PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

@DED-EFIM has very strict rules on the server. It prohibits helping newbies. So even equipment cannot be transferred to another player.
To each their own. I personally don't understand the desire to force people to play a certain way. It's one thing to not allow cheating or whatever, but if it's a normal way to play (i.e. co-op), not allowing it doesn't make sense to me. But it doesn't matter. People will either be okay with a server's rules and play on it or they won't. It doesn't matter to me what other people do with the game since it doesn't impact me at all.

would it be too much to ask that it be given the right calibre? lol
It's not a hill I wish to die on, but, why is it not a .44 like the old cowboy guns? idk
I learned that some lever actions can be in a long rifle round like 30.30 But agreed it should be 44 but if it was then it would/should be classed as a carbine

1000% yes! We need more guns that use the .44 ammo type. I would be happy to just mod myself (and likely will for my next playthrough) but I would be happy to see this change in vanilla.
I can think of a few guns that could be 44
Danagers
Magnums
Deagle
Mares leg lever action
Lever action Rifle/carbine
Simi auto 44 Rifle/carbine

I once owned a lever action .30-30. I would have said that was more modern than a .44 lever action, but a little googling discovers there are still .44 lever action rifles being made that are even rigged for .44 magnum ammo.

On the gamey side of things, I'm okay with there only being a few ammo types as that has an effect on inventory space, but the lever action rifle being a .44 wouldn't add any ammo types.

Weird idea, what if a weapon mod let you change the weapon's ammo type? Yeh, it defies reality, but would it be an acceptable game thing?

Not that weird at all. it would just be a caliber change. that's something that can be done. But the way the mod system works, it would only increase damage, and never decrease it. So in this particular case i don't know if it makes sense to say a 44 does more damage than the 7.62.

With the latest 7 Days to Die activities in the Steam Database (SteamDB) of the last 2 days, I was sure that we would get a new 2.3 Experimental build today.

I guess I was wrong. 😥 @faatal where are you?

I mean, it's not like bandits were due to be released several years ago or anything..
Can you give me some more background about this? I've seen this bandied about on reddit frequently as of late, but no one's ever really offered anything to back that up (it seems like they're mostly just repeating something they 'heard' from someone else). Did they actually have bandits planned as firmly as they now have them planned for 3.0?

I still own one, a model 1894 chambered for .30-30 that I inherited. Lever guns aren't really my thing, but .357 magnum lever guns are still *very* popular today and yeah, .44 mag rifles are still being made.

Not weird at all. Many, many guns can very easily be rechambered for different ammo types. Sometimes with just a simple barrel swap. Guns with split upper/lower receivers (such as AR15's) even allow drop-in swaps between different calibers.

lever action is a mid tier weapon, so I am not advocating that it get a damage buff, .44 was a common round for pistols and rifles...good for medium size game. If they changed it...great...if they don't...not the end of the world. Just makes sense...and gives the rifles a .44 variant. A Tommy Gun for Automatics wouldn't be the worst idea either. But not worth any delays that for sure.

Doesn't the ammo influence damage? I mean if I remember correctly the ammo has damage and block damage in their descriptions.

I don't think that @faatal is working on bandits right now... That's for 3.0 anyways. But he's definitely working on all the changes specified in the 2.0 Town Hall stream, plus the rest of the stuff that will be in 2.x (whichever version it goes to... 2.3, 2.4+++).
That's his priority and he already mentioned that the work on bandits will resume wants all the V2.x stuff is finished.

I agree that he must be very busy... But then again, he's always very busy! 😁
Exactly. He's not working on bandits because he's working on all the 2.4 & beyond patches/updates.
Yes he's a busy fellow indeed.

Joel previewed them back in Alpha 15 on his YouTube channel.

Bandits have been listed as a feature in several dev diaries going back several alphas. I can’t remember the first alpha that listed them though. However, none of that really matters. Most of people complaining about their absence haven’t thought much further than: “it would be cool if there were bandits.” And the reality is many won’t be happy when they are added because all they have been doing is wishcasting, i.e., assuming what they want to happen is what will actually happen. It’s similar to people who complain about games spending too much time in early access. This complaint only makes sense if the player assumes that the things they don’t like about early access will be fixed at full release. But why would anyone make this assumption? It could easily go the other direction. For some players, the full release could be worse than the early access version. There are ample examples of that here during the game’s development.

Personally, I’m very skeptical about the addition of bandits to 7dtd. I can foresee a lot of ways it could go wrong or simply change the game loop in a way that I don’t care for. When will you first encounter bandits? Will you have sufficiently strong ranged weapons to deal with them? How often will you encounter them? Will you end up getting swamped by screamers during or after gun battles with them? How many changes will have to made to existing game systems to accommodate the addition of an entirely new class of enemies? What will be the performance cost of adding bandits? Will the value added be worth the cost? Et cetera, et cetera.
