Subquake's Undead Legacy

I know modding is an often thankless job, so I want to make sure that you hear this: Thank you so much for keeping on with your work on this overhaul, Subquake. I've probably dipped into every overhaul available and yours stands above them all (by far, in my opinion, but I know everyone has their own favorite).

While i will admit it's frustrating waiting on my fav mod to update (especially given how long it's been. I've been on medical leave the past 3 months and it ends on the 25th, was hoping we'd see a drop before then, give me a week or 2 w/ the new update before having to go back to work) but coonfox has the right of it.

Everybody who loves your mod knows it's worth the wait, and we appreciate the work you do for us and everybody else who uses your mod.

With all due respect, I don't think there was any significant progress made with UL mod so far. All those updates were just crumbles without any actual porting work logged. It could be the case Subquake is just trying to hold on his subs with those minor posts on X / patreon. Here are some facts:

* The last update on X was 80 days ago.

* The last actual functionality update was on March 18th, 2023: 573 days ago. I am sorry, but replacing textures of knuckles or firefighter zombies don't qualify as high priority work, more like "give them anything" content. Fire torch trap post did not state anything regarding whether or not it will be added to the next version of mod. So it could be just a cool demo only.

I know life happens, priorities shift. That is absolutely normal.

The only unfair thing here is he is giving his fans hope pretending the mod work is still in progress.
The sense of entitlement here is strong. Yet another person who has no idea the work that goes into mods like these. Major game version updates can introduce all sorts of issues that take time to find and fix, not to mention any new content/features he is trying to add. Just because he isn't spoon feeding you info every day of the week doesn't mean progress isn't being made. It's not like the mod just appeared and he is trying to scam a few people out of a few bucks. This mod has been around for a long time now and has been updated countless times. And now all of a sudden you think the mod is dead, just because the updates he has shown don't meet your criteria for what counts as an update? Dude...the guy is making a mod you can play for free. People like you are what causes modders to get frustrated and burn out. There's no reason for your types to exist. Either be patient and enjoy the mod when it releases or be quiet.

You're burning out here. the dude stated the fact. for so many years, you can find like-minded people. Yes, the mod is good, but without support, he will do it for a long time. I would have found someone...

bdubyah created the Wasteland mod, so he understands the mod creation process a whole lot more than you - especially since the Wasteland mod is an overhaul mod just like Undead Legacy is.

The fact of the matter is that UL is Subquake's mod.  It is up to him when it is ready for release, what needs to be done with it, and who works on it.  Subquake released this mod in 2016 and been supporting it every since (8 years).  Since this is a free mod that Subquake has put a lot of time, effort, and passion into it, neither you nor anyone else have the right to tell him what he needs to do and not do.

You can do whatever you want with any mods you create.  You can keep them as a solo project or you can create a team to work on it.  The choice is yours....for your mods.

You got it. Lets put pressure on Subquake so we get what we deserve. After all, playing it practically made it our mod. We earned it. Subquake should thank us for using our precious time to play it.

He should know that giving anything away for free makes one indebted to give away more the next time. Basic courtesy. Give and give now, or else.

😜😁

Hi where is the Wasteland Mod? I don't see it on the Mod Launcher

You could try posting on the actual Wasteland Mod forum as this is the Undead Legacy forum.

The Wasteland Mod is in experimental/testing, so you can get it from the discord, but some overhaul mods don't release their mods on the launcher when it is not stable yet.

pff. There is no demand, there is no supply. it is the consumer who criticizes. I'm a consumer, I'm a critic. And some also financially support it. I have created and programmed mods in the past and I know what and how.

You are not a consumer.  Consumers buy products.  User would apply in this situation, someone that is using a free mod to play with.

Making a donation to a mod creator is not financially supporting the mod, that just means you liked the mod when the creator released it and you are gifting him something in exchange.  It doesn't create a contract agreement between the donator and the mod creator.

I have been waiting for what seems forever for UL to catch up to 7 Days and like most of you I've been really sad because is was a wonderful mod. There is however an upside to this waiting. It's giving me the freedom to explore other mods for the newest 7 Days builds and let me tell you there are several that are really good. The first I tried was Wild West mod. I liked it, found that it was very entertaining and fun. The next mod I played was an exceptional mod, called Afterlife. It is crazy fun and challenging and it is now my favorite mod for 7 Days to Die. So for any like me tired of waiting for an engaging mod for 7 day, I think you should check either of those two, especially Afterlife. Both are found on the 7DaysModLoader.

I'll keep looking occasionally to see the status of UL and will welcome seeing it released, but I'm not holding my breath anymore.

I am sorry I hurt your feelings, but I was operating facts while you made assumptions about my entitlement, having no idea what it means to make mods, etc, etc.
Again, I don't think this mode is dead. I made a conclusion this mod is dead based on facts. You or anyone else are welcome to check whether these facts are accurate or not.

As soon as your frustration wears off you might also notice I meant no disrespect, and I specifically mentioned there is nothing bad in moving on. Life is complicated, priorities change. I am grateful for all the work was done by Subquake, especially given it's pro-bono nature.

What facts? Also, how do you think the mod isn't dead, but you conclude from your "facts" that it is? That makes no sense. And Sub literally posted tons of updates he has posted over the last several months, which specifically proves the mod isn't dead, regardless of whatever silly facts you think you have. Either way, I've said my piece. Seems like a waste of time to keep arguing the point.

тогда почему он до сих пор даже альфа тест не запустил чтоб народ по смотрел хотя бы краем глаза на его творение
Why he still hasn’t even run the alpha test so that people can look at it with their eyes closed...

Likely the experimental is not ready for outside testing.  Subquake did inform everyone that this was going to take time, as a lot of things changed between A20/A21/V1.0.  And the update from 1.0 to 1.1 likely broke a lot of things that were already done.

As before, it's hard to estimate exactly how much time will be required to port 2.7 to v1.0 and eventually release it, but I hope to get UL 2.7 experimental out sometime in 2024. Please be patient and don't be upset if things don't go as planned. It's a solo project, and all the hard work of making UL 2.7 ready for public release is in my own hands.

how does your ass burn when you say something bad and that it takes a long time to make a game. yes, then there will be problems with 1.2, then 1.3, then 2.1 and so on. I would have taken care of the team long ago if I didn't have enough hands.

Your words just prove that this will last forever. The developers will constantly update the game - release new versions, but the mod will never be released...

How did you reach that conclusion?  Is it because you want to believe that the mod will never be released so you ignore any information out there that contradicts your biased conclusion?

Subquake posted just this month that the mod is not dead and that work is ongoing for Version 2.7.  When he has it ready for release, it will be released as an experimental so players can shake out any bugs that are missed in internal testing.  And if you follow on his discord, you would have noted that he is trying to get the mod released by the end of the year, but he can't make any promises that it won't be delayed to early 2025.

As someone who has dipped his toes into modding 7 days to die, I apologize that we can't make our mods the highest priority so that you can get it when you want to.  It's really selfish of us modders to put our lives, our jobs, our family and friends ahead of your wants - I mean, when you look at it - what is more important?  The modder's life or your ability to download the latest free version of a mod created by someone else based on their love of the game and desire to share their work?

You just shouldn't promise something you can't do. It would have been better to write right away - "guys - I won't update the mod before 2025". And then most of the questions and complaints about the mod developer disappeared

Get over yourself. Most of the posts from Sub have been him saying he hoped he would have it out by then, so unless I missed a post somewhere where he made a promise to have it out at a certain time, you should just relax. Go play something else. Stop bringing useless and unneeded negativity here. Sub owes you nothing. Even if he literally made a pinky promise directly to you that it would be out by the end of the year, he has no binding obligation to fulfill that promise. There's no contracts here. The whiners in this thread are the types of things that make modders quit. Stop contributing to that.
