PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

Yes. That was something I pushed for, as it makes sense that you should experience the biome to learn how to survive there. It uses the challenge system, so kit is your reward per biome. You can't make them for others for them to simply bypass it. That is why there is an option to disable as some groups of players may not like that play style.

That's pretty cool! I especially like how it's a separate item slot, so each biome doesn't just override clothing/armor with something like a five piece hazmat suit.

We usually end up with one of two types of players who rush the end game and spoil progression for everyone else: ones who go straight to the wasteland and loot cars for high tier weapons or those who just dump all resources into a single crafting skill so they're handing out 4x4s on day ten. It sounds like this new system will slow the first type down a lot, and the second by a bit too since they can't get the best magazines so fast.

Is it required that you get kits 1 through 4 in order? I can see people rushing wasteland, getting kit 4, and being set all game.

Magazines aren't limited by biome or game stage, so you can get them just as easily in any biome.  The only real difference being that the forest on a RWG map only has smaller towns, so there aren't as many mailboxes around and there is a lower chance of finding Crack-A-Book stores.  But even just going to the desert would give you large enough towns to easily find magazines and you could do so well enough in the forest if you hit multiple forest towns.  So this change will have little impact on people rushing magazines.

As SylenThunder said, you have to do them in order.  It also sounds like the item you are getting for protection against the hazards is upgraded for each biome rather than having to swap it whenever you change biomes, so that would explain needing to do them in order.

For one, AI changes I am currently working on may lead to people changing up their base designs, but hard to tell until testers start doing blood moons.
Caught a few episodes of Jawoodle eh? ;)

Is there any chance we will get dedicated servers before 2.0?

Yeah, it sounds like 2.0 won't be out until summer now based on what faatal just posted so if they can manage to push out dedi support ahead of that it would be nice.

I hope with 2.0 we get some more stuff like

  • more respawning of zombies and animals in the players area
  • Harsher nights like increase zombie spawns as well as animals
  • weather events like cold fronts, dust storms, super heatwaves, snow in the forest
  • making the forest harder cuz its way too easy. add some more danger like wild life
  • Increase zombie spawns just in general or even a setting for console
  • Mutated and fire zombies in horde nights
  • more stuff too cook like scrambled eggs, Blue berries juice for the cold, etc
  • some buffs or nerfs to some armors, like farmer could uses a buff in terms of rifles, maybe its both rifles and shotguns
  • more wildlife in the forest, like the desert and burnt forest has more life how does that make sense
  • more kinds of trees and life in the forest, as well as the Pine forest just be renamed too.... the forest
  • a few new zombie skins, like new skin tones,

Do you know what it takes to get dedi support going? was wondering how that  differs than the actual updates 2.0.

Would they both be required to be released same time or is it somthing different?

Dedicated servers already work for consoles in testing. Everyone is just waiting on Sony and Microsoft to approve it. Then it will probably require a minor patch to consoles to enable the connection capability.

No, this is driven by them wanting AI handling new types of POI spawn locations.
Edit: I misunderstood what you meant by AI, so ignore the following.

This sounds interesting.  And yet I'm not sure if you are being serious or joking.  Heh.  :)

If you're serious, I am guessing this would use AI to get POI to be placed in at least somewhat logical locations (within the availability of correctly sized POI Markers and correct districts)?  I'd be interested in seeing how much benefit that can actually offer since you do have to follow those restrictions.  I could see a lot more potential benefit if we didn't use tiles, but I would think any benefit would be very limited when using tiles, so I wonder if it's worth the time and effort to create something like that.  I could also see it as a way to better place tiles so we don't have these roads in towns that are a spaghetti mess like we have now, with a ton of dead ends and turns and alleys that make trying to find a way from one end to the other in a large town a hassle.  But even that would be very limited because we don't have very many tiles to choose from in vanilla to allow for a good and realistic placement of them, while still having variety.

Anyhow, it could be interesting and I would love to hear more details, if possible.

My guess is that new possible POI locations are having an effect on how the zombie AI paths. For instance, if the POI can be placed on unleveled terrain, on an island, on a coast, in a cave, on Mars, etc.
