PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

having particles flying around is quite a distraction and annoyance.. outside elements that don't impair your visual is fine, but the particles are too dense.

i think The a small limited particles are there to remind you that your in a hustle temperature, but doesn't need to be so thick to just flaunt it in your face..
the game should be playable, not give you epilepsy......
I don't think they are too bad have effects around you so long as they aren't Obnoxious or too in your face and flashy. Having embers come down in the burnt forest would be great. And during the storm they can get all crazy

@faatal How was this week going for you guys? Lots of bug smashing and clean up?
Yes, and finishing features. Frostclaw is done other than tweaking. Storm warning time and damage is being debated. I am almost done fixing an animal jump bug. Indoor/outdoor check still needs a rework.

I might be wrong, but I don't think the plan is to have storms during a horde night. @faatalcan correct me on that.

It could make for unforgettable horde nights, but also pretty much guarantee your death if you didn't plan for it or horde night went awry.
Bloodmoon's have their own weather, which is the highest priority and during BM any pending storms are deferred until many hours after.

Anything cool you can tell us they added. Like how's the new hud and general peek system.

That is going to be my favorite part
The UI is the same other than some minor changes.

I just wonder if lightning can strike you down and kill you?
No, it is in the clouds as before. Does not touch the ground.

Ima kinda glad it's the same tbh it basic and simple

Will storms do dmg against buildings?  We're just going always carry around building blocks and just shack up instantly until the storm passes, I am not sure this is the gameplay loop people want to be doing all of the time.

@faatal Will 2.0 include any optimizations? Can we expect better performance than 1.0, even with the new weather and effects?
faatal has said there are optimizations, but that optimizations are mostly on specific things.  For example, the most recent thing he mentioned was that the data being sent back and forth related to storms is reduced.  That's good for network stuff, but isn't going to matter much to you if you play solo.  And even in multiplayer, it might not really be noticeable.  There aren't likely to be many big (significant) optimizations in the future as most of those have been done already.  Most upcoming optimizations are likely to have very small impact of the game (like 1-2 FPS), which faatal commented on a few months or so ago.

Some for specific features.
Examples: Event firing has less overhead. Chunk mesh generation is multi threaded. Many tree models have been redone for less draw calls.

No damage to blocks. I always carry building blocks, but easier to just run inside a POI and less boring as you can loot it while waiting.

In a storm I wouldn't think a gyro would be a good idea..... crazy winds and such. But 4x4 I could see maybe. Then again as @faatal said, get in a building. Only going to suck if you're deep in the woods with no poi around, but if you have a storm warning.... plan better next time.
