Improvements and Balance Adjustments to Existing Systems and Features
It is pretty clear that 2.0 was complete. It delivered on all promised features-- nothing missing. That some people didn't like the new features doesn't change the fact that it checked every box that was planned. Not everyone was displeased with the 2.0 features. I wasn't pleased with the badges but I very much agreed with and enjoyed the lootstage caps and biome progression. Others hated that and ultimately TFP decided that the feedback in opposition to lootstage caps and biome progression was something they also wanted to change and so they adjusted and enhanced the feature to make it less of a linear progression. That doesn't mean that they delivered an incomplete feature. It was done.
Looking at the additional features that have come and still are coming to 2.x versions, it is also clear that these versions go beyond what 2.0 was envisioned and planned to be and what was delivered. The adjustments that we've seen to the biome hazards, biome progression, and that we soon will see with storms are enhancements added thanks to feedback and iterative development. 2.0 was not missing the storm feature just because in a future 2.x update there will be additions and enhancements to the storm gameplay.
You are not the type of person, apparently, that enjoys trying out every iteration. You just want to play the final version of a feature. That's fine but is probably going to be impossible as additional changes and enhancements to existing features will be coming in 3.0 and 4.0.
Trader quests were introduced in A17 but 4.0 lists a trader overhaul as well as a new quest type as features. By your logic, then, even A17 is still not complete and if you had been around in A17 you would be wondering when they would finally finish A17.0 so you could start playing...
The truth is that if these new versions were considered by the developers, themselves, to be 2.0 then they would all be labeled as 2.0 with higher build numbers. There have been experimentals that receive additional updates in the past and those updates don't progress to the next .x number. They remain at the current version number but with a new build number.
We all know why you would prefer to label 2.4 and 2.5 and 2.6 all as simply 2.0. With you it is always about when delivery was promised and when delivery was made and you are simply building a narrative that 2.0 was promised in Q4 2024 but wasn't delivered complete until Q4 2025 or maybe even Q1 2026-- over a year late. That sounds a lot better for your agenda than that part of 2.0 was delivered in Q4 2024 and the rest in Q2 2025.
