No it doesn't

It is.

Hint: Before loading your new or saved game hit F1 and watch the console messages, that will tell you if the game is considered modded.
I guess in 7DaystoDie land it means that, but I was taking it as a literal statement outside of just this game. Playing with a MOD since like 1993 meant running an executable that alters the game flow/logic rather than using a level editor to create a new level which wasn't considered a MOD, just a custom level/map.

If they store a CRC value statically in code or another XML file, check the CRC of the RWG XML file on load against the expected CRC (or more archaic, store all the values from the XML in a table and compare them on load) then they would be able to say on game start, "Yes this is modified"

Otherwise, how do they know I changes some values in the RGW xml and start "Modded" at game start? Time stamp on the file? Leveraging Steam file integrity to pass back a state to the game weather the files have been modified or not?

I'll try the F1 console to see if it says Modded based on only RGW XML file updates.

Changing the parameters of the RWG doesn't just create a custom level, it creates a custom level based on a modified rule set. Whatever was changed is not relevant - it could be smaller temperature range or no rain or flatter terrain. Since the rules of the new world differ from the rules of the default world, it is, therefore, a modded game.

There is only one place to draw a line here - pure vanilla vs everything else.

And, btw, they can compile that entire XML config directory into their main executable for comparison on startup. I don't think it's bigger than a few megs, this day and age it's not going to make a lot of difference size wise.

Playing A17 with console cheats and I'm probably gonna remove dogs, cops etc. with a mod too. I was looking forward to A17 so much, but man the game is no longer compatible with me. Literally all other alphas (now playing 8.8) bring me more joy, and I was really mad at some of the alphas along the road, so A17 being the first to force me to use cheats to enjoy it speaks volumes.

Yes, I edited some values in the random gen XML. Playing with a mod has a different meaning though, technically.Otherwise, editing the server.xml would be considered "playing with a mod".
No, you MODified the intended vanilla experience.

I would not call changing some graphical parameters a mod.If thats a mod, nearly every PC game is modded, by the user changing the graphics options..
Yours is much less so of a mod, but you still modded the intended experience. In your case, increasing visibility.

I have never felt the need to mod before, but decided to for A17. It just feels sluggish the first few days so I increased the starter quest skill points to 10. That said, I was terrified of my overall computer skills until I realized how easy it is to change a few things. When this gets balanced I'll probably stick with vanilla for the most part....

maybe.

Alpha 17 modded.

I've decreased zombie block damage and removed as much HUD as I can, otherwise left it alone.

Really enjoying this alpha. Just decided to renovate the small shopping outpost into a base.

I haven't modded in previous alphas much.

But the skillsystem and tedious beginning just broke the immersion, replayability and fun for me.

While waiting for learning by doing mods. I'm modding my game to be heavily based on RGN instead.

Magazines gives permanent perks point.

I added a new magazine that gives permanent attribute points.

And bags can be picked up and turned in to pack mule perks.

Lowered xp from zombies so gs won't skyrocket.

Now looting is fun again! And I really like the way I have to adapt to the hand I have been dealt.

I have plans to add perkmagazines to more suitable loot containers. Like master chef in top cupboards and so on.

A17 Vanilla when I play with my friend, which is most of the time. I'm looking at some mods for a single-player go just to add a few things to the HUD and change a few things I find tedious, but I haven't done that yet.

A17 vanilla for now, but it won't be long until I mod hunger/thirst in the UI and tweak some of the stack limits.

A17 modded - HQHD (improved my performance), Better Balance Mod (60 backpack BUT with encumbrance), few balancing items from Jax, SM420 UI, and SalvageBats (just cause they're awesome;) )

A17 modded - my family wants to play and not wait (stamina, food, drink ...). Without modding the fun to play is like taming in ark vanilla ;)

btw. thank you tfp for the great game and A17. Just stick to your own game slogan "The Survival Horde Crafting Game". There are already a lot off better RPGs but no "The Survival Horde Crafting Game".

I've kinda moved on again from the game. I could mod the game to prolong it, but i'm already pretty burned out on it. I am partly at fault for this as I've played it a bunch since exp. I've had several playthroughs now to end-game god mode. Been playing Project Zomboid lately.

When is A18 coming out?????? :p

Vanilla. Mostly because modding does nothing to help with the development, other than allowing devs be lazy (let the modders fix it) and add to the noise for feedback (feature is broken/unbalanced but game was modded). Once the game is out of development then I might consider mods for it. I understand that mods do let players extend the life of a game, or tweak it to their preference, but frankly overall most mods hinder the development more long term than they do benefit in the short term. I'll just move on to another game, be patient with the devs and wait for the next version to see how long I like playing it. 7DtD is sort of like Minecraft in that it's an easy game to put down and then pick up after while.
