I was, frankly, addicted to sugar. At the time i went under the knife, I had 4 12-packs of Mt Dew, and 2 2-liters of Mt Dew in the fridge. They were the first things I got rid of when I got released from hospital.
Yesterday, as I was feeling that maybe I had gone too far working on lowering my blood sugar levels, and purging all the built up layers of excess sugars, I ate 2 slices of "Un-French toast", but even then, my morning BS was 100.
This morning, even though I broke my fast between midnight (when I took my injection), and when I took my reading at 8am, my BS was 98.
I've been mostly eating salads everyday since the amputation, no rice, no breads, no cereal, and most assuredly, no Pop. I drink cinnamon bark tea in the mornings, and protein shakes at lunch & maybe dinner.
I'm doing my best to get myself free of sugars, carbs, and starches.
I was 5 weeks of no weight bearing on the foot, and after that I was okay to walk again. This was true for both when I just had the big toe amputated, and for when the rest of my toes were amputated. But it depends on how quickly you heal.
Was this also caused by diabetes/blood sugar levels?
The important part is that it's healed such that you're not in danger of having the stitches/wound sight come apart from walking on it.
My surgeon told me after the operation, that most folks would have the vacuum pump for 2-3 months, but that, at the rate my foot was healing, I wouldn't need it that long.
I'm hoping that I can walk again soon after the skin graft.
