Xbox X -- "continue game" is greyed out and cannot be clicked on to load and play.

Sooooo idk if this’ll help narrow down the cause of this bs but i got on, loaded the world as normal, played for like 5 minutes but then had to restart my console for something unrelated so i quit the game and let everything load completely and waited till i was at the main menu, then as soon as the main menu loaded i restarted, now i come back to a grey continue game button and a broken heart hope that helps..

I don't know if this will help, But each post points to data sync
or corruption issue. The second constant is after an update. Which is
an interruption in data transport, which can cause corruption.

1 It may be possible that cloud sync in game setting got switched
off. Check the settings menu for 7 days to see if cloud save is on.
Don't assume settings stayed the same as before an update. In the
past few version updates I had to go in and reset some of my preferences
and I'm on a pc, but don't hold that against me.

2 Is a copy of your save in the cloud, if yes then you can delete the
local save, turn off the xbox, and log back into the network and the game
it should redownload the save file to your console. So if there is a difference
in a check bit it should match now.

3 If its on the hd and not in cloud storage, then you can manually copy it to
the cloud. Logoff shut down start up logon try logging into the game. to see if it
fixed the issue.

These are the only possible answers I have at the moment I hope they help.

As far as I can see there is no option in-game to turn on and off cloud saves unless I'm blind

I know how to do this on PS5 but I don't have an Xbox so the following text is what I have copied from the Xbox cloud FAQ:
You can manage your data for individual games through My games & apps on your Home screen. Here's how:

  1. On Home, select My games & apps.
  2. Highlight the game, press the Menu  button on your controller, then select Manage game & add-ons.
  3. Select the Saved data box, then choose the item you want to delete.

Hope this helps you where to look.

A couple people on a reddit post I made had a very similar ‘possible’ reasoning for this happening. They all used drones at some point while specifically on a multiplayer server and the next day this happened. That’s exactly what happened to me aswell, I found a drone in loot and I used it on a multiplayer server and the next day that bug hit me. I know you have narrowed it down to what could be causing it, but hey it doesn’t hurt to throw some new possible causes out. They may have absolutely nothing to do with the bug, it’s just odd how we all had that happen a day after using a drone on a multiplayer server

Weird, I have been using a drone for a while now

I have the same issue. Started today 1/08/2025. Started the game, Got the eula, singed it title screen came up with the search bar, and continue game was grayed out, and could not start a new game. I had not used a drone at all. Also located in U.S. Ohio. X box series x console. I can get over my save being gone. But I can't get over not being able to play at all when I payed for this game.

Update

I deleted my local saved data and restarted my xbox. Started the game, it synced from the cloud but issue still remained. Continue game grayed out, couldn't start a new game. So I just deleted local, and cloud saved data. Restarted the console. I don't have access to my saves but at least I am able to start a new game now.

I second this

Same happened to me today. Using a Xbox series x. Did a new user agreement and now the continue button is grayed out. My local save is showing 9 MB only when before it was about 500mb. I’m located in New Mexico. This was a multiplayer game I hosted with one more Xbox player and one PlayStation user. We have been using drones for about two weeks without any issues.

Тhat doesn’t always work for people and when it does work the fix is only temporary as you’ll encounter this stupid bug again

I second this
Again people are saying this “fix” is only temporary

Not the point, the person didn't know how to do this so I tried to help him where to find it.
I have a solution for you that works: Upgrade to PS5 or PC.

[ConsoleWarsTrollModus off]

I had this issue a little over 2 weeks ago.
I could resolve it by deleting all my local save files and reload from the cloud.
I haven't run into any issues since.....🙄

Just had same issue last night.  Xbox Series X, I'm in USA, Colorado, 2 multiplayer games.  Unable to continue game, received and accepted the EULA when starting the game.  Symptoms all the same, EULA, Continue Game greyed out.  2 Saves are showing in Manage Saves.  When select a saved world and go over to players I can see the gamertags of the other players, but my name is a weird long number.  Kind of surprised to have found this thread from early December and issue still ongoing.

Yall hang tight we're working on a fix attempt with xbox's save file system. For now, I would honestly suggest - if you have the issue - to delete the locally saved data if you're sure you've had a sync with the cloud storage (which automatically happens if you're online and load into the game). You want to keep your good saves in the cloud and not touched, so when the patch hits you can pull your (hopefully) good versions from the cloud and carry on as normal.

Unless I'm missing something, you can't disable automatic cloud uploads.

Just downloaded update, deleted saves a still have same issue with the text box on the screen and not able to create a new game and saved games greyed out.
