Random thought.

The opening theme that should play as you start a new game:

The first 20 seconds playing before the player's eyes actually open, obviously.

Wait for A17.3 to put in diggers and “break random nearby block when can’t reach player” so that people get nice and comfortable in their bunkers and on their stilts first.....muawahahahah.

Roland, have you already released Alpha 17?

It needs actual ingame music first, like it used to have a few alpha's ago. I wonder why it was removed in the first place. The burst forest theme used to always creep me out I loved it.

it would be cool if you could find old Vinyl records or CDs in the game and build a record/CD player and play them. we would have to decide if we support 33, 45 or 73 RPM

I'd be interested to know if TFP plans on doing a game dev post-mortem after release. That would make an interesting GDC presentation...

Steam Sale

Just an FYI for anyone hip on the goings-on in Steam:

With the impending A17 update and the summer sale on Steam with 7 Days on 64% off, now is a great time to bully your friends and family into picking up a copy or 3 and getting in now while it's good and cheap!

Роланд. Когда уже выпустите Альфу 17?
Он будет выпущен, когда это будет сделано, но экспериментальный может быть выпущен в Juli. Но, скорее, в августе. Перевод с использованием переводчика.

It will release when done, but experimental could release in Juli. But more likely in August. Translated using translator.

ALL THAT, with no official computer degree. :)
Sounds like fun. I never went to college. Learned programming from books and trial and error.

Did almost 4 years in the Air Force as a Computer Operator in a comm center. Did game cracking on the side and wrote the Nib disk copier for the Amiga. A year (1991) after getting out I ended up working on arcade games in Chicago at Williams Electronic Games.

On pathing I've got a question, I've snagged quite a bit of meat and fur from wolves that get stuck running towards me in the water, because either they can't just walk on the bottom like the zombies, but they can't swim either?
Is this something that is being looked at? Or is it something that will have to wait on water being fixed?
Never seen that. I added it to my todo list, but may not look at until after A17.

No. Alpha 17 is still not released. The developers are hoping the end of July but that could get postponed depending on if there are any problems that come up. I was joking to faatal that he should wait until a later A17 patch to add the abilities to dig and break nearby blocks to surprise players who started building their bases already.

@Roland, what do you know about traders?

Will there be new traders in the game?

Will traders have specialization?

Will each trader specialize in a certain type of goods?

Will there be a new trader base as was shown in Joel's video in the concepts?

They make the game easier.

Yes.

Not that I'm aware. It's pretty much random.

Not exactly like that concept. I haven't seen a new trader POI but I haven't seen all the new POI's either.

I don't know. Concept art is for inspiration. It doesn't always translate directly into the game.

And you know, that's the best way to do it IMO. Maybe not the fastest way to learn, but when you're stuck on something, you pull out one of your favorite manuals and in not too long, you know how to do it!

When I was in the Navy I also worked on debugging a CTAPS installation with an Air Force colonel that used to be a test pilot. Might not sound like a great fit, but by god, when the poo hits the fan, you WANT an air force test pilot in your corner! An amazing human being. :)

will zombie be able to find path to the player to the top of higashi on horde night?
Until A17.3, no. After A17.3, if you stay on the top of Higashi during horde night, there will be no more Higashi.

I think everyone should at least try to stay above ground as long as possible. Props to who does it till day 210!

It would be a great thing to talk about and for sure, I'm open to advise.

Brute strength forts (solid first floor) start to fail around day 70. But then what? The skyscrapers?
