(V1 Series) Vehicle Madness (Updated November 24th 2024)

Thanks for the kind words glad to know its working well with loads of other mods installed we try to keep it compatible as much as possible.

Yeah finding a working vehicle spawned in the world is very problematic since A20 onwards so unfortunately for now it has been dropped.

Looking at other ways moving forwards though so maybe it will return at some point .

Ragsy !!

Hey love the mod. But coming across an odd issue. Whenever i run the game with vehicle madness my texture quality drops to a very low resolution. If i remove vehicle madness everything goes back to normal. Any ideas?

Glad you like it , sorry for late reply on this question.

Have you tried Vehicle Madness on its own without other mods installed ??  although going on the last post its compatible running along side other mods.

What sort of graphics card do you have ?

maybe try reducing the texture quality setting down to medium ... I am sure there is another setting in the video options that helps with the issue .  When I remember I will post up again .

Ragsy !!

I'm relatively new to this mod, and I've run into an issue that I can't quite figure out.

* I found a Workshop Van that is repairable, but I can't find a restoration kit for it.

* There is a WS Van Restoration Kit, but when I tried to use that kit, it didn't work.

Is there a different kit that I should be using?

Thank you,

Aaron

I checked this out and it works fine for me with the 'correct tool' shown below ,  but you raise a good point as the tool description says Van 2 and not Workshop Van .

This is the tool for the Workshop van ..... not to be confused with 'The Working Stiffs Van (WS Van Restoration Tool)',  I will change the descriptions for both in the next update to reflect this as i can see how this could confuse people ..

Awesome, Thank you so very much!!!!

Ragsy,

Another question for you: Are the vehicles dye-able?

* I'm playing a server with others, and we're trying to differentiate whose beetle is whose. I tried putting dyes on mine, but I'm not seeing any changes show on the beetle.

Thank you,

Aaron

Due to the fact a lot of vehicles have our own custom apocalptic textures not all have dye's in fact only a handful have mainly the white vehicles but not all.

Well, I gotta say: the textures you chose are awesome!

Thank you for your work on this.

ok so two things:

1: im an idiot and didnt realize the mod was in a nested folder in the zip file, so me extracting it as normal only pulled the vehicle-madness-main folder, not the one inside that has the actual mod stuff. so no vehicles spawned for me and im already a decent bit in, so no new worlds.

2: this is more of a question with an assumed answer, but im guessing since the above happened, im kinda S.O.L. on on the hole mod, or can i still craft the ones i want? im ok if thats the case and the repairables dont exist. speaking of the repairables, will they spawn in if i have chunk resets turned on? id assume not, but figured id double check.

1.  Gitlab does not nest the files and it is a 'windows zip' program behaviour which is a bit annoying but I am glad you figured that out.

2.  I would not recommend Installing Vehicle Madness after you start a new world save as strange things may happen further into your gameplay session that not i can not forsee . In practice it may work if your initial world generation had the 'chunk reset' option enabled but again I do not recommend this at all or support it as you may find weird things happening.

Testing :

I tested this with a brand world save with 'chunk reset' enabled from the very start of the game at 10 days.   I ran up game without Vehicle Madness installed initially and then came out of the game a few 'game hours' later and then added Vehicle Madness to the game it started up with no errors.

After i had spent a few hours in the vanilla world I had created I moved from the from 'forest' to 'burnt' area then you do then see the VM vehicle blocks appearing in that burnt zone including in my testing I found a 'Repairable Brown Jeep'  block made the restoration tool and it was spawned into the game OK.  I could see all the craftable vehicles and make them in the VM Workbench as well.

Blocks seemed lootable and salvageable giving VM specific parts as well,  after game world day 10  then moved back to the initial area i had in the forest and VM vehicle blocks appeared in that area all be it about 400 blocks away from my initial base .

Again I will state that it appeared to work fine  but you may later in the game find weird things happening so carry on at your own risk .

Hey, that's good enough for me. Lol. I'm willing to take the chance, as I love this mod. Worst case I lose a level 20 character and have to play till day 11 again (my poor maxed cooking skill), or they don't spawn for me at all. If I do notice any odd things, I'll drop them here for posterity's sake and for "huh, so that's what happens" stuff, but I will fully expect no help from the resulting brokerage.

Again, that is for all the effort and the prompt response ragsy. :)

Ok thanks for relieving my responsibilities on the matter  🙂  I do however wish you real luck in your playthrough.

Next update to VM is not far away and dependant on when V1.1 comes out of Experimental,  lots of bug fixes and added more visual mods so now nearly 50% of the vehicles have some mod options.   We have also added a new block to world spawns a repairable short school bus as we did not have one in the past.

Also still looking to replace a few vehicles with better models as we go .....  newest edition is my lovely shiney Mustand Mach1 (1970) model in an apocaliptic style

If you would like to see a certain current Vehicle Madness vehicle available as a repairable now is the time to put in a suggestion.

Looks great.  You know, with your avatar, you should add a DeLorean.  :D
A few other modders have done a 'BTTF' Delorean over the last few alphas even myself and Tiger worked on one together for our A Team Modlets but backed off a bit seeing all the others on Nexus.

For those about to ask ........Vehicle Madness should still be working fine in V1.1 but there is an update due very soon featuring those vehicles above and bug fixes so hopefully will get that out in next few days as the 'new official V1.1 Version' .

Well, took me long enough, but I've finally tried out this mod.  I wish I had a lot sooner because it really makes the game look so much better and driving the different vehicles is fun.

Can I make a suggestion, though?  I only tried about 8-10 of the vehicles to see how they compare and I noticed that the horn sounds are not always what I'd expect.  It's fine if most cars have the plain car horn sound, but the semis shouldn't use that sound, imo.  I noticed you have an APC (I'm not sure the actual name off the top of my head) that has a deep horn sound.  I think that would work well for the semis.  As I said, I didn't try many and most were cars, so I don't know if any others have odd horn sounds for the specific vehicle.

Also, how rare is it to find a repairable bicycle?  I see you give a repair kit at start, but I was flying around all over the place checking out the vehicles and I never saw a single bicycle (repairable or otherwise).

Thanks for trying out the mod and glad you are enjoying it so far.  🙂

The repairable bicycle will be available in the biome spawns as well as roads in V1.1 when it is released , it was noted that the repairable bicycle was a bit rare and harder to find by Mr Devolver during the V1.1 version testing phase's and did negate the fact you had the free repair tool on spawn in to a new game.

The vehicle horn sounds did get some attention too for V1.1 and the Semi's do have new horn sounds moving forward ,   there are some stranger horn sounds on a few vehicles that where left in since the A19 Alpha release.

Vehicle Madness for Version 1.1

A new version is now released for Version 1.1 with feature updates and some bug fixes .

The older version for V1.0 still works fine in V1.1 so we strongly advise that you apply this update when you have finished a current playthrough as the new version adds a few more blocks that will more than likely mess up your current save .   So be warned up front

This is a Gitlab 'ZIP' Download link.

Hello! I installed VM yesterday on a new save, but most of the items don't show their icons.

For example: the default 7D2D Car Batteries, VM Wire Cutters, VM Wheels, Carburetors .
Is there anything I can do about this, or to understand what is causing them to not show up?
