PC Things TFP removed ... and you wish they hadn't

pristine colors for painting self-made walls or renovating pois...

The way we assembled minibikes in 16.4.....

Deco-blocks like lamps, etc...

I miss the realistic dumbness of zombies in A16.4. Each bloodmoon horde in 16.4 was scary and the suspense was at maximum: let's hope they can't find any weak spot and they don't reach me.

In A17 you cannot even hope anymore: if an horde created a passage into your defence immediately all the zs were updated on that location and they attack there.

No suspence no hope no realism no loot to grab at the end of the horde.

Serious answer to original question:

I've been playing A15 lately. I would play A14, but on Linux the graphics/lighting is screwed, and TFP never fixed it. So A15:

I prefer the old level/skill system. I've spent a lot of time with both, and miss the older version.

Spam Crafting! If I make 10,000 axes, you would think I would get good at it after a while. The level of my axes reflect my increasing skill in A15.

Hub Cities! Yes! Hub Cities! Need I say any more?

Lootable Zombies

Giant Bees - annoying but not as annoying as buzzards. I actually like buzzards too.

No health/stamina caps, no encumbrance. Those just annoy me.

Book Stores with recipes. Real recipes.

Recipes that you can read more than once.

You can run backwards, I think they finally removed that in A17

Dogs are harder to kill. Why do I miss this? Because dogs are stupidly easy to kill in A17. You bonk them on the head once, and they sit there, stunned, while you walk up to them and kill them. In A15, the dog runs up to you, rears, claws you and unless you move fast or put down spikes or barbed wire or get off a good head shot, your gonna take damage. Dogs are much deadlier in A15.

I think I started with A10, and while A10-A13 was OK, A14 was when they reworked the inventory/crafting display system, and while that was great, they screwed the graphics/lighting on the Linux client and did not fix it until A15. In A16 they introduced skyscrapers and removed the hub city. Hence my preference for A15.

A15 is my chocolate ice cream. I understand not everyone likes chocolate. I do. :-)

I miss all the removed features speacially the old skills system that make stronger not weaker.

I miss the zombies roaming around towns and cities, so the world doesnt feel empty. ( not having a huge surprise parties and sleepover inside the house) now the world is empty.

I miss the types of meats

I miss smell

I miss RNG

I miss the importance of crack a book

I miss books and schematics for learning (make more sense than perks)

I miss corpes for bones and loots

I miss assembling guns and vichles

I miss guns parts and vichle parts

I miss workbench combination

I miss the quality damege on weapon and tools (feeling of crappy to high quality items)

I miss E to harvest. ( im having a hard time to harvest)

I miss right click to use item ( cuz accidently ate the broken glass)

I miss all food and drink buffs

I miss the scary cops. (nerfed)

I miss the old wellness system (im out of stamina and tired cant type anymore)

I NEED BEER.

Experience. They were seen as too big of an xp buffet and they were occurring too often and like clockwork. So they were reduced in size to not be such a large xp binge event and their path was offset from the player by quite a larger margin so they wouldn’t always come into contact with the player.
A zombie game where the devs dont spawn zombies because there will be people getting XP. Lulz.

No one tought of further reducing XP to make up for the quantity of zombies?

talking of beer: I miss the way beer used to work. now, with "one swing and the vision is screwed" I never use it.
And you can't drink grain alcohol anymore. **sobs**. Everclear was my friend....

I forgot to mention my personal favorite, the FORGE HOUSE. With *working* refrigerators.

And bellows that could be made out of animal hide.

And wood windows that were not so filthy you coulnd't hardly see through them. A15 windows were perfect.

I miss the weapons part and the qualities of things.

I miss the books and resetas.

strange is the horde nights of the previous alphas, where you went out to confront them and knew that at the end of the night you would get rewards from the corpses. In a17 I spend the night of hordes waiting for it to happen, knowing that my antihordas is inderribable (12 x 20 rectangle of concrete completely filled with concrete blocks and 4 stories high) since it is not worth facing them even for fun Day 99 was when I left the game out of boredom.

But what I miss the most is the breadth of the map with its cities of different sizes of previous alphas I felt I was in the real world, now with A17 I feel like in the movie The Truman Show.

Honestly, I miss that it was just a new/unique playthrough everytime. Unfortunately I am shutting down my server when the current paid for month is over. It sits empty, all of my friends and twitch subs, are bored of the game. Most have told me that they've already uninstalled. Average response from my player base when I asked why they don't want to play anymore: "Before we had to find things, now level 100 is beating the game. I have everything".

I know TFP is working on some search items, and it's totally appreciated, still just feels like that "spark" is gone to some us.

I'll still be checking out new Alphas, beta and gold, but I guess it's time for a break.

I just remembered that I'd forgot about zombies losing their legs and crawling. I miss that a lot!

I miss searching for a "Crack a Book", Working Stiffs, Shotgun Mesiah, Pill Poppers or Shamway and actually FINDING crates instead of a POI maze filled with Zombies connected to other buildings.

Yes, some still do exist but the ones on the Nav map have been converted over to the POI mode which means when you are searching for tools or schematics, you have to let RNGesus take the wheel.

talking of beer: I miss the way beer used to work. now, with "one swing and the vision is screwed" I never use it.
This is true with all drinks. The new buffs are to short for them to mean anything - I mostly drink dirty water now. It is by far the most efficient allowing you to have 500 in your inventory at one time.

Buffs should last until the next item is consumed to be honest and be small enough to balance out.

I miss the fun...all the things that everybody has said previous like log spikes food books gore blocks regular poi's fun stuff that was rewarding!!

Not boring dungeon trade grind it is now.

Likewise. I miss fun, replayability and a loot based gameplay loop with a dependence upon RNG that rewarded players who performed more and faster looting given their time constraints. Giving players way more chances for that the dopamine hit of searching many, often empty, containers to find the one thing(s) you were looking for. (Diablo'esque?)

Before I quit A17 (On Navezgane) I had learned to memorize and hate every POI dungeon with its silly on-the-rails layout, conveniently placed blindsiding Zed jumpscares and of course the end of dungeon lootboxes. Earned after spending most of your allotted in-game day clearing out the dungeon that was just a normal suburban house pre-apocalypse...

Call me crazy but I liked being able to cruise through mundane houses fairly quickly, finding most of the world already picked clean by the other imaginary 'survivors' that came before me. Focusing on finding the types of containers that had what I wanted (Bookshelves, medicine cabinets, toilets (I miss you poo...) etc.) and save the all day events for the largest of landmarks. (Hospital, Factory, Colosseum etc.)

I could go on (Learn By Doing, Caves and many more already mentioned) but meh... The Project Zomboid'eque zombie survival/simulation FPS game I thought this game was becoming since I got hooked back in A10 or 11 is simply not the vision of the game moving forward. I'll miss it.

I miss having to actually go out and explore every city/town looking for a crack-a-book to find that fabled minibike schematic and the excitement of finding that last piece of the magnum you were missing followed by the frustration of one of the pieces being quality 25 and riding off once again into the sunset to hopefully uncover a higher quality part.

I'm enjoying A17 but man do i miss A16. A16 with the new vehicles, buildings, mods, recipes and upcoming RWG changes added would have been heaven for me.

I miss the variety of paints and textures, I love the fighting and exploring, but by level 150+ I have resources to be creative in my building. I like the new shapes, however I don't like the limits placed by the current palette.

I miss the variety of light fixtures, again its makes being creative a limited thing.

I miss the big hordes.

I miss fearing the spider zombie, they jump around so much on horde night that they die without me firing a shot at them. I don't use spikes. They somehow do it to them selves. Repeated fall damage?

I miss the books and the role play aspect of trying to find the book you "need".

I miss non dungeon poi's, while I enjoy the new poi's and I appreciate the work and detail that went into them, I also miss the simple day to day poi. I am not always in the mood for such a lengthy encounter.

I miss the old zombie AI, I have adjusted just fine to the new one, I just got more out of the old one.

I miss loot-able corps's.

I miss the hot cold issues simplicity, I knew what to ware and what to have on me. I don't like it being tied to mods that only seem to fit in armor. I am used to it now, but I still miss the old way.

I miss all the people who have left the server because they miss these and other things more then I do. We have only a few die hard players left. I miss my fellow players.

I am enjoying a17, I am anjoying learning a new way to play, I still find good reasons to play the game.
