I think everyone should at least try to stay above ground as long as possible. Props to who does it till day 210!
It would be a great thing to talk about and for sure, I'm open to advise.

Brute strength forts (solid first floor) start to fail around day 70. But then what? The skyscrapers?

That depends on how you formulate the question. If you actively defend and have access to infinite bullets, any decent base will hold indefinitely.

But right now the only way to increase the longevity of your base simply by building is to either go below ground or to "glitch" the AI. Not my 2 favorite options but it's the only possible way of doing it at the moment. Since block damage is pretty stronk and bullet spunges are a thing.

There's limitless designs that help you reach day 999+ You just need an active kill zone away from your support blocks & walls.

- Skyscrapers are really bad as they require a lot of support. (wasted space)

- Think more simple ^^

Batman,

Batman,
For A16, its easy to trick the AI, but that will probably not be the case in A17.

Only Shotgun Turrets are cost/effective if cheating is not an option. But you start running out even when farming zombie bones.

The only thing I can think of is to keep as many zombies moving as possible and not pounding on your walls.

So a set of four Forts in a square, linked by covered walkways, where you run most of the time.

Double wide, double deep upside down spikes alone the walls.

I will TRY to make it to Day 210 without a death, but there are just so many unknowns. A POI will most likely kill me when I get careless.

EDIT: How about spikes against the walls pointing out 2 deep? Zombie hits spikes zombie loses arms, zombie is "safe". :)

They make the game easier.
OMG You just became my favorite math teacher. We were having this argument in our discord and i was on the losing end of it by suggesting they made the scavenging part of the game a bit easier.

I guess I have to play nice now.

People abuse and cheese the traders... Get purples by day 3 and with very little effort.
That is all.
I totally agree, you can do so much with the traders especially now that the secret stash was fixed in a16, i think it is a bit over powered, personally i wish there was a way to only get quality items up to the level at which you can craft them, obviously its going to change in a17 but what can ya do lol, how is your medieval mod coming, i saw kage playing it a bit and it looks challenging, i like it.

No judgement here. Objectively they do make the game easier and I’m not sure how anyone could argue otherwise. I’m not saying that’s bad. I thoroughly enjoyed having a purple quality spiked club until it final wore out. It did make the early game easier.

Thank you Trader.

I could trades being a place to sell and use the tools and vending but not buy until you are XX level or barter skill of XX to purchase stuff that is green/blue/purple.

right now what I see a lot of players do is get with a buddy who can make cement mix and make stacks of 500 WCB or plates and sell them and get barter to 100 in no time and have 40K coins. Barter 75+ will get you $38K for 500 WCB (wet concrete blocks).

Someone wisely suggested that traders have a daily limit of cash. 2000 tokens would be good.

They do present the chance to give yourself little mini quests to find the loot to get what you want. Many times I have arrived back too late and that shiny thing I wanted was gone from their inventory. I do wish precious items could demand another precious item to trade like for like.

I have never abused the traders OR given them cheese! But I will sell everything I have to get a purple spiked club or crossbow by day three. :) Ya, they do offer high quality goods early, but that can be avoided by not shopping.

Yeh, but despite people's best intentions, most of us cheese the system when presented with the opportunity.

I almost never go to the trader... By the time I do, I already have purple gear and I'm only looking for rare stuff

What do you think about that, if you have both hands free, than you can jump 2 and if you have atletics over 50 - 3 blocks high, by pulling with hands. Its would just need proper animation. Do you think all the effort would be worth it?

I don't know but I do know what the Pink panther would say if he stepped on an ant.
He would say: Dead ant, Dead ant, Deadant-deadant-DEADANT-deadant-deadaaaaaaant! ;)

That's true. There will be new systems to cheese in A17 for sure, but I have the suspicion that Gazz, fataal and the rest of the team will make it more difficult this next release.

AI fixes will be awesome if we get the feeling of being hunted and vulnerable again. I would love that feeling of fear again.

Sounds like fun. I never went to college. Learned programming from books and trial and error.
Did almost 4 years in the Air Force as a Computer Operator in a comm center. Did game cracking on the side and wrote the Nib disk copier for the Amiga. A year (1991) after getting out I ended up working on arcade games in Chicago at Williams Electronic Games.
Oh, then did you overwhelm job requirement of TFP with your cool career?

It's fairly easy to mod traders out of the game, which is what I do.
I tried that but my wife made me put trading back in the game. I did it via vending machines rather than traders so she built walls around vending machines to save them from zombies. I like the change in tactics and that they can be destroyed.

I'm currently mostly playing on someone else's server now though and totally abusing the traders as Guppy suggests. Abusing them legitimately that is, not cheating (which I note since the awesome person running that server posts here :-) )
