Like a hazmat zombie would give you a 30% infection with one hit? We talked about this.
He's right though, infection isn't really an issue. You either die before you reach 100%, intentional or not,  or you use medicine from your stockpile of supplies.

I had thought a bit about this, there a couple ways to handle this:

  1. make medicine harder to come by
  2. add some extra penalty for dying while infected beyond a certain limit

    increased xp penalty
  3. spawn infected, with rate reset

[*]have zombies hits have chance raise infection rate if already infected

[*]more reasons to use medicines

[*]more dangerous early infection

1 is about limiting the supply of medicine. It's a bit clumsy and is hard to balance properly and is still a non issue with crafting late game.

2 is more about preventing a player from ignoring the mechanic by getting themself killed before it's an issue. The problem with this is if you were to die by zombies there's a good chance you go infected along the way, so you'd have to limit the penalty to only players above a certain infection rate (25%, 50%?) so that is only affects those that ignored infection

3 is more about making infection rise quicker and forcing the user to consume more medicine. Best part about this one is that the mechanic for chance to infect is already there, just needs some modifying. You'd have to cap the effect so you don't die from successive hits even if you have the health. Could be 1% increase for each hit chance capping at maybe 30%

4 is about reducing supply. Example of this would be a food recipes for honey and requiring antibiotics to be used in first aid crafting(probably give first aid kits 10% infection rate reduction)

5 is about making infection always have a downside, stage 1 has no downsides currently. Introducing a debuff like 10% reduced stamina cap or 15% less effectiveness from food and drink would give reason to use medicine earlier without making it life threatening. The debuff would be included in other stages as well.

Anyways they are just some ideas on how to make infection and medicine more important gameplay mechanics

Don't tell me you don't watch YouTube...

I feel so old now days. All these kids and their Youtubes, Discords, and Twitches for everything. Back in my day, we yelled at devs on ancient text forums the good old fashioned way. With angry ASCII images that broke 80% of the time because of the forum format spacing

I'm barely even joking, people and their discord links for everything. Why would I want to join a discord full of random people to see a build guide, just post what perks and gear you pick on a forum like a normal person. I don't want to speak with the other weirdos into the same things as me, I already have to deal with enough weirdos in my life by tolerating my own existence

Will the A19 things shown off be shared in this thread for people who don't watch streams to see them? I would greatly appreciate it.
Yes please, I second this for those who miss it for whatever reason.

Hopefully they record and we can watch it a million times scrounging for every little detail about A19....🤣

Well most people use discord for the text chat feature, not the voice chat feature. The text chat feature allows for quicker clarification on questions and answers. It's a superior method.

Think of it like IRC, but for noobs.

On the Infection/Injury/Medical-Items bit. I'm wondering how many unique 'cures' there are now.

Current system is quite simple. General damage, curable via food/aloe cream/medicated bandages/pills/first aid kits, and Broken Leg, curable via a splint.

Plus Bleeding during a fight but medicated bandages & first-aid kits cure that, so no need to carry a unique cure.

Right now I doubt many folks always carry splints. Pretty easy to learn what'll cause a broken leg and simply avoid getting one right?

And even if you do break a leg, if you're sporting any vehicle the impact is fairly trivial usually.

While I tend to think TFPs are normally sensitive to not designing things to force players to always have to carry X, due to backpack limitations, I'm curious to see if there might not be a couple 'new' items most will decide they have to pack along in a19.

Considering how broad "Medical" is in Emyprion, taking 3-4+ slots(?), I hope we aren't going to see the same here. I mean unless TFPs add in hovercraft with massive storage to pack it all around. That'd be ok.  :biggrin1: (jk'ing of course)

I just wanted to let you guys know that the Streamer Weekend is tentatively scheduled to start June 26th. I just gave that date to the streamers and know that many will begin hyping it to their viewers and then it would get back to here and then you guys would be upset that you had to hear about it from outside sources. So I'm telling you now that Friday June 26th is our hopeful date but it isn't guaranteed. If TFP feels they must delay another week then they will.

But that means that Monday June 29th should be a VERY GOOD DAY. (knock on wood)

June 26th is my birthday, I appreciate the gesture :)

Either way it means they're getting almost ready for experimental.

That's nice and they actually did it in a reasonable amount of time, considering COVID-19 and the quarantine problems.

I mean, it's not like they need to travel much to make the game... but there have been a lot more RL problems messing up everyone's lives lately. 😷

Great news ! Roland, can you give us some broad figures about how the super early experimental went? Number of people who opted-in, number of new bugs that it helped fixing, stuff like that. I guess the stability of 19.0 should be way better than all previous x.0 versions, for a lot more people have already tested it.

Yeah, I scanned the names and hours played on the tester candidates...

I would say, we are in good hands with that group!

i love how they are updating the game only thing i wish they wouldnt reduce so much of the perks the amount of diffrent perks makes it funner when lvling and developing

your char i understand changing the perks up but reducing seems like it will make it less customizable for each persons char and making it more for the below average gamer

rather then the pones who like the game for its conent

They don't reduce the numbers of perks. Mostly, they rebalance a lot of them so that they only have 3 ranks instead of 5. If anything it means a lot more diversity because in A18 a lot of perks didn't seem like they were worth investing 5 points in, compared to combat related perks and "must haves".
