PC Why not have an ending?

Sounds like a story mode is the best option for everyone. Then it is choosen at the time

we make the map, like we already do with creative mode and survival mode.

Yeah, story mode, Im already have ideas about two endings, with story already present and after completing main chain quest when you entering trader :

a) Good ending - Pathetic congrats text "blah blah you find survivors, you're best", brave music, and titles runs.

b) Bad ending - after entering trader doors locks behind you, and endless zombies spawns. After your death - sad music, message "blah blah no more hope etc" and titles runs.

Not sure if this thread is still alive, but i am also sucker for defined ending. From my point of view, you are left there because of debt, so there are people living okey-ish somewhere. So why not have ending of leaving that hellhole, like in Conan Exiles - you do you, until you got enough, then do some minor steps and gate endgame cutscene of leaving.
My idea was reach max rep with traders and take reward:
1. (explorer type) get map to some buried POI like metro station, find location, dig into it, clean it from zombies and sit in metro to leave;
2. (base builder style) get extraction beacon or recipe to build it, survive horde after activation until some fancy military helicopter takes you away.
I think second one would make some people compete in base designs and character builds, like "this built survived final horde", or "this base crashed in first wave"...

As for RWG I don't think there are any plans to make it anything other than open ended. I'm sure they will add all kinds of content and make sure things are tuned to remain challenging in the later days. Random gen worlds are all about being open... beginning, middle and end, so I doubt that will change drastically.

Hallelujah! Can I get an AMEN!?

Considering the post before yours was over 7 years ago, no. You should avoid necroing posts and just make a new one. In any case, there will be a story (see the roadmap). That will create an "end" to the game, but you'll still be able to play the game after reaching that point. That story may only be in Navesgane since most people play this game over and over and over, so seeing the same story dozens of times will very quickly get boring.
