I would say that "getting bored" is really depends on what type of player you are. I would highlight some common categories of 7DTD players:
1. survival enjoyers
2. challenge seekers
3. RPG players (loot goblins)
Survival players have a hard time, because after few days the game become simple to survive regarding food, water or enviroment. Mods are the solution for these players.
Those looking for a challenge can be satisfied by brutal huge hordes, zombie Behemots and god knows what else.
I personally am ARPG player. I am playing 7DTD like Diablo game. Start with "white" pipe machine gun and zero stats, i am making progress to purple M60, max skills and gyrocopter. Once it's achieved, it is time for new game with new character.
Maybe some legendary "named" items to hunt could pick my interest?
I'm curious what will be the direction of the game in future.
