PC Can we please stop tripple gating Things?

True. I also enjoy the slower pace. There's just the point about base building. It's getting a bit tricky if you have bad luck and still have to rely on reinforced concrete and metal spikes after some BMs - most notably on higher difficulties. To avoid this I've to perk into int if I want it or not (and I don't want it, I just want that damm crucible :) ). IMO this multiple gates are just a bummer.
Loot all the book stores, gas stations and those kind of pois. In all 3 of my 18 playthroughs I've never needed to spec into int crafting - I've found all of the schems for those - and my rng luck is trash lol

I'm doing this till day 2 or so. I can give you some Pistol Pete sets if you need them. :)

Well, I can see how making steel by leveling up attributes and perks is not feasible for a SP.

It takes 7 point in the Int category to get Forges, Chem stations and Work stations. EDIT: and Cement Mixers.

It takes an ADDITIONAL 16 points to get the crucible for steel... It feels a bit troll-ish to make people that want to build one on there own, spend so many points in such a weak category.

I would never do that. Spend 16 points for a small deal? Nope.

Spend the points on Lucky Looter and hope for the best? Oh Yes! :)

Exactly, a18 makes spending many of the points feel like you are wasting them, since you just find it anyway.

You didn't hear the news? The new name is: 7 Days to Max Lucky Looter. :)

But seriously, the game design is now to get us off our lazy ass and loot stuff. It works for me. I've explored much more now.

Also, picking the Perks that dont have books too is what I usually do.

EDIT: the trader sells a Re-spec for the character for 36000 Dukes I believe, Grampa's forget it all... something like that.

Get the parts from scrapping the item, so for example, scrap a crappy Auger, get 3 Auger parts, once you have 15 Auger parts you can make your own (and with proper perks, that could be a tier 6 auger now).
There's no threshold I know below which you can't get steel tools (or other items) in loot, it's just RNG.
I'd have to delve into the files but I wonder if the odds increase as you level though. I know i've found steel tools on day 1 before so I can definitely confirm they CAN drop.

The OP is being a jerk, but I think the point is valid.
You don't use a Tazas stone axe in the recipe for a Steel Fireaxe.

Requiring that my explosive arrows be built form an AP arrow is...silly. Just make them from a normal non-steel arrow? They don't even need a tip really.
Yeah but your talking about a perk, that gives you incredibly powerful items. The requirements are more strict for a handful of super powerful items. Explosive arrows aren't needed, its a luxury item.

My advice to you: Don't assume anything, because it makes an ass out of you and me. I have found four traders and I visit all four of them every time they restock. Not once have I seen Steel Tool Parts or the AP arrow book.
Did he have steel tools? If yes buy them, break them down for parts to craft better ones. I was having issues finding motor tool parts, found 1 t1 chainsaw, got a second t1 chainsaw from a quest reward, first trade took 8 restocks to have 1 motor tool part, found 3 in a working stiff box in a new poi. Broke down both chain saws crafted a auger day 18.

Plus you don't need steel tools tbh, the only new thing I would like to craft is a baseball bat, I found a t4 one and like 7 t1 ones I broke down for parts. So when I eventually find the book it's homerun time baby lol.

RNG is RNG. Some games you get lucky, some games you don't. Its part of what makes the game fun. It's also why they made all the basic stuff not reliant on RNG. You could easily do all content with Iron tools for instance. Steel tools are a luxury that comes in late game and I don't see an issue if you have a game on day 30-40 where you haven't been able to craft max level steel tools yet.

+1 I spec enough str to run with a decent club, miner 69r for better tools and lucky looter as soon as I possibly can now. Boom t6 AK, t6 compound bow, t4 bat, mods falling out of my ears and a t6 augur day 22.

I agree, so far this is the best update since a16, only thing I would change is re-adding the hoe for ground farming, not because the plots are particularly hard to make or get, but because they make farming not quite as fun IMO.

Exactly, looting needed a buff in a17 and I even asked for recipes and weapon parts to be brought back. But they went totally over board.

One good loot trip to Crack a Book and loot all rotten trash... you will find all recipes and some books.. and crusiple also. day 9 and working all steel...

Heck i'm on day 11 on our server and last night I found

T6 Steel Spear

T6 Pistol

T6 Ak

T6 Miltary helmet

If anything per MM they are going to lower the loot so you are LESS likely to find such good stuff so early

I am with the OP on the steel tools thing. I have a crew that I play with, all max LL, except me because I am the crafter, and we are on day 32 and the only steel tools we have are the ones that we have found, and none of them at L6. I can make steel tools but it takes so many parts, and they are such incredibly rare drops, that I haven't made a single one yet. At the very least there should be a schematic or something that allows you to learn how to make the steel tool parts so that you can actually craft them once you have the perk points spent.

While the tone of the OP was uncalled for - this being experimental and all where perfection is not expected - the point is valid. I fixed that.

Fixed what? The recipe for exploding arrows?

If so at least IMO should look into the recipe for the M60 instead as it seems kinda unbalanced that I can scrap AK's which are common to make M60 which is far more rare.

What did you fix? I'm confused.
Exploding arrows / crossbow bolts require AP steel arrows / AP steel crossbow bolts.

To unlock the exploding arrows / crossbow bolts you need a certain book but you also need another book to unlock the AP steel arrows / AP steel crossbow bolts. So without the book for AP steel arrows / AP steel crossbow bolts the book for exploding arrows / crossbow bolts has no use.

I assume Gazz replaced the AP steel arrows / AP crossbow bolts with steel arrows / steel crossbow bolts. You can spec into steel so no second book necessary.

I think the pacing feels generally okay right now, but with the focus on specialization (which I'm iffy with anyways in SP) I think it's important to ensure ways of getting specific late game items instead of just relying on RNG. I've never particularly enjoyed how I often got stuck without beakers well into late game before A18, and it looks like there's more stuff now that you can need/want but never get. If it happens to be something you specialized towards, that's just not Fun. Even if you can technically work around it.

Re-specializing with the Forgettin' Elixir is a nice option in general, but having to use that to specialize around the loot you got feels a little backwards to me.

Maybe the loot just needs some balancing for late game items such as tier 3 parts, or it could be added into special chests for high risk locations. But that would require high risk locations that always scale for late game.
