PC Your views on the new dungeon system - new POIS vs old POIS

hi all

just wanted to start a general chat on your views regarding the new dungeon POIS.. Are you a fan of the new system, I mean who doesn't want to wade through 3 floors of cloth and pipes ... being met by selfish zombies not dropping anything to find the only desk in the building isn't a lootable one... finally the joy of getting into that attic to have a feral hand you your ass, sending you back to your bed - gahhhh! … I know, it sounds like a gripe... its really not.

Personally I am not a fan of the new dungeon system, I know, I know, we don't have to follow the intended developer route, but knowing its there makes my inner OCD twin twitch. I really wish that the POIS could be left alone.. make new ones or make copies, give them the dungeon make over and rename them but leave us both versions in game or just don't make every building a dungeon! I want to be able to walk up to the jones's, smash Mrs jones back door in and take what I want! of course without having to complete a maze first.

I also know that the DEVS have worked their backsides off to bring us something they feel proud of, and they really have, just don't change everything we love about the game! ..

the new AI is great, I'm having a blast testing it... though I would appreciate being able to chop the zombies up a little or at least have a few more heads explode.

the new textures are fantastic, the game looks even more polished and the system overhauls are a fine piece of work, although they do need some further balancing and gating the ability to make a fish pie to die for is plain stupid.

take a leaf out of the modders books... give us more items, trees that bare fruit.. better farming mechanics (pests) vermin … infrastructure - being able to build working sinks, baths showers - ammo press - great traps that zombies don't automatically walk away from! .. you know swinging boulders - falling rocks - fire traps - noose traps … add the element of surprise! also put some depth into the character.. I'm sorry but although being punched in the chops might smart a little, it wouldn't cause outright infection, make us suffer a little... and tinned food giving you food poisoning? isn't that the reason we process it in the first place?

anyway I digress.. please feel free to leave a reply, how do you play your game, what would you include/remove? want to see implemented? what do you hate/like the most?

it just seems we currently walk (smash our way) into any building... take two steps across the floor only to have it fall in sending us crashing into the basement with 30 ass eating zombies, very frustrating to say the least - this for me is game breaking without the game actually being broken.

Yeah, you really digressed all over the place :p

I love the new POIs. My feelings are mixed about how they are more dungeonlike, but I definitely love the look and variety of them.

Haven't really had a problem with the floors. Still get the odd building collapses when I get near it, but that's a bug.

Maybe some of the flooring is related, it happens to friends I play with and of course not when I am in the same POI.

My own experience otherwise is I think it's an intended trap and you learn to be careful where you walk.

I'm loving the way it is now. There are smaller houses, cabins, and other poi's that aren't built into the dungeon crawls that I hit up in the first few days for loot I know I need like pots and such. I agree a mix would be best, maybe make the loot in the dungeon crawl buildings always have a bonus or something so there is real incentive to go after them. Although many of the dungeons have a bunch of valuable loot containers at the end.

yeah, I do tend to go off on a tangent... XD

Honestly, my post does sound a little ranty but its not, I am truly loving everything and yes, I was talking about the floor traps... does every house really need one? I guess its my play style, I run in smack everything I can and run back out to face them outside

I like the new POIs but dislike zombie behavior in them. Hiding motionless inside a cabinet? So zeds play hide and seek now? Can't have it all I guess.

I like some of the PoIs, namely the simpler ones. I dislike the elaborate death traps designed specifically to kill you when you are low level. I feel that they miss the mark as you will only fall for them exactly once. As you become high enough level with all the appropriate tools, you can simply smash your way directly to the prize bypassing all that effort completely.

Oh, I didn't think you were being ranty per se, more just giving your general feedback on the whole patch.

I usually stealth through so I'm spending more time being aware than I would if I leroy'd it (not that I don't enjoy that too, played A16 that way) or I'd be falling through them all too. The houses they probably are a bit over abundant. Other POIs they seem just enough to keep you on your toes.

Of course we have no idea how long ago the apocalypse was, if it was recent then they had some really ♥♥♥♥ty contractors building flooring.

yes! absolutely - i just started building a ton of wooden frames and just nerd pole all the way up, kill the ferals from the roof and claim my prize of 7 paper and an iron pipe lol (starter loot)... maybe change the building material to concrete or something harder to blow through might stop it.

lol nice reference to a game that was ruined completely .. vanilla was amazing.. digressing again .. but yes, it would have been awesome to have some back story on 7 days.. I mean its groundhog day with a dash of amnesia … and a little road trip and home alone thrown in. I have certainly seen some bad contractors in the past but these guys are something else lol but I have been guilty of building a few floors/ceilings that have ended up smacking me in the face because I hadn't put up pillars

O.o that's how zeds play it, didn't you get the email? .. nods and i totally agree, tbh they would have had to climb in, close the door ect.. but firing an arrow at the door on the approach destroys it revealing any would be sneaky zombies

nods.. I totally agree on the smaller buildings but as Reth said .. once you progress even a little, you will just smash your way straight to the prize bypassing all the headache... O.o unless they make the buildings from the same secret stuff the traders use... forcing you to complete the entire maze to achieve the prize? hmmm ponders the very thought of that one

Oh yeah!

TFP would have to find a REAL underground bunker to hide in for awhile.

It makes more sense if you think of it as "person crawled into the closet to hide, died, turned into zed"

The forums would riot lmao
Yeah, that would suck. It's bad enough the trader gets to be invulnerable in what would be a totally fun style of base to defend if the zeds wouldn't just wreck it in minutes.

The new POIs are the best thing in A17. Their dungeon design team need a freaking raise or four.

I'm not saying they are a bad thing, and they are well planned...just don't make every house a dungeon. well, not unless we get longer days and larger pockets.. yeah yeah inventory management, but I want it all -.- no, i still want some larger buildings that you just go into and ransack.. its fun

This is exactly how Empyrion's PoIs are structured. You have to go through them once trying to avoid all the deadly traps, reach the very end, destroy the core and then you can disassemble the entire PoI into useful materials. Tons and tons of fun and very rewarding once you reach the final prize. Nobody seems to object. Players enjoy it immensely.

Problem is, hidden turrets, invisible trap doors and mob spawn points make total sense in a SciFi environment. Not so much in a zombie apocalypse environment.

ok point taken, i suppose your right about hiding in a closet … would be a cool idea to not have the trader protected making it your job to protect him/her while youre there??

i don't know, now having a hidden turret with crappy aiming or a well hidden blade trap in a house would be a cool feature...something left by its last occupants! knife trap maybe... marbles that trip you into a basement … trip wires all stuff that people in a real world would set up as a last defense
