PC raise your gamma is like nightvision goggles (but better)

Are there any plans to deal with the people who cheat (yes, it's cheating) by raising their gamma, so they can see in pitch black darkness? I was kind of dismayed when I realized everyone on the multiplayer server can see in the dark.

You realize game "brightness" can be changed using computer/screen settings without ever touching the "gamma" in game right?

i can imagine that there are still possibilitys to counter this (additional to a admin who bans for it)

solution for sp/pve server: don't raise your gamma and play game as intended, you will enjoy it more.

solution for pvp server: raise your gamma as well, you cant fight against gamma , even if you remove this setting from the game you can still change it in system settings . Some hardcore pvp games managed to make it difficulty to see in the dark even with high gamma (adding dust etc) but i think that there should be others priorities regarding to pvp in this game with the current status..

This post is supposed to close this thread guys. Yes, raising the gamma is cheating, but nothing can be done against that.

That's not true at all.
How are they going to detect what gamma people have their game set at? I'd really like to hear your ideas, also, I don't really call it cheating as it is a video option built into the game that anyone can use. Now the x-ray stuff by glitching thru terrain that IS a cheat. I keep my gamma around 50 or so, base is 38. I mostly play SP though so yeah, I don't have the whole gankfest that pvp is to worry about.

I don't see how raising the gamma an option built right in the games video options qualifies as a cheat. If it was something only one person could do, then yes, but as far as I know everyone can freely edit their gamma slider at will, same for the brightness/contrast of what they are viewing it on. Calling it a cheat just sounds really stupid to me.

Still a cheat and exploit.

Nights are so dark you cant see the hand in front of your eyes (at least in green biome)

But sure hard to detect (as software or as admin)

I create content, and I play 7DTD to create that content. I'll always raise my gamma so viewers can see what is going on. Not sure why anyone would call that cheating lol.

PvP simply needs to be fair. If everyone else is turning up their gamma then you should too. Then people are on equal footing again

Increase alpha in solo or when playing with friends, why not ? But, it's missing something : the atmosphere of the nights, the thrill when one thinks to perceive a movement in the darkness, the active search for a light source, but it doesn't matter, everyone plays as he wants.

Calling it a cheat just sounds really stupid to me.
To you maybe. I guess you didn't want to be rude, so let me explain. On PVP servers, dark and lights are very important. It's cool to roam at night, trying not to be seen, searching for the enemy. But if everybody raise alpha, there's no more night. It's all a part of the gameplay that is ruined.

And I don't want to do that, because it hurts my immersion. So, when I meet a another player who don't need a light during a dark night because his alpha is set at 80, yes, he's cheating. And usually he's cheating because he is convinced that others do it too. So, no solution except playing against friends we trust.

If it was something only one person could do, then yes (...)
Here you justify the use of all glitches because everyone can use them. I of course disagree ^^.

Postprocessing effects to reduce saturation and increase blurriness in the dark? That's how the eye actually works in the dark after all. Things don't just turn black at night.

Because it IS cheating. In your case reasoned and not evil in my opinion, but still cheating.

You can see things you should not be able to see

BUT and thats why i say its not evil.

Its your game, you are the Gamemaster, so its on you to decide the rules.

I do the same, Hatches lifts are a exploit, but in all my games i declare them as intended.

(Inclusive on my server as i had one and i will again declare them as fair the next server. Well in A16 i had a rule that the same point must be reachable by normal ways like ladders)

This is why I take steroids. Just in case.

Roland I agree with you, but that ruins immersion. I don't play on a public server. I own things like PowerEdge hardware and as such, run my own server with my friends. We all sit in the dark together. I suggest others who want both PvP AND immersion get a group of friends you trust and play that way.

Also, the Ark devs locked gamma on PvP servers and gave server owners like myself (six Ark servers here!) the option to enable or disable locking of gamma. It is enabled on my servers. Yes, people complain that torches aren't enough and what-not, but the only way to get around this is using your monitor controls. No way to block that, yet. Even if The Pimps blocked changing gamma and force set it every few seconds so the graphics card control panel settings may not be abused, you'd still have guys turning up brightness on their monitors.

All this means to me is that a lot of people REALLY suck badly seeing as how they need to cheat to win.

I dont see it as cheating in PvP for the simple fact that everybody who knows about it does it. Why would anybody purposefully be at a complete disadvantage to all other players for 1/2 their playtime and risk getting smashed without ever seeing the enemy.

People have been using the gamma for years on PvP because its an available option.

Its like Roland says, its available for everybody, and its not like most PvP people are playing for immersion and zombies are not their main concern anyway.

Did i said this, your argument tried to justify it because of the long time it has been used.

My example only shows that a long use of a cheat dont justify it
