Yes, I am guilty, I bought into it.

They're visual only; you get no stats, nor armor from them. So you do need a set of regular armor for the effects.

And I haven't tested if you can cover up a naked character with the visuals, not something that comes across in normal gameplay. Wouldn't be surprised either way.

You do need armor on for the cosmetic to apply.

Edit; at least the in-game cosmetics. Don't have DLC.

Cosmetic DLC is not for everyone. It's okay if you don't feel compelled to buy it. Some will buy it to support the games development.

Others may buy it because they enjoy the game in multiplayer and would like to have the additional looks to show off with their buddies. When we get third person view support, single players will get more out of it then as well.

Cosmetic DLCs are also great stocking stuffers for special occasion, gift them to friends who play the game.

Something also to keep in mind, these DLC armors are almost exclusively worked on by our artists.

It is normal game development to have additional tasks like these when they are done with their other art tasks (e.g. bandit models). Otherwise they would just be reallocated to other projects.

Its not like artists can shift over to programmering to fix code bugs or level design and make POIs...

I would think gun skins would be more profitable.
I agree. at least we see the guns. :)
skins can be a fun way to support a game...people been asking for new guns. I fully understand why some see this as a Slippery slope they don't want any part of.
My problem(s) with the first DLC offerings is that we saw them during the pre launch dev streams....and the ridiculous price... and that and console has no third person...or the ability to dye the armour to really personalize it.
It does feel like they are putting the cart before the horse...to me. I hope they read this as constructive because It is meant that way.

No one has third person, outside of using console commands. Supposedly it's being worked on.
Honestly thought PC could...well...that makes them even less "useful" right now for everybody.
With all the things they have to work on... third person is not something I need right away. It would/will be nice but not a necessity for me anytime soon.

Back when SWG came out, and Sony (agh) asked what would players prefer most, character customization won above all else.

I like it. Again, I cant beat the value. Considering that I have hundreds invested in SC with less hours of play time at the moment.

so you're saying that you can have any dlc outfit right away at level 1 no struggle looking for new clothes? whats the point of even making fiber outfit other than lite armor if you can just magically have new clothes?....uhhgg i hate the armor system...

It has no stats, so it offers no protection, It has zero impact on the gameplay, it´s purely cosmetic.

The truly scary thing is the amount of people rolling up in this forum or elsewhere asking what the stats are for something purely cosmetic. Idk how else it needs to be said that the DLC stuff doesn't have stats on it whatsoever. But I guess people don't read patch notes to see the new cosmetic option added in 2.0.

Well, I do like the hoarder armor/costume set :).

I bought the game in 2021 for 7.49 and just added another 6.74.

I think I am still way ahead.
Individuals boasting about the frequency with which they purchased 7d2d might as well tally the tricks they done for the game.
Yes i referred to them as tricks as it is common knowledge that the entire premise of 7d2d and its history is rooted in a pimp philosophy,
encompassing everything from the character adorned with a pimp hat that greets you at the game's start screen to one of the primary Twitch developers donning his pimp hat during broadcasts. So, sir i applaud you for the tricks you have turned.

If it makes you feel any better. According to my steam account, I bought 7D2D in 2014 for $29.74....;)
yeah.. funny that.. I bought it back in '18, says i got it for 25.. but it was more like 10..
crazy that it's 45 now.. glad I got in when i did..
