https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2202714812 This design is a bit risky, as you have to stay inside the center part during the horde event or you'll quickly find zombies beating on the walls. It could stand to be built a bit bigger (wider) than shown, too. It's endlessly vertically scalable, but you won't get too much more meaningful horde fighting utility for building it any higher (you can however have someone toss mollys or something from the second floor).
Hollow cubes and ladders for base defense
In my first 1.0 run, I set up in a Budget Barrows that had the oil tank out back and I ran the zombies up the oil tank and across the bridge. The images here are from a recent horde night although I have since moved to the Jeffelon Zuckergates Estate with the aid of 100 steel shapers from a trader mission. So I like ladders. I also like the hollow squares because I can usually shoot through them (I stood near the robosledge and, to my surprise, it killed some vultures for me): Daytime prep: Nighttime in action:
Everything is too bright.
World Lighting Tuned 1.0 https://www.nexusmods.com/7daystodie/mods/5422 This mod aims to correct that in a meaningful way by emphasizing realism, gameplay balance, and horror survival immersion. I've tuned the inside and outside world lighting values for both day and night to give an overall darker experience, fit for a zombie apocalypse survival game.
Terrain Sculpting
I started with a solid block of desert ground measuring 100 wide x 150 long buy 30 thick, and carved out a decent canyon over time with the Dev Shovel tool. Adjusted some of the density of certain areas that didn't seem to look right, so now I can start building my Hidden Canyon. Too bad the Bandits are not ready but I can add them in the future. **note I added two small trees and a small area of water at the bottom...
