PC raise your gamma is like nightvision goggles (but better)

Did i said this, your argument tried to justify it because of the long time it has been used.
My example only shows that a long use of a cheat dont justify it
Its not a cheat if its available to every player in the game options. Its a choice. You also quoted and responed to 1 sentence. And it wasnt my main "justification" either. Good one.

Hopefully, from the shadow is enhanced for PVP also, like stay quiet in shadow make you not to be rendered. Just an idea from pve people.

SCUM has a interesting approach.Enemys you cant see are not rendered

We will see how this works
I would definitely enjoy that. (I think) I dont like having to use the gamma in PvP, but there is not much way around it when you know your enemy is doing it anyway.

Well am very kind, am i ?

Point is that adjusting the Gamma so strong that you can see in the dark (where you shouldnt see anything) is a exploit.

I can accept that some PVP player do that on servers the majority see it as "normal".

But i would ban for that on my server if it is used in PVP

Well, out of 6000+ hours of public PvP, you would be the first sever owner I have ever met that sees it like that. To each their own.

Maybe i am not enough PVP player. (I really name my next server PVEVEVP)

So i dislike many things pvp player see as normal

* Kill on sight

* Destroy bases (instead of taking only what you want)

*...

So my last server had a simple rule

"If you PVP offensive you play Death is Death"

I don't raise my gamma for seeing indoors , cause that should be dark. But outside at night ? I've never seen a pitch black night , neither at hunting camp nor in the city . Unless the canopy of trees is really dense , star and moonlight are sufficient . Not saying i can make out all the details, but I'm not tripping over logs and running into walls.

when its overcast it can get quite dark at night.

where i live if it is night and total cloud cover there is absolutely no light. i have broken toes that can attest to that

Nights are so dark you cant see the hand in front of your eyes (at least in green biome)
You're forgetting something. The human eye adapts to the darkness. When you step out of the light into a dark room you don't see anything in the beginning but with time your pupil widens and you recognize more and more in the darkness. But the game cannot accurately simulate this.

Why would the developers add a gamma setting if they didn't want you to be able to adjust the brightness/darkness of the game?

-A

Or are playing in a hammock, under the sun, with a glass of punch nearby and a maximum of reflections on the screen.

I used to play this way when I lived under the coconut trees.

There are other things you can do though besides adjusting the in-game gamma, depending on your graphics card and monitor. As mentioned, there is also post-processing software. It is not feasible to even attempt to regulate or monitor this.

The only thing I can think of that might bring some balance and fairness in a PVP setting would be to increase light brightness and range for mobile lights . This way, if you can use this a way to blind people at night. Or perhaps mod in some device that is used specifically for blinding people at night.

I know a other good good idea

Get gammavalue of client

If > 65% auto permaban client (Default is 38, on 65 the grafic is allready ugly whitewashed)

Sure, if (hardcore PVP) server hosts wanted the option to kick players with too high gamma set in game, I see no harm. It is a form of "cheating" or perhaps an unsportsmanlike act. Players who wish to have higher gamma than usual could play on servers that don't force this setting.

Just keep in mind that there is no way to regulate or know gamma values the client has set from the monitors' OSD, so in the end it's kind of a fruitless effort.

E: Well, to be honest, turning grass off could also be seen as cheating since you could remain hidden in grass on top of a ridgeline and see other people with grass turned up high approaching... But the line has to be drawn somewhere.

That would only work if using the game's gamma setting. Like I said before, there are several other ways.
