PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

Honestly, it looked like a massive step forward to me, there is more late game challenge. Those different staged zombies look legit nasty to deal with. I like the transmog system. I am glad they announced that they applied for dedicated console servers. yes I understand it is not official until it is...not getting my hopes up until I see confirmation. Just thought I better state all that.
Console dedi was approved by MS and Sony. We are just being conservative, because they can change their mind as each update is submitted. It can happen.

Stream was pretty good to me. Only thing I didn't care for was the Orange and Blue zombies - I hate bullet sponges. That's not a challenge, it's just artificial difficulty. Everything else shown off has me excited though. And did anyone catch the Hoarder, Desert and Marauder outfits in the Wardrobe UI?
I would point out that Lathan was level 1 without perks and using a Q4 pistol. When you actually come across them through normal play, they should die far more easily than for him. But yes, they are going to have a lot more health (bullet sponges).

We need a new HUD. Current one is just.. flat. Boring.
I am very concerned about any changes to it. A HUD tends to be a very personal preference for people. Any changes could look good to some and awful to others. If they only have one in vanilla, it should be a mostly generic HUD as that will at least be acceptable to most people. Once you start making unique HUDs/UI, you start getting into situations where some people absolutely hate it. That's why those are best left to mods, imo. But if they want to have a generic one (either what we have now, or a new one) and also have one or more other versions you can choose from, then that's a good option.

A customizable (no mods needed) HUD would be a great feature down the road. Final Fantasy 14 does it, and that HUD ha a LOT of things you can have visible.

Just offering various bar size placement and options within a small area would be a godsend. I have trouble seeing, and the Hunger/Thirst bars are hard for me to see, so a mod is unfortunately necessary for me.

Customizable would be a good option, yes. Few games do it, but it is a nice option in games that have it.

Yeah, there were a lot of comments during the stream from people confused and wondering where the new HUD and UI was? Who are these people who knew there was a dev stream but have apparently never looked at the road map to know that the HUD and UI are in the next round of updates?

True fans have the road map memorized and/or tattoed on their bodies (except for the dates. we don't see the dates)

I'd have to say the other disappointment I have is the Badges. When it was initially explained months ago, it sounded like we were putting together a survival kit of some sort, but knowing it's now just a Junior Woodchucks Merit Badge, it's just boring. Same effect as a kit we don't interact with, I know, but the visual presentation is dull.

Oh yeah, I really disliked that implementation. So what, you get a perk/badge and all of a sudden you're able to inhale smoke without any gear or consequence? Why not add gas masks, or some way to breathe better in an smoke-filled environment?

Also, the HUD visual effect in the burnt forest looks really bad. Smoke rises from the corners of your screen, not at all with the environment?

I was just imagining the icon of like, a open survival kit, with various items poking out of it. The idea is still the same, I'm just not a fan of the Boy Scouts badge.

Yeah, badges don't make any sense at all. I mean, sure... they are completion badges for the challenges. But they don't make sense as a protection item. Hopefully they'll reconsider that at some point. All they have to do is change the icon to something that looks like it would protect you. Mechanics don't need to change.
Exactly. I mean, the mechanics already haven't changed from how they were originally described anyway, it's just a visual disappointment to me.

I just watched the whole dev stream.
So far so good.
I think I can get used to Frostclaw. 🥶 I like the Incredible Hulk type thing he does with the rocks. And WOW...it does damage! Consider that one hit from Grace brought him down from 104 to 79 HP. The rock brought him down from full health to 37 or something. But they seem pretty easy to dodge. I like it.

The blue and orange zombies look like they're gonna be pretty tough. To be honest, I barely concern myself with armor right now and I also play on high difficulties. This is probably gonna force me to learn them, which is a good thing.

I don't think I like the animated smoke overlay for the burnt forest though. It looked better when it was on all sides of the screen as opposed to when it was just at the bottom. The dark border overlay might just be enough, with some darkening of the overall screen. Maybe just coughing up smoke would work? I don't know. I'll have to play it. 😶‍🌫️

The new hand item models...very nice.

The few new POIs they showed look great.

And I LOVE how the Plague Spitter looks. It looks like he has deliberate jaw animations too! Hats off to the modeler! 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

+1 on the new HUD. it was the main thing I was hoping to see, since the UI overhaul is the only thing we had no news about.
I hope it was not referring to just the new item icons.

A customisable one would be great too. I love playing with an empty HUD, buy in the end I need to re enable it every time I'm doing a fetch quest and at the end of some clears. So if would be great if I could just hide everything but the compass.
