PC Alpha 21 Discussion Overflow

I think you misread loot.xml. Ask yourself: Do you really find duct tape in every second car like you claim below?
No, I didn't misread it, I just failed to mention that it was entered into groupautomotive under groupcraftinguncommon along with 3 other groups. I didn't think there was any great value added in defining the differences for every particular container or lootgroup.

On average you find about 14 glue in 100 workbenches.
Which differs from 20 in 100 of a random assortment of its preferred containers by a huge amount... 🙄

Does glue in A21 need boiled water? They said that making boiled water needs a cooking pot again, but I don't remember whether they also changed the glue recipe (in A20 it needs murky).
I don't remember either but it's functionally the same if it requires a cooking pot to make.

Don't think so. You didn't post a complete list of possible changes and their probabilities yet. You just argued that it would be useful.
Oh FFS, and you did not prove that every possible variable needs to be accounted for in order to derive value. Again, this is a form of modal fallacy equivalent of saying that you need to know what color a car is to determine its gas mileage.

@schwanz9000 has made a lot of changes to the loot tables and probabilities for A21. Applying A20 xml values for loot not to mention anecdotal evidence of your own play experience of the current version to try and grok A21 is an exercise in futility.

When do you start taking Iron Gut or the temperature skills?
2 of my initial 4 points always goes into iron gut and rule 1: cardio with the next two being whatever build I'm playing. If I'm starting in the forest biome then I don't bother with well insulated until I'm ready to hit the more difficult biomes, and I never have to take more than one point in it until I've got no other place to spend points., if I'm playing a desert or winter biome start then that point into well insulated is immediate from the first 4.

I maybe be over hydrating at times
Yeah, I think that's probably it. Hydration does stack a little bit kinda for a little while, but...

While true, I can’t guarantee anyone has had the fortitude to keep up with the conversation this long… 😉
LOL That's alright, we're amusing ourselves, and I'm sure it'll get ironed out eventually.

Not to mention that we have no idea what @madmole is going to do to the perk tree. <shudder>

I will note that you're not contradicting my general assumption that the drop rates of murky water, glue and duct tape don't produce a hard choke point for normal crafting...right? 😉

Yes but HOW are the First Person animators doing? 🙂
They are quite animated about the animation they are doing.

The things that we have front and center is a learn by looting system that absolutely is a glorified tweak and waste of dev time. Also a water fix and tweak of how you can get drinkable water.
And yet…those “tweaks” have had a profound affect on the game. It is going to feel fresh and new to most veterans. That being said, obviously some will enjoy the the change and some won’t, wishing the devs would have left alone stuff “nobody asked for”. I think most will like the changes but it will be interesting to see.

The new way of getting water isn't that interesting compared to Bandits, new player model, environmental hazards, dismemberment system and new quest types. I don't get why people perceive alot of these changes in A21 as a waste of dev time? who are you to quantify what is productive and what is not. I am glad they are working on all these things

I'm fine with the direction of things changing every alpha
I agree that things change each alpha. That should be expected. But what do you mean by the direction changing?  To me, things are heading in the same general direction they’ve been heading all along.  What direction are you saying we were heading in before and what direction do you think it’s changed to?

I’ll give my answer first:  I think the direction they’ve been going is to make the first 20-40 hours of gameplay accessible, challenging, and fun with plenty to do and multiple pathways for progression. They’re also very driven to improve the visuals and the world building elements. To me, the changes they’ve made in the game have all been to those ends.

But what do you mean by the direction changing?

Downhill.

Losing tonnes of good features and replacing it with out of place stuff like the drone (that I used once and shelved for its lag spiking) and needless fluff everywhere we don't need it (i.e street lamps) and nowhere where we do need it (more zombie models.)

Serious question - if no more zombies are added, are modders going to have access to create equal quality zombies; and support, where neccessary, to make and implement them?

If not, I just won't remotely be surprised.

If yes, I will be pleasantly suprised, and it would generate a corollary. Have the devs considered allowing unpaid creators to submit models for the devs to polish and include in the game while its still in development?

A dev-playerbase interaction to this end would be amazing, and even if the devs didn't offer any compensation, I would gladly support this both from a perspective of encouragement, and financially via donations.

And before anyone has a chance to misinterpret me - I don't mean mods. I mean creations and submissions from players to devs, followed by submitting a final creation for the devs to perhaps polish and incorporate into vanilla.

Modders have been adding their own models for a while now, I don't believe that will go away. (Not referring to UMA created models)

As far as unpaid creators submitting their work to be cleaned up / modified to be added to the game.  It would likely take more work then creating their own so I doubt something like that would happen unless it was some type of post gold launch community event. (Same goes for POIs).

Would you like to expand on the dislike Jost? Or you have ambitions of becoming the next Kuasimodo?😏

I did add the caveat with support. I am not a dev, I don't have any of the skills that the modding community posess, and I don't know what would be required. But if the developers did hand pick some people even to work together and provision them with what was needed I suppose it wouldn't be far fetched to think that would allow for more trouble-free integration.

Regarding other zombie models - can you point me to some mods that have zombies of the same calibre - in both looks and behaviour as those of vanilla?

I am not aware of any but if they do exist I would be interested in reviewing them.

Can't say I have seen any better than the current HD redone zombies but the following might have something that may interest you.
