I understand why they were changed for the default game, and
when playing default it fits. But, now there is less and less modding
being available. I never used them for points, I had a
cascading setup, that allowed them to build up to a circling
flock, I duplicated the entity vulture but gave them random attack
patterns sizes and extra HP, based on distance, and time, some would attack and fly
away, while others attacked as a group. If I got hurt then all began
to chase, like a swarm. Every entity can spawn in all biomes, but they
were the primary threat in the desert. Imagine if you will, you enter the desert,
and see two birds circling, no biggie. Then you notice, more until there are
15 or 20, no major fps drop because it's mostly terrain and a decent pc. Using
between 5 or 6 spawn lines allows for volume increase gradually increasing the
threat level. In the entities I had 5 plus vultures all look the same but, some when
randomly generated in a flock of 20 snipe attacked, so head is always on a swivel.
Then you "Know" if you get hurt you must Di Di most Ricky Tick or you're dead. Mine
actually had high hp.
When they changed, it meant as long as I'm not clumsy and or intentionally hit a
cactus there is nothing but two birds casually flying about. For me removing the
open area attack, and making them only sleepers. Would be no different
than taking the ninja dogs out of the open areas and posting them only in dog
houses. Bet that won't happen. The mechanim being re-enabled in the
background would be non-intrusive and virtually invisible to anyone else.
When mine attacked window blocks, with a buff, it made a movie time feeling.
It included a circle of life scenario, every dead faction attacked all living
and vice versa.
My modifications use the eai properties in unconventional ways to cause
spontaneity, unpredictability, and chaotic disorder. Walking on streets, raises
heat, vs terrain to enhance feeling of stealth, during my play. I can raise
screamers just by walking down a block vs creeping in the tall re-scaled grass.
So for me it's a big change. I waited to see if it was a temporary change.
