PVP only really works if everyone is on a level playing field, even minor difference in latency can mean the difference between life and death. In this game where you must take time to build a character the chances of a fair fight is virtually nil. Combine that with the schadenfreude that seems to run deep in the PVP crowd and you have a recipe for a bitter experience for new and casual players.
Exactly what i meant. :) Not suitable for pvp for exactly that reason you mention.

Cheers

I just noticed they mentioned classes in the new skill system section. Eww.

Anyone have any info on that ? If its not optional, that may just ruin the game for me.

That is not true, as lvl 15 i killed for example a 200 guy maxed out, with a hunting rifle. a headshot is headshot now.
I dont think so. A level 600 heavy bandit helmet can withstand a head shot... furthermore you can have 250 wellness and full armor skill... and they guy who shoots has a quality 45 hunting rifle, with 0 rifle skills...

Also I usually shoot back with my level 600 sniper, or Ak47

The fact that I still can't smell the zombies approach, ruins the game for me. I'm sure 90% agree.
Agree, I can smell my neighbour, but not the zeds ? Pimps ducks.

Why that bothers you, it will bring brand new way to play.

where´s the video? :(
madmole said he will show stuff more frequently...over a month ago
But before that he said he will not show a content that shows half finished or stuff that does not work properly in a matter to avoid flooding forums with useless discussions.

Aand to focus on their work better.

You say, that you don't waste time, but you wasting time just to (power level, prioritize pvp skills, get gear and then rush to build "tower base").
All this work just to humiliate some players (and have fun doing it), that killed you and go on another server to do the same boring and time wasting thing. When you can kill player with lvl 200 with a hunting rifle while you are lvl 15, like you said in your post.
We are all wasting time, in one way or another. Apart from that PvP obviously is fun (or it wouldn't be so popular) and some people have the time and want to put in the time to reach that fun potential. The important part for a PvP player is not to get angered by deaths but realize that PvP is the equivalent of a rogue-like in PvE.

But: The long preparation time ForWar01 talks about suggests that the market potential of PvP-7D2D is more limited than imagined by some, patience is a seldom virtue among players today.

eh. whatever. i've never been the sort to care much about what people on message boards think of me.
i am going to stand up for those people over there; because its the right thing to do.
That wasn't the reaction I was hoping for. Sorry, but adding your flame to a flame war in some forum is not helping anyone, least of all the poeple you're trying to help.

As a gamer here: Why not some kind of controlled PvP system in general? Someone that wants to shoot at you has to call you out, then you would get 20 seconds or so to get the hell out of there or be ready to fight. Then fights are always fair in that regard. It wouldn't stop them from say, setting mines outside a door of a house you were looting or anything. But for ranged it would provide a more fair and, dare I say it, fun way to duel it out. It's never fun to be shot in the back, there is a reason you rarely see that kind of thing in shows and movies, it's boring and shooting someone in the back has been frowned upon since the invention of the ranged weapon.

This would allow say, a sniper perk that would lower the callout time, but you would have to specialize in it. I'm not speaking as a dev here. I've just thought about games and how things work on say, walking dead when there is a confrontation. Rick and the other leaders get right up in each other's business before a firefight. That, in my mind makes the upcoming fight that much more intense. Knowing you have X time to post up, and them knowing that they can't attack you until that timer is out.

Just a thought from a guy with oddball ideas. lol

PS, I know it sounds very western(ish) heh
It is an interesting idea. However it would feel ultimately gamey to me without some type overarcing goal or structure in mind.

When you think of persistent open world pvp games, what games come to mind that do it well and vice versa?

...

I remember Rust when it first came out and the caveman survival and building aspects were exciting. Then came the realization, that your success was limited by the number of hours you could play AND your number of clan mates. This is especially true since there are no safezones in the game.

I havent gone back to the game in a long time, but back then there was no goals aside from amassing items and resources, and building the largest settlement on the server.

Although this is enough reason to drive others to play, ultimiately this was not enough motitavtion for me.

A few pvp modes that come to mind:

1) Short Battle Royale Type Modes

-King of the hill, DM, TDM, etc.

-Intended for fast gameplay

-Great for a quick competitive fix

2) Short to Medium Buildup Type Modes

-TDM, Team KotH

-Defender vs Attacker

-One team is given a fixed amount of

time to prepare for the attacker.

3) Open world PVP with player stat persistence

-MMORPG persitent worlds

-PVP specific Zones vs PVE only Zones

-Safe Zones where all players can

socialize/trade.

-PVP instances w/ specific balancing features in place (ie. Think player level matching when queuing up)

You will get typical RPG-attributes. So if you want to play a melee-fighter you should think long and hard and then put some points in strength :smile-new:

Just check first page of this thread for features that are confirmed. I don't think they committed to classes yet, but they were talking about it, not sure though.

Also even if they add classes, they could do it the "modern" way of an open class system. I.e. where you can still learn anything, you just might get penalties or bonuses on a skill fromt he class.

I would prefer a classless or open class system too.

You could also have a "classless class", essentially a non-specialist. Instead of having a lot of bonuses in certain skills the bonuses are spread evenly among all skills. This would suit players who dislike the class system.

Yes, and it is also safe to assume that whatever class system is put in, relatively simple mods will allow to add such a non-specialist even if it were missing from vanilla

i did say that bit was just a hunch. i'll be very clear that i have ZERO proof of it.
btw i didn't say it was happening 'here', nor did i say anyone was saying anything unpleasant. my concern is with behavior, not words. behavior elsewhere. but i've been warned by roland that i can't speak of it here. and i have been...more thoroughly prevented from speaking of it elsewhere. so i won't speak of it.
I'm talking about the steam forum bit, not the hunch bit. You're in the wrong on this. Take a step back, you'll see it.

Good luck.

Almost one year for a new alpha despite a significant growth in the team, no video in 3 weeks, I'm surprised to have returned to the forum for a quick look at this stagnant hole to find people still here lol

Lets hope this Alpha 17 is worth it,And let the modders do there thing.

Madmole goes on about new bike,Car and ragdoll...NOT interested in that as we have a vehicle and the zombies die just fine.(these can be added later)..I'd sooner see a water tank we can fill and use with the sinks or a tap.

Sort what we have now,OR its another year of waiting

Don't know about you lot but i'm still digging alpha 16 :) ..and if I couldn't mod out the bits i don't like i'd just go back to alpha 15.

Games are not easy things to make. And remaking the game, again, from the ground up!?.. well hats off to em.

I am one customer who is more than happy to wait for alpha 17 ..if it means it'll be an overall better experience.

And as for MM & the team, I am sure they are hard at work.. but if they are not - I wouldn't blame em for taking a vacation!

This game provides a 3D experience of a world I could only dream of experiencing before. Roll on the zombie apocalypse - that world makes more sense to me :p

We've just been playing the game, waiting for people to update mods, and chatting with the devs. We'll be pretty excited when the new alpha comes out. What've you been up to?

I think they're rolling their dice on that we won't mind so much once A17 releases.

I guess they downgraded their interaction with the community, as a whole.

Nothing wrong with that, I guess. Once A17 hits the streets nobody will care if it took 6 months or 12 months.

People that DO stop playing the game, at this point, will in most cases return to playing it actively once a new alpha is released.
