V2.5+ Survival Revival Dev Diary

Jokes aside I'm 90% sure I saw like 300 subscriber channels on the streamer weekend in 2.0 but I might be merging the bloodmoons early access with the 7dtd streamer weekend in my brain.
2.0 Streamer Weekend details:

"Fans will have a wealth of options to see all the new features & content of V2.0:
3 days of streaming
500+ streamers
48+ countries represented
20+ languages spoken"

i went and watched your How Did we get here history video on 7d2d and really thought you did a super job on it.
although i would argue a17 quest sytsem changed the game for the worse not the better.
Glad you liked it. I'd say the quest system is mostly positive because it is an entirely optional mechanic. You can certainly argue that you're punished for not using it but as far as I'm concerned if a mechanic is entirely optional it's not really making the game worse. Now an entire progression system based on reading magazines with no other way to improve crafting skill, that is...difficult to avoid (though not impossible tbf)

one or both of us is very confused. I was referring to the number of subscribers the channels had, you seem to be highlighting the number of channels in the streamer weekend. I don't see the link.

That's what you get for posting when too tired. I re-read it and get what you meant now.
So yes, a combination of subscribers from Twitch and YouTube would count for the total amount needed to be part of the Streamer Weekend.

I saw you there (Streamer Weekend 2.0) as a guest, because of... <Reasons>

So my question... Can you participate now or still no? I would think the ban should be lifted if it's not already.

The streamer weekend isn't even for popular streamers at this point (though 5000 followers isn't exactly popular either) I'm pretty sure it's just anyone in the creator program these days, the qualifications for which being:

"Have a social media account and don't be mean to us." Which is frankly an absurdly difficult set of criteria to obtain.

That's beyond my point... but, ok, thanks for the details on that one. 🤷‍♂️

We'll have to find out next time there's a streamer weekend. I contacted cheebsco about the TFP creator program applications basically not allowing you to reapply if you're denied once and he said he'd get back to me in the new year (this exchange was in mid-december) with more info but forgot I assume.

I really don't care all that much though it would just spare me the cringe of seeing people asking about me in other people's chats for those few days. I can't imagine it feels all that good to be streaming the game and have to answer "Why is peebuilt not live" every 20 minutes and then seeing the chat descend into minor civil wars as some say I'm banned because TFP are EVIL and CENSORING me while the other side acts like I'm the second coming of Osama Bin Laden for criticising a video game company slightly too meanly.

Honestly, the fact that you made and are supporting a mod, means a lot more to me than what TFP decides is included in a creator program.

Maybe I'm just crazy.

Regardless of whether your mod is recognized, I will be paying attention to it.

I have no idea whether the rules changed or not, but those 300 subscriber streamers could have been given a key by invited screamers and then showing either the combined stream or their own

I'm tempted to add this to my Doom overhaul mod, if I get permission. I'm assuming it spawns vanilla POIs without issue?

Yes. It modifies RWG but leaves the surface the same. It come with some new POIs that create entrances to the cave system beneath. And, for those of us who make POIs, you can define one as a cave entrance at it will work in both Vanilla RWG (ignoring the cave interface) and with The Descent mod (which can find the cave interface).

You will also get some entirely underground POIs. Vanilla RWG will ignore those, but with The Descent they will be incorporated into the cave system.

You will get some other modifications to the game from the Descent that affects lighting, batteries, etc. You can mix/match those with your own tastes.

Then you would be in a position to actively evaluate the presence of a cave system on the game.

"Entitled" implies expecting things you haven't earned or don't deserve — I don't think that would describe the 7d2d community very well.
Many players have been around along, long time with many of them having many many thousands of hours in this game.
I really don't see how you can compare tfp having a little more transparency in their release dates vs thinking veteran players being entitled.

It does describe you very well. As I said, you expect a managerial level of information to be given to you.

You are not just asking for "a little more transparency in their release dates" and it is very dishonest to paint it that way.

The primary concern I have regarding release dates is the mentality of "it's done when it's done,"
which leaves players uncertain about when the update will be released.
This significantly impacts multiplayer, particularly for servers and players that attempt to schedule their wipes in accordance with new updates (which may or may not necessitate a map wipe).

Possibly I'm missing something here, but surely that happens on a scale of weeks, not years.

You know when a new experimental gets released. You know roughly how long it takes for a stable version to come out after the experimental release.

Surely you just announce when the experimental is released saying 'heads up, new stable version is coming soon' and you're golden.

Nobody ever auto-updates to experimental versions, you have to opt in, and if you're running crossplay servers you'll only be interested in stable versions anyway. You can effectively ignore everything about experimental versions except, crucially, they give you a very accurate indication of when the next stable release is happening.

Just going off when each experimental version actually releases is going to be far more accurate than any road map date.

Have you ever stopped to consider what the other option is?

You can either have 'It's done when it's done' or 'We're calling it done even though it's not done.'

If the second option is what you'd prefer, at least be aware that's what you're demanding. Not that I think for a moment TFP are going to suddenly make radical changes to their development approach, but a bit of self awareness never hurts.

Personally I've suffered decades of publishers insisting games go out the door on an arbitrary date regardless of their actual fitness for release, so I'm very happy with TFP's development methodology, but your milage may vary.

You do understand that you can either guarantee the release date or the release content, but not both, though, right?

That all sounds reasonable until you remember that they sold the game with dates. How'd they come up with dates IF it's only done when it's done, and there's no way to know how long these things will take? If their personal credo is that it doesn't go out until it's ready...what the ■■■■ happened with 2.5?
Timely honest Communication would be the grease between these friction points, but, "we" really don't even get THAT.
Y'all keep asking for dissenters to be reasonable without making any concessions yourselves...good grief.

If they ever make a 7 days to Die 2
I would be interested if instead of another game, and reinventing or redoing what is already.
If they converted it into an engine for sale, Removing a lot of the superfluous additions, and stripping
it down. I have looked over the years, at the advancements in voxel terrain layout in games.

There are some interesting ones and I play them too, but they are always the same layout. The world
gen that they designed over the alphas, is the only one that I can either choose pregen static, seeded
randomness, or paint my self experimenting with gray scale converting an idea from 2d to 3d.

When i want total creative freedom, I create a map without POIs, Cm a vehicle and just drive for awhile,
for me it's simple freedom of movement, going up and down slopes, making land bridges low like in
Key west, or natural dirt ramps to jump over crevasses, the gravity change from prior made a big
difference in that. I have not found it in any other game with the flexibility of the total rendering package.
Oh, yeah and I also play the game portion.
