PC V2.6 EXP

People forget that, since the game is still in development, ideas can change, devs could have change their mind on a certain feature that turned out as not working as well as they imagined it would, so it's back to the drawing board to make things better.

Example: In early talks, a wolf might have been an option as a companion and you could maybe add some pocket mods so that it can carry your stuff... It turned into the drone, who can carry your stuff and heal you and follow you around.

The game is in development, so even if someone might have said this or that in the pass, it means absolutely nothing as new ideas probably came up or they changed that certain feature into something very different than what they first mentioned some years ago.
The argument of "well Madmole (or anyone else) said this many years ago" is not worth much; he said that then and he's saying this now.

As most people I'm sure, I live in the Now and not in the Pass, so lets just wait and see what 7 Days to Die brings to us in the Future.

We were specifically talking about the reason(s) temperature was removed a few years ago and if "temporary removal" was told to us. FOR THAT question it is absolutely necessary to look at what was said by them a few years ago and not at all what is said now.

Now, whether they would actually have added temperature again if they weren't prodded, that is a different question and the answer we will never know

Yes sorry, I quoted you but meant the recent talks in general. Quoting you was a mistake as I was giving my general opinion on all the recent posts and not just that specific subject. I corrected this already.

I for one visit this thread specifically for news on the 2.6 release.
I should not have to peruse 4 pages of off topic back and forth.
That said, is there any news on the 2.6 stable release?
13 days ago, it was said that 2.6 Stable was close to being released, but it seems they decided to add more fixes, which can only be a good thing, right? So that could mean a new Experimental release before Stable, maybe... Or Stable could be released today... Who the hell knows anymore?!?

and since then:
Today I found that a chunk mesh generation visual improvement that went into 2.5, was using a lot of temporary memory, which caused the memory garbage collector to run often. That causes big lag spikes every few seconds. I have a fix and we are planning on getting another build out.

Today I did another bug fix they wanted, so that was merged over, but stable is close. "Fixed Road texture blending on low settings when a new world is first loaded."

Thats 2 builds (at minimum if nothing came out of testing the build.) So we are looking at b12 minimum if no other test releases happened. Considdering b10 is latest_experimental, there will be at least a b12 experimental. TFP has NEVER skipped an experimental release when higher than current experimental release. So forget stable. There will be another exp release before a stable.

hope for the best and expect the worse, The best scenario for me would be another month of them fixing bugs before they release it.

During that timeframe, numerous items and assets were removed without any explanation. Consequently, everyone has developed their own theories regarding the reasons behind the removal of so many items.
What timeframe? What items? What assets? They hired new artists to overhaul the world and all the decorations, inventory item art, entity models, and added hundreds of block shapes and POIs. What did you see completely disappear?

Your theory is wrong. No assets in the game belonged to any employee.

Correct me if I'm wrong, as a console player, I don't have access to experimental, but I've not seen any release notes from the experimental build releases that I've been used to seeing on previous experimentals.
As a console player, it's informative to see how many experimental builds are being released, and the fixes.
Instead, since the initial announcement, there's been silence as to the builds currently in testing.

They don't release experimental notes unless an experimental's been released. No new 2.6 experimentals have been released yet since the current one.

I personally want to list everything I’ve lost as a player.
  • A lot of zombie variants, like farmers, miners, hunters, cheerleaders (and even these annoying football players).
  • Wellness system, which encouraged players to avoid death more than anything we have today.
  • LBD
  • Blunderbuss
  • Dense morning fogs, old biome ambience.
  • Fields biome with wild corn and some cacti.
  • Real farming, which required a hoe to till the soil.
  • Visible casual clothing like t-shirts, coats, jackets, dusters, denim pants, and anything else a person could actually find and wear.
  • Character customization with sliders for body and face parts.
  • Crafted armor, like padded, leather and iron set without class-specific bonuses.
  • And most importantly, Sexual T-Rex 🫡
I won’t say these features were removed for no reason. But let’s be honest: the removals were most likely due to a shift in the game’s development direction and simplification of everything. The reason behind it could be anything: technical difficulties, optimization, a change in the developers' thinking, a desire to appeal to a broad audience or attempt of rushing the 1.0 release (so they no longer have to call the game an alpha and can meet the requirements to publish the game on consoles). Only TFP team members know the reason for sure, but I never saw them explaining the necessity of any of aforementioned removals.

I'm afraid that temperature was re-added in it's intended simplified form in 2.0 - the linear biome progression with timers, badges, and smoothies. Thankfully, they changed their minds and started listening to the players.

I feel your pain but none of those things on your list fit what Grandpa Minion was claiming disappeared without explanation during the timeframe of the last couple of years. I’m not disputing that the game has seen cuts and changes. I don’t doubt that people hate it when something they enjoyed gets the axe. Both the cuts and the disappointment that results is normal for any development project.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your list.

You don’t have to be afraid any longer. That theory is just not true. Temperature was not added back in at all in 2.0– simplified or otherwise.

But it was awful, because you'd have to have it to make some shapes, and if you wanted to use them to build your base but didn't have a table saw yet, you couldn't.

I much prefer being able to use whatever shape I want whenever I want. Maybe if it made somehow "better" shapes it might be worth having back.

I would like it if the table saw allowed us to make things that aren't craftable right now, like house doors or wooden tables, and maybe some of the more "advanced" items like garage doors.

Or, maybe it can make wooden planks, which are required to craft those things. If so, maybe those stacks of planks that you see at construction sites could give planks instead of just wood, which would allow you to craft a few things without the table saw.

Just throwing out ideas. I do agree that it shouldn't be required to craft basic wooden shapes though.

These things disappeared without any public explanation during the last couple of years, and I haven’t seen any evidence to the contrary. If there is an explanation of necessity of these removals from TFP team, please share a link or screenshots cuz I’d be very interested to read about it.

It would be great if they added crafting recipes for all chairs, windows, nightstands, cupboards, and other furniture to the sawtable. That would make a lot of sense and provide a convenient workstation for crafting decorative objects, without filling a crafting queue on the workbench or in your inventory where you always craft stacks of ammo, traps and aloe cream.

Now that is something I can see as a good reason for a table saw workstation.

How many is a couple? Most of those disappeared before I started playing, back in A20. 1.0 has been out for over a year and a half. A20 was over 4 years ago. So we're talking more than a couple of years for most of that. Doesn't mean it wasn't removed, but what was being discussed by them was recent items.

Regarding temperature, I remember seeing (reading or watching) information about it being temporarily removed to be reworked. As far as the rest, they don't have to explain why they do things. They can, and in some cases do, but it's not required. Whether or not we know why they make a change doesn't change whether they had a reason for the change.

And most importantly, Sexual T-Rex
The effects of T-rex are all included in every melee weapon/tool perk.
The only way I ever see T-rex coming back is they put it in the general tree, but this will also mean more skill points will be required (I assume 6+ points total to max out) then we currently do.

Personally, including T-rex in every melee skill was the right call, saving points and allowing us to use less stamina for the weapons/tools we perk into.
