PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

But will they be able to spot you from a distance. Like say you got one in a guard tower. Will you need to be close or no
I'd assume it'll just be the normal sleeper volumes, set to "wander" mode. Those wander around their area instead of sleeping and will "activate" against you when you are within the volume (or perhaps close to it) just like sleepers do, but without having to wake up. Unless they add some sort of trigger, you'd still have to be within the normal range of them for them to see you.

I guess it's just too hard to answer how many more 2.x's?
The subset of players who are waiting until the final 2.x to play and wanting to call whatever that is 2.0 is very small--possibly a subset of one. It doesn't matter to everyone else who is playing each update as they come what the last one will be because they are remaining fully updated and playing the game and enjoying the process of adapting to each change.

Now if they were developing each 2.x behind closed doors and only giving out screenshots and press release updates about what each new update was adding all while the entire player base was still stuck at the actual and original 2.0 version, THEN the subset of people desiring to know when the final update would be and what version number it would be would skyrocket because the desire to play the new content would be crazy.

But right now it is only self-inflicted anticipation by, again, a very very small subset.

My most recent playthrough had me thinking a lot about this. Infection isn't really much of a threat even in the early game.

I've been thinking about modding honey, herbal and antibiotics to treat a much lower percentage of infection -- maybe half of what they provide in vanilla. Also, there used to be a mod that added numerous debilitating effects to infection that got worse in stages. It made infection a real threat and motivated the player to take it seriously.

Infection in vanilla is just such a milquetoast mechanic when it should be the most serious condition in the game.
Yes, exactly, infections are completely irrelevant. Compare it to a broken leg—that mechanism really punishes you for not being careful.

I would like to at least play 2.0 complete before the end of this year...apparently you think that is asking for too much. That is ridiculous imo. Are the plague spitter and frost claw being replaced in 2.5? or am I waiting for 2.6? or a 2.7? I know YOU don't agree, but, I think they should be better at communicating that out considering how far behind they are.

I suppose I mean im playing rn and zombies in a warehouse were able to detect me when I entered and not in face view. But im just worred that its not going to feel... alive?

Like sleeping zombies make sense but the bandits just standing there doing nothing would look silly unless they got animations

Lots of people make accurate estimates of their abilities, and IF they cannot meet them...they explain why...at least to some degree.
I don't waste a lot of time demanding the changes to the game THAT ONLY MATTER TO ME...I keep hounding them for communication about what is taking soo long? better communication...like the snippets of post explaining their actions over the years, FROM OTHER SITES, we have seen here in the last week or so, should be regular here. But...you...like many others, don't seem to be able to grasp that.

I don't really think that should fall on the devs who are making the game...the brothers need to take the heat. imo

I grasp plenty. I just don't agree with you.

That's a fact of human nature: two reasonable people given the exact same information can reasonably reach opposing conclusions.

It's a matter of your skills and abilities. You can use MS Excel if you're proficient in VB. At least for this kind of volume, it's more than enough.
It's a skill? It's like playing a musical instrument or being able to paint a portrait? And what about abilities? How abled do I need to be? Extraordinarily abled, or just not disabled? My gut tells me it's probably the latter.
You know what else is a skill? Communication.

Forget it. I'll stick with asking a data center full of GPUs for help. As of late it has proven to be a lot more skillful at communication than most people.

At this point I hope they never answer the question so we can see haw many more posts you will make on it 🐴
Sorry, but that is a dumb take. imo
I really don't believe that you want that...I think you'd prefer I stopped pointing out stuff you prefer to ignore.
That would happen IF they started actually answering....communicating. IF they started POSTING HERE instead of anywhere BUT HERE. and IF they do post other places...it should also be posted HERE. How is this complicated?

The road map came with dates...blame them. IDC if you don't care...I was sold a game with a reasonable update schedule...that has not been met. I want to be kept better informed on when they are going to meet their word. How is THAT a problem for YOU?

It is the nature of development. While they are working on many aspects of the various changes proposed, each one will be ready when they get it to the point of release. They don't want to list all the changes coming for 2.5, 2.6, 2.X as they like to be flexible. If a change planned for 2.5 is not ready yet, but everything else for that change is, then they would probably go ahead and release 2.5 as is and push the one item to 2.6.

Even if they communicate out a tentative schedule of changes, people will take it as gospel and instantly complain about it missing when they were to release the latest version.

And there is always the possibility that something that sounded great during discussion turns out a dud when they make the implementation. At that point, they will go back to the drawing board and revisit / revamp the change. I do that all the time I come up with what I think is a great idea for 7 Days to Die and my playthroughs, only to find out that it didn't work as expected or was not as fun as I originally thought (and with it being a personal mod of mine, I am the only customer that matters and those things still happen).

I think the issue here is NOT you asking for info, the issue is that most people here are developers themselves, or at least modders (from what I understand) and they think it's unreasonable to ask something like that.

Meaning that you expect TFP to report to you on their detailed schedule for bug-fixing and feature-adding between main versions, where my understanding is that they themselves know when/if they'll be able to add/fix stuff only at the last moment, depending on how their work is going (testing, developing, etc...).

That's why, depending on personal sensibility, some react annoyed to your repeated posts, some react amused (like myself), and others outright tell you to shut up.

Personally I think you've the right to ask, but that doesn't automatically mean that your ask is making sense.

First, thanks for a thoughtful reply. I disagree that it is all that hard for them to announce a tentative 2.5 list (for example), and amend it, by making another post, to say...these parts are done...this one needs more time and will hopefully be in 2.6. Will someone be disappointed...probably, but, that is not an excuse to not even try. imo.
I really am trying to be reasonable. But, this resistance to being regularly informed is baffling to me. It really is as simple as I said it. State what you intend...amend it as necessary. I am not asking them to crack any whips...work over time to finish the game...they are not going to work any faster than they are right now.

The only time I "over reacted" to any dev post was when faatal admitted TFP had not applied for dedicated console servers...let us stew and ■■■■■ about which platforms "fault" it was, because They thought they were a week away...for months.

I don't place the scheduling problem or the communication on faatal or Swantz9000 or any of the others...that is all on the Brothers. imo

You're still going on about this? Jeez. Get a hobby. I mean a different hobby.

when I finally get to play the complete game...any guesses how many years that will be?
Probably a really long time if you are waiting until TFP stops releasing content or making changes. TFP have always floated the possibility of doing DLC and have stated that some features may not release until after gold. This is also pretty typical of games these days. Plenty of games continue to receive support and new, non-paid content after their launch. For example, both No Man Sky and Grounded received a bunch of additional free content after launch including a bunch of QOL in the case of Grounded. So, if you are waiting until full content lock it could be 5 or more years if the game continues to sell well or if TFP maintain it as a passion project.

Two types. Both defined in xml. Raw meat has "Smell" emitted when you carry 5 or more with increased range the more you carry. Eating raw meat or other food like a sham sandwich has "SmellUse" that emits out to a distance over time and then shrinks back down. Picking up Raw meat does have a 20s grace period before the smell starts.

Also, AI in range does not instantly detect smell, but has a random chance every few seconds to catch a whiff.
That sounds fantastic! Thanks for the response.
