PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

having particles flying around is quite a distraction and annoyance.. outside elements that don't impair your visual is fine, but the particles are too dense.

i think The a small limited particles are there to remind you that your in a hustle temperature, but doesn't need to be so thick to just flaunt it in your face..
the game should be playable, not give you epilepsy......

If they were an "all the time" effect in the burnt forest I would agree. Instead they are part of a "you are in a storm, find shelter or die effect", so it seems to me they're rather appropriate.

ofc that all depends upon what the in game experience actually is. If storms are constant and we can reach a point where they aren't deadly to us then I can see myself coming around to your point of view rather quickly. I'd also be rather disappointed. I'm hoping storms remain bad news forever, and if they aren't then I can see modding them to make them so.

thats part of the stuff i have concerns about on the pvp side, players already attempt to gfx pp enable 0 as it is just to get rid of fog. I could only imagaine how particles all over the place well be a huge distraction during a pvp battle, also has anyone even checked if these particles are spamming unnecssary data to other connected clients?

Not-a-PVP-game. So all good.

All I hope is that these effects are easy to mod.  Reduce speed or remove altogether.  If not, I'll probably just disable storms just to avoid the mess.  I would be fine with it at a lower speed.

What is next ..to cancel all the work devs did on Storm is Brewing for your PVP needs.

Repeating all your stuff in different ways was enough, buddy.

For someone that has been in a "ember storm" in real life, that looks very realistic.  and a "heavy" storm (even just on the heavier side) is much worse that what the videos show.

Personally I like it.  And cant wait.

I agree. There's been complaints it's too chaotic. It's not like a rainstorm with the drops all falling the same direction. It is chaotic winds.

I just hope that if you go inside a house/shelter etc. that it's gone. It will be really annoying if it's like the current rain inside buildings.

Particles run on a client derived from only dozens of bytes of weather sim data broadcast at a low rate to clients. 2.0 actually sends a little less data than 1.0. A lot of weather data handling was improved for 2.0.

Once particle collider pool counts are tweaked, hopefully no weather particles will leak through walls.

I think the problem is that we've seen the storm teaser in the burnt biome without the context of what it looks like now without the storm. Maybe we forgot that it's a short-lived event, I guess similar to the biome storms in No Man's Sky.

I like it the way it's been shown. In fact I think it should feel a bit more dangerous, with some burning trees here and there, as well as some arcs of fire on the ground, like in the video zztong shared.

@SylenThunder faatal had mentioned "The embers are world space. That effect has 9 particle systems in it and only 1 (sparks) is local space"..... when you test can you check to see what would happen with the (local sparks) when 5 pve players are standing together on a bloodmoon base doing hoard night together, curious how those individual local sparks would effect the other players in the space, thanks.

I might be wrong, but I don't think the plan is to have storms during a horde night. @faatalcan correct me on that.

It could make for unforgettable horde nights, but also pretty much guarantee your death if you didn't plan for it or horde night went awry.
