How are they partners?
Because they're the best advertisement for this game!

I got in from a friend, but I stayed after watching some Lets plays WAY before there was a starting quest.

*old man voice* Back in my alpha we didn't have these fancy first things to do, we had to find out everything by trial and death

I'm a little surprised that neither Neebs Gaming nor Achievement Hunter are on this list.

Yeah, AH is a big fish to land, but they have just recently started streaming 7D2D A17 so it's within the realms of possibility.

Neebs Gaming seems like a no-brainer though, assuming they're interested.

Not criticizing, I'll still watch one or two of the streams. Probably either Cap00 or Glock9 since I'm already subbed to their YT channels.

So they are not loyal fans? It has been explained 1000s times. You still have early access and will still get to play. They release it on say Monday it will be Monday regardless. They picked to use the streamers just a few days early to get the hype up and such. The only way it doesn't come on that say Monday is because something happens during that weekend that will cause a delay. I get it not everyone likes or agrees to this but this is what they want and 3 extra days isn't that big of deal really.
True mate. I just wish they should have stated that in the Kickstarter. I own this game in 3 versions (PC - lost email and thus lost Kickstarter version, PC and Xbox). I'm just tired of the goal posts changing from the promised crafting menu (Kickstarter) to promised release dates and now special access pre alpha to people because they have 5000 followers or more.. just tired that's all.

This is actually the best legitimate answer I've ever seen for this...
Folks who see streamers as "players who get paid for playing video games" are kinda missing all the work they have to do to actually be successful.

I know, I know, it's Dunning-Kruger all over again so you can try to explain it all you want - the basis for the understanding isn't there so only those who are already not complaining about it will be able to take away anything from it.

People. /shrug

Streamers getting it a couple days early doesn't bug me in the least. I can totally see the value TFPs get from it.

And the timing isn't an issue for me either.

But. Just an opinion here, but. If it were me I'd go with Streamers getting access 'mid-day' Thursday and then the player base getting access mid-day Saturday. Assuming no large show stoppers cropped up.

Yes, that would mean TFPs would wind up working through the weekend and likely Monday~Tuesday.

Reason being (assumptions) that of the possibly hundreds of thousands of players who opt-in to experimental, so they'd get access Sat., I would guess a significant percentage of them may only have a multi-hour chunk of time to play during weekends.

That said, something I really don't think The Pimps get -nearly- enough credit for is the _stability_ of their releases.

It doesn't happen by accident, and I for one am grateful for it. :applouse: :peace:

Only one Aussie gets to stream? Oh well, at least JC is on there, Walter isn't going to get let off that easy.
I love his show! He probably spends more time developing a story line and all them huge building than anyone else!!

In A19 Walter gets Hellfire missiles! You heard it here first. :)

What should they have stated in the kickstarter? That they would promote and advertise their game?

People get access because they made their hobby into a bussiness. Someone with 5000 followers has a bussiness whereas someone with 5 followers has a hobby. That is the reason why that limit even exists.

The new generation of players judge games by looking at youtube vidoes. Maybe you are too old or too young to have noticed this trend. Magazines are out, streamers are in. TFP is making a deal with streamers where they get promotion and the streamers get exclusive content for a weekend to increase their viewer numbers. Did TFP promise you exclusivity by the way?

Neeb’s Gaming applied for and were accepted for the A17 event. Once they realized how it would work they declined to do it (though they wished us well). Their format doesn’t work with only 2-3 days to prep, produce, edit, and release a video. They don’t do regular spontaneous let’s plays.

Achievement Hunter would be welcome if he applies.

There is something very desirable about a slowly ramping up number of players in the experimental. The fact that there are fewer players able to opt in and play on Monday morning and that more and more will trickle in after the work day is over each week day until the following weekend when the largest amount of people will get on will help keep the bug reports manageable.

hmm... maybe? Not sure if it would make a significant difference in "big reports", but I think you intended "bugs" there :)

In general I see your point.

Counter argument: guessing of course, but at this point, number of copies sold, TFPs own success in creating so many serious long-time fans, etc., that it might be likely that there will already be more than enough experianced veterns taking a sick day/s that any serious bugs involving the first dozen game play hours will be found in the first 24 hours?

(holy hell that's one horrible sentence! It just kept going and going... like it had a mind of it's own, whew! :) )

Kidding (and run-on sentences) aside, that counter argument can also be used to further support your original one. So...<helpless shrug> who knows?

I will say that one thing I do really like is that it's a set schedule. Anyone who bothers to read your first post can figure out that they only need chk once a week for a release date, and they don't even have to do that if they regularly follow one of the listed tubers.

Would be interesting to see a graph of bugs types (SS/Critical, Major, Minor, Trivial. or whatever) reported graphed over time.

Damn. I'm really wiped, can't make much sense at all. Sry to use you as an excuse to keep my eyes open :) only maybe 30-45 min till I can crash.

fixed my big bug in my post ;) --Roland

Think of it as two companies, one we know (TFP) and one we know of but don't understand because we're old (streamers) getting together for a promotion that benefits both.

Kinda like how Coco Puffs now uses Hershey Chocolate. =)

Streamers have to start somewhere, zero to known is not easy. Took me nearly six years to make it past 172k subs but a small team who is excluding their fan base because they under 5000 limit really puts those players who what to succeed, like the ones that the Fun Pimps are picky about, into a disadvantageous situation.

I know of one die hard 7DTD player who have under 4k subs but his last 7DTD video got over 20k views. At $0.10 YouTube adverting costs, the Fun Pimps got over $2000 worth of free advertising, which the Fun Pimps didn't have to pay but is seen as a kick in the teeth.... See where this is going? Misusing subs like KPIs don't work.

I think 5000 is a good limit. There has to be a limit or everyone just makes a channel quickly and wants exclusive weekend access. And 5000 is also high enough to prevent peepz from just buying the subs. Buying 5000 subs is way over 200 bucks. Buying views is 20 times cheaper and could also easlily misused.

All in all. Good and fair limit.

Cheers

JaWoodle is a great example. He is new to our list this time. He wanted to apply for the A17 event but didn’t quite have the 5k sub requirement and was excluded.

This time he qualified with over 15k subs. Someone who can create 300% growth in their channel is someone we definitely want to partner with. He obviously has a strong appeal and a talent for entertaining people.

Despite the posted requirements I get tons of emails from people who want me to make an exception in their case. I answer every one and thank them for applying but also tell them that we aren’t making exceptions. I then tell them that we would be pleased to have them join us for the A19 event if they grow their channel to the required amount.

JaWoodle did that from A17 to A18 and those that miss out this time can get it done for A19. Love and devotion to the game makes you a fan and we appreciate the fans. But to be a partner with us in the streaming events you need to also show some ability to appeal to and entertain a wide audience.

We know that 5k subs doesn’t mean a 5k audience always viewing. Many of those 5k will have subscribed but never returned to keep watching but they never cancelled their sub. But it does show an ability to continue to catch the attention of new eyeballs past the initial beginnings of the channel.

There will always be sour grapes for being excluded due to a requirement. Working to meet the requirement for our next event is the best course of action.
