V2.5 Survival Revival Dev Diary

Hehe, his stealth made useless by his team. At the same time, if they were to stay outside and let the stealth guy work, then they're bored. It seems either everyone uses stealth or nobody does.

When I played AGI in a group I often alternated between going with them and going alone (the latter especially in the night). Because they were going through POIs as if they were on a tight schedule. Especially bad when it was a new POI and I wanted to saviour the design of the new POI.
It always felt like following an elephant trampling through a porcellain shop while I wanted to admire the porcellain.

Usually the best way to handle this is to use the AGIs alternate personality of run-and-gun shooter while playing together.

That's why I only play SP (plus a few other reasons). 🧐

That is, unless somebody comes up with a way to mix the roles. I had one team where I would stealth and another guy would follow two rooms back looting and salvaging. I could bring nasty surprises back to him. That worked for him, but I'd bet few people would want to do that.
I like that. You go around in two people, brightness at 0 so you can’t see anything without a flashlight, sneak around at night, do POIs quietly, think, and plan your tactics. When 3.0 comes out, I’ll play like this with my friends at least I’ll try to convince them. If not, I’m sure at least one of my friends will play this way. The last time we played was probably in 2.0 not everyone liked that update and some stopped playing. We’ll split into groups, and for example, we’ll go around in two people at the low level POIs, and when we already have a higher level, we’ll do them together.

That friend who liked sneaking around did the same thing he’d go alone, do his own tasks, or roam through buildings. Sometimes I’d bring him ammo or bandages. We only started playing all together once we reached high level missions. Usually, we played in pairs because it annoyed us that, with just a few people, everyone would take either a bigger or smaller share of the loot. There were even some who took most of it and didn’t contribute at all, even though everyone had a turn to get the main reward, lol.

2.5 First day. I tested the game out to see what all the hype was about. I must say smells do bring a lot of danger to it. Not all zombies react to smell but most do. Faster than normal to. Gives you more challenges.
I didn't like how there are fewer starter points and more options for said points.
My first day, I managed to get both infected and cured twice.
I also managed to get a whole list of ailments, all stemming off of getting a raw deal after eating a Shamway sandwich. lol But I survived.
I found out that it's best to eat indoors but not stand too close to an opening. Still trying to figure out the new clothing though. Socks for example.
Can't stand Trader Rex. Wish there was something that we could do about him.
Found Trader Jen on the third day. She's changed alright. to be honest, I think she looked better before the change. The new look just doesn't fit her or her original voice. She looks a little like she's Japanize and the southern bell voice just doesn't track.
Another thing that I learned is that if you take cover in a sealed shelter, such as Jen the trader. You can get temporary protection from the elements. If you are not accustomed to the area.
Just like going back to the Pine biome.
but I don't know if it would work for other shelters yet or a player built one.
Love how we now have jars again. :)
Now I don't have to buy those expensive parts from the traders. Just so I don't have to drink bad water from rivers.
Black lung temp cure is great for short trips into the burnt forest. Lasting up to seven minutes per dose. That keeps you from dying.
I think that I am going to rename my avatar, (Always hungry). Because the avatar burns through food like a fish through water. That's even after the leaky gut perk.
All and all, I like most of the changes.

You can add more starting points if on PC or the game is hosted on PC or a server by editing the spawnpoints.xml file. Just add more lines with more coordinates. But they want you starting in the forest, so having a lot of spawn points isn't really going to do much if you keep them in the forest. Spawning 100m away isn't really going to change anything. This should be done before starting a new save.

You can eat anywhere. It really has very little impact unless you do it when you can see a lot of zombies around or where you are in the middle of a town, and even then it isn't really a big deal. Clothing is simple - if it shows it's better when comparing the stats, wear it. There are 3 tiers for each item, with 5 quality levels per tier. There are also 3 tiers to the armor mods that affect temperature, going from red to green to blue.

If you want to get rid of Rekt and are on PC or the game is hosted on PC or a server, just edit prefabs.xml and replace trader_rekt with trader_jen or whoever you want. This should be done before starting a new save, though you can reset chunks at that location in an existing save.

You can take shelter in any POI that has a roof, or even underground as long as you can move a little bit away from any door or opening to the outside. Shelter protects from storms and biome hazards. The biome challenges have you doing this to point out that it helps.

You never had to buy mods from the trader for the dew collectors. They speed things up and make it so you don't have to boil water, but that wasn't necessary and still isn't.

The biome drinks are really only half the time you think. You get the original time that you get without it and when you drink it, it doubles that. When that time runs out, you're taking damage, not getting that original time still remaining. Still, it can help. Of course, it isn't really necessary. I drink one for the challenge so I can make the protection, but I don't need it. It's easy enough to just jump in and out of the biome to complete stuff quickly.

They forgot to mention that the 2.5 update breaks twitch integration on dedicated servers. Only posting here because the bugs reports haven't had any responses for a couple of weeks now...
They take vacation for the holidays. They should start to catch up on those soon.

More on... smells.
Killed a boar and just like that it was feeding time at the zoo. Oh did I menchen that it was as night, in the Burnt forest biome? No? Cool. :p
Well I got swamped right away. Naturally I wanted to defend my kill but fighting several zombies. Some of them feral, I took damage, Got sick and on fire. All at the same time. lol 😂
But what happened later was so much better. :) 😃
Did you know that carrying 66 units of meat will put out a sent that can be detected for 100 meters? 😗
It was like someone following me with a dinner bell and screaming. Come and get it! One of those big-■■■ ones that you can hear, like in the old westerns and they came a-runnen. lol 🤪
It was a really great way to level up ya-know. ;)
Oh thank you for the experience. Oh! A loot-bag for me?? Ah, you shouldn't have! 🥹😁
Some more animals attacked to. Which meant more meat for me. 🥰

@sillls
Welcome back. And when they say paper or plastic; it's definitely paper.
Good Times.

You can also keep 50 blocks converted to the frame set instead of solid, to erect
temporary hovels. 25 will do a simple 3 by 4. But you can expand for the treasure
maps, and still see what's coming.

Thank you for sharing your stories about enjoying the 2.5 update.

It looks like @Riamus responded to some of your comments from your first post, so I thought that I would address something from your second one. While 66 is a good enough number for units of meat, I saw in a YouTube video that 50 is the magic number to get the smell up to the maximum of 100m (2m of smell per piece of meat). As you said, it is a good way to get experience points, summoning the nearby enemies to you, so I have taken to keeping at least 50 in my pocket while I am out looting and salvaging.

@faatal Happy new Year to you!

Me and my family have been playing 2.5 non-stop over the holidays, and we noticed that Zds do get stuck a lot lately with several waist-up blocks, including some curtains, blinds, closet doors, supermarket doors (iron ones with glass and a metal bar in de middle) and many other blocks. They seem to not crouch if available and they fail to move and can't target the upper block. They look very confused, yet due to this, we can make HUGE exploits on horde nights, as they simply "stay" in place (they do move, but won't target that block) and "very occasionally" hit the upper block.
