just stuck with even though "fully destructable voxel world" stopped being an interesting selling point in like 2015. Especially in 7dtd where there's genuinely nothing to discover under that voxel world. What? 5 ores and occassionally you'll smash into the side of a POI you can always access from the surface? Wowee stop I can't handle all that content. 60 Blocks of ■■■■all beneath our feet eating all the performance and slowing development time but what are you gonna do? remove it 13 years in? Pls no

When somebody writes: "Bring back buckets.....make it a recipe when you get the anvil.....hammered bucket,,,,at least let you have some water instead of constantly dying from dehydration", it sounds like someone who doesn't know. If you did know then why write that in the first place?
The main purpose of your message was to complain, plain and simple. You could at least post in the Pimp Dreams section and maybe offer a suggestion or something.
Seems like maybe you're a fan of people like Jawoodle, Izprebuilt and More2me4life... Or like I call them, the round table of the complainers.
Wow Ace???......its what I do ...for the last, what 12 years ... I like some of the earlier ways of doing things....I'm sorry I didn't realize and follow your guidelines in the forums....I have been playing other games too...didn't know you were a moderator.......next time I can type it while holding a puppy??

regards
Ouch

Hey thanks! Yeah, been playing ever since Alpha 10.1 and still love this game.
And that's not showing hours when playing overall mods and the old console version... Bought an Xbox One X some years ago so I could play with my brother, who didn't have a good PC. I later put together a PC for my brother when I upgraded my PC and he never looked back as the PC version was so much better than the old Telltale version.
10.1.....ive been playing since A4....but whatever....

This here is why you of all people shouldn’t be asking for dates. They gave you dates and you haven’t stopped railing about those missed dates for going on two years now. You bring up the “unreasonably optimistic dates” again and again and again.

So…..no dates. Faatal has already stated that they look at task milestones more than dates as their goals. Plus, you can’t handle the dates. Yes, you’re complaining about “soon” these days but it is a lot milder than the complaining you’ve done over missed dates and all the conspiracy theories and assumptions of malfeasances you’ve concocted because of the dates.

Do yourself a favor and stop asking for dates. If they give them to you, it won’t end well.
Learned that a long time ago......only date you get is SOON....accept it and move on!! Like when are Bandits coming...........Soon!!

See and I always thought of it as grabbing a cookie and sit back to watch the internet idiots fight.

Are you in the testing phase for 2.6 or is anything being finalized?
We have been in the testing phase since last week and that is how it is finalized by seeing if it all works. We found issues and they are being fixed. 3 more fixes went in today and another build was made, so they are back to testing. Most of the team and I are working on 3.0, so personally I have limited info on when and what bugs testers are finding in 2.6. Production only pushes those bugs my way if they are in areas I work in or there is some programming roadblock, else it goes directly to the relevant developer.

If they are waiting until all bugs are fixed to post a new update, you will be waiting for years.

It is a lot better to update when you consider it sufficiently impactful, then hotfix and work on the next stuff.

Its about transparency for the community more than about what is or what isn't added or fixed,
just like what @HammerDano and @IzPrebuilt just stated.
also, after a decade everyone knows how the tfp operate and any veteran who has been around understands how experimental (players are the testers) to stable builds work.
so, why not just be direct about it and say to the community in a roadmap ABC is happening on this date vs leaving everyone playing the guessing game?
