If you are like me and build your forever base on a 21x21x6 concrete slab then it doesn't matter what the zombies do they aren't destroying it to take down your base because the entire slab is structural. For me I'm looking for a next zombie up mechanic where they can climb on the backs of the zombie in front of them like ants and overcome obstacles.

For example if you use an iron bars as a vertical ledge to stop zombies from climbing they will just climb on the back of the closest zombie and damage the bars until they clear the obstacle and provide a path for the rest of the zombies to get through, this should already be true for the spider zombies they should already be exhibiting this behavior.

There are all kinds of behaviors that zombies can exhibit which would give us a challenge we just have to challenge Fataal to think more about it.
It has been asked before, to bring in World War Z zombies, but the idea did not take hold. Personally I also think that it may fall beyond the scope of what tthe devs have in mind for the Zs. You will most likely later on get mods with this built in for sure, once the game gone Gold and mod support has been fully implemented.

I fully support the idea of World War Z zombies, it would make the game a lot more fun and challenging. It has already begun with the "Feral Wight" and the "Spiders" but we need more of these types.

Cheerleaders should be climbers like spiders for sure because they are gymnasts.

Giving zombies more abilities should be foremost on the minds of the developers because behavior is important and relevant.

Thats why I wanted behemoths. and ziplines, with behemoths USING zip lines!

End-game content, as in, the game ends afterwards? Nah, I prefer not to have such things. Sure, if the game can be continued afterwards, then it would be fine, but is it truly end-game then?
Hmm. “Endgame content” can also mean gameplay that’s fun to do after you’ve reached the endgame, i.e. maximum level, maximum gamestage, etc., with nowhere left to advance. I assumed that’s what people were talking about this time, rather than a climax to the storyline or actual game over screen.

I certainly hope not. I was thinking they would just waking up the zombies in the POI and maybe a bit further. No easy kills if you are not good at stealth.
My point is waking up the zombies in the POI does make for easy kills - easier than tiptoeing stealthily room to room as intended.

Ha! Now I’m picturing a squad of zombie cheerleaders coordinating tosses and pyramids to get over your walls. Go team Z!

so what exactly is the hold up at this point? just curious. that bar hasn't moved much since i last checked weeks ago.

just to defend against the fanboys who will descend upon me for 'complaining' about the slow pace of development: i am just curious as to what is left on the to-do list.

Making a playable version after rebuilding half the game from the ground up most likely. The bar is actually moving faster than I would have ever guessed so not sure why people come in complaining about it never moving.

see? ask a question about what is left to do, get accused of complaining. sigh. these forums are just so damn prickly.

beyond that....faster than you would have ever guessed? really? i mean....really really? for real really?

Because it has been steadily slowly progressing...and that is all anyone can ask for...

If you have ever programmed or made a game before you would know that any progress always causes some other unforeseen issue and especially massively overhauling main systems like they just did...Plus anytime they have released or teased something not finished they always got so many people complaining about it...remember when Madmole first showed early video of the new bear? or when he first showed the new "jeep" even though he clearly said it was early and not finished , there were so many people complaining about them...sort of damned if you do , damned if you don't...they might be trying to get Bandits done and their first implementation...

I am hoping for an early June Alpha release as a birthday present! but eh , I can wait...working on my own Unity game and plenty of other stuff to play when I have the chance till it is finished...

I thought your question was a polite way of asking what's going on. I'm also curious in a 'curious but non-complaining' way :)

By profession, my "pay the bills" job now is a professional software analyst/dev for software so I do understand the lifecycle.

Yes, really. Because I understand programming and development I have some clue as to the amount of work they are doing.

And if you don't want to be accused of complaining, don't start your post with "so what exactly is the hold up" Just saying.

Well hell it looks like i'm going to have to revise my mid May guidance on experimental release, it's definitely not going to make it.

Maybe mid June is more realistic at this point.

yeah but they REALLY shouldn't be working on new features at this point, right? they should be polishing up features that are already 'mostly' done and pushing anything 'iffy' features off until 17.x or later.

what i am asking is "when are the devs going to say 'these are the features that we are going to roll out a17 with'?"

to ask another way: have the pimps implemented a soft cap on new feature implementation? or are there still major features on the to do list?

^that is what i was going for. i knew i would fail, no matter what. people be touchy round here.

Wasn't there a massive controversy about that a little while back, in terms of getting the game censored / banned in certain countries which would possibly affect sales or something?
We already got tits, though.. I love this. Need more tits.
Well, i can only speak for Germany, but here Children Zombies would be a easy way to get the game censored... sadly, we have a very old-fashioned system of censorship - excuse me, obviously i mean youth protection *cough* - and since the Churches are involved (yap, it's really that bad!) Zombie games tend to get censored pretty consistently. As an example: The first three "Dead Rising" games are forbidden(!) is Germany, not only 18+, but completely forbidden... two courts have issued a verdict to confiscate those games, making it a crime to try to sell them. It's completely bonkers...

So, yeah, if TFP wants to have any hope to sell their game in Germany, they can't implement Children Zombies, because that would definitely tip the scales... generally, i think highly controversial stuff like that should be left to modders...

I don't know what can be done about false positives like "S♥♥♥♥horpe,"
Honestly, the best way would be to not use censorship like that at all - i don't see any reason to use censorship for classical curse words. We are talking about a game with heavy violence here, a game that certainly won't be addressed to children at all. So why the censorship? Heck, even if it was addressed to children, i don't understand this American mentality of banning curse words absolutely everybody uses. Banning Racism and Insults - okay, no problem. But banning neutral curse slang? Why the frack would anyone do that?!?

(and yes, i write that, being a 35 year old social worker, having worked with children for years in the past...)

How many of you guys build your storage and crafting stations on the second floor just in case Zs break through? With Zs targeting SI weak points you can't retreat to 2nd floor any more. Do i really need to set up base underground even though i don't want to?
My crafting and storage room is always underground... that doesn't make the base an underground base, it's just a cellar room. And yes, the current game forces that pretty much, having your chests and work stations on ground level is a clear recipe for catastrophe...

And the idea of building a separate horde base actually sounds nonsensical to me. This is already "meta gaming" - you can't protect your valuable stuff by securing a base so you build a "fake base" that has nothing valuable in it. That's not intuitive, it only makes sense in 7D2D.
Yeah, i agree, you should build the base to protect your valuables (including your life), the base should be the safest spot in the world and thus the natural location for the storage room. Sadly, the game is built in a way that you can easily make a small underground crafting room somewhere a little bit away from your base and it will be so much safer than anything in your base...

That may be another reason why we need an intelligent threat that goes for valuables, instead of the "stupid" threat of zombies who only go for brains. Imagine there would be Bandits that are programmed in a way that they can find and plunder your crafting room if it doesn't have any form of defense... that would force people to have their crafting room inside some kind of fortification...

I think that more random events would really benefit 7D2D, something like the random horde or pack of zombie dogs that are allready in.
For example, there's a small chance of a storm spawning over the area where the player resides and with it a bunch of vultures circling over the players base and attacking while the storm lasts.

Or something similar...
I actually had a vulture horde spawn on my base at night. It was interesting...their pathing could use some work... They are pretty hard hitting on day 1 and if you sit there trying to shoot one down, and if you get infected it could spell disaster (I added a crippling fever buff and shortened the duration of the infection stages. Even after being cured the fever still runs its course).

With that, I feel another way to make zombies more challenging would be to increase the likelihood of infection and making the effects of that infection tough to overcome. (I imagine this is an area in A17 that is getting some love)

They're pretty vulnerable to a blast from a blunderbuss, I like that mechanic, I hope it survives the weapons overhaul. Always keep a blunderbuss and a handful of ammo for it, seriously, vultures are a nightmare to hit with a bow but you just have to aim in their general direction with a blunderbuss and you'll have more feathers than you know what to do with. It sometimes makes going to the wasteland biome worthwhile as a low-level character, you can hang around the edge of the biome and see them from quite far away.

I enjoy reading and writing profanity-free posts as a rule of thumb. Profanity has its moments either for humor or to emphasize a strong emotion but trust me, when the censors are gone the standard of writing sinks fast and it becomes a vastly over-used eyesore riddling every post in the forum. I'm glad we have something keeping the level of writing to a higher degree and when the moment suits a ♥♥♥♥ or a ♥♥♥♥ you can type it and everyone knows what the hearts stand for. I do believe that avoiding profanity when in public places and mixed company is a time honored rule of polite society pretty much everywhere and not just an American convention.

For those moments, though, just remember that "phallus" isn't filtered....
