New forums

I think it makes it easier to briefly read first post to see if its something you want to read further about. It also allows users to set up their tutorials to include attractive images for their tutorial to stand out.
For people who like that kind of setup, I'm sure it's fine. But to me, it's just confusing and doesn't look good. Images aren't sized properly, making them only partial images, which looks bad. Videos show as a broken image. There's a ton of blank space because everything is the same height as the tallest one on the line, so things with images mess up the look for things without images. And trying to quickly scan through to find something specific isn't easy. You can't look down a single line because it's two columns, and you have to scroll a lot more to see the same number of items as if it was a forum thread list. Some of those things could be improved if the people writing those put in the effort to set them up to fit the way that setup is, but of course we can't edit stuff after a couple of hours, so that's not going to happen with anything that's already been made.

Anyhow, that's just my opinion, but I definitely won't be looking there for tutorials. I'd rather look it up on Google and avoid that layout entirely.

The only other small thing I noticed is the names of the mods/devs are the same as us lowly peasants. It was nice to see the gold name colors and know that they were replying to a question or updating us on something. Unless I am just missing something, which happens a lot...
Looks like they have added the colors now. Looks good.

When I read threads, they don't change from bold to normal. They remain in an "unread" status. I need to manually mark all threads as read from the button on the top right.

Are you using your back button after reading a thread? I've noticed that it doesn't refresh the page when you press back the way the old forum did, so you still see things as being unread. If you instead click on the forum link at the top, that shouldn't happen.

That's it... Thanx

Not trying to be rude, but when looking for a tutorial the title should tell someone all they really need to know. They don't need to stand out. And as Riamus pointed out, with some having images and some not, it makes it look not so great. Just giving feedback, it is still usable as is. Some things to get used to, but overall liking these new forums. You think we'll get the OG theme back or will you guys cook up something new? Also appreciate you commenting and providing thoughts and taking feedback into consideration. Always good to see more devs active here. :)

Oh, another thing I just remembered: these forums don't seem to automatically merge your posts if you make a few in the same thread in quick succession like the old forums. Will that be coming back? Sometimes I see one post and make a reply and then see another post immediately after that I want to reply to. I realized when I did it just now in the dev diary it doesn't combine posts anymore.

This was a built in feature for IPS and xenforo doesn't support it out of the box that I can find. Haven't been able to find a plugin yet that does this, but yes I also was finding it annoying.

Edit: Added

We’ve discovered a few threads went missing due to errors in the migration process. If anyone has noticed important threads or other content from the old forum missing here, please let us know right away. By the end of the week, we’re looking to make all links to https://community.7daystodie.com/ redirect to this new site, meaning the old site will no longer be available.
Might be late for this, but is there a possibility of migrating the old private messages? I had typed up some extensive details on how to do things for a couple of people and it would be nice if those were preserved.

It looks like they were migrated as I see them in the database. Not sure why they aren't showing in the UI. Will need to look into that.
Post automatically merged:

Ah, click the mail icon then show all at the bottom and they will be listed there.

Ah, that was it. Thanks!

You know what I'm missing from the old forums?
The line telling you where the new unread messages start from.
This one takes you to the last unread page but I have not noticed a clear indicator of who I read last.

It seems to take me to the most recent post, though it sometimes seems to be off just a little, allowing the one before to be half visible, making you wonder if that was read or not. When I clicked this thread, it brought me to your post and not the beginning.

I agree. The line was a clear indicator that is standard across many apps. There is an indicator, though. I'd rather have the line...

I think the "new" is new. 😁

I'm beginning to wonder if Brains is watching for us to say what is missing and then silently add it and then make us think we were just blind. Lol!

So we are blind. Always good to know. 😁

Btw, not sure if this is something you have control over, but on my Samsung SG21+, if I am replying, I can't scroll down far enough to see the reply/save button unless I close the on screen keyboard. I think it is because there is not enough space below those buttons to allow scrolling far enough.

Also, if I select a word on the first line and then try to use bold or italics buttons, I have to be really quick because it pops up the cut/copy/paste options right on top of those buttons. Very minor things, but I didn't have those issue with the old forum, so maybe they can be fixed.

I'm on an honor, so might be different; try zooming in (real tight, but it's a hack :) ), the copy-options don't scale, while the page-buttons should.
