PC V2.3 Experimental

Is someone on vacation? I missed that announcement and as far as I can tell everyone has been working this past week. Monday is a holiday which TFP observes so that’s the only vacation I’m aware of.
when have they ever announced their vacations? never? Meanwhile Hated just let us know we have a second experimental just dropped...and we are waiting for "localization translation changes" before 2.3 goes stable. Can you explain what that means?

Oh look, they were working the whole time. Maybe just have some patience and be quiet and wait like a normal person.

Localization is what the game uses for almost all text in the game. IIRC, they use a third party to handle all the other languages, so likely they sent the localization off to get updated and are waiting on that for stable.

Two days after this thread was posted, Roland posted it should only take 1-2 weeks to go stable, 7 days ago I asked, how is the update playing, any bugs holding up the release?...no response from mods or staff. My lack of patience? I am waiting to try the changes, it is pointless (to me) to play without the changes.
You might have also seen that I don't expect to see Bandits before Q4 2026...won't be commenting on how long they are taking, because there is no point.
Oh I 'll keep checking in to read...but, plan on mostly lurking, maybe hand out a cookie or a thumbs up, but, that's about it.
I hope you read back thru the thread, I am not the only person asking when it will go stable, or is enthusiastic about it going stable, and I think I was fairly non confrontational.
Regardless, I am also not the only person to note the lack of posts from staff on the forums, I asked if this was a delay exacerbated by vacation time, because so many seemed sure this should not have taken this long to go stable, coupled with the disappearance of certain devs from the forums, made it seem like a fairly reasonable question.

Staff read the forums... They could have just communicated what the delay was before now.

So why would you just assume that vacation time was at all connected to 2.3 not going stable yet? The way you posed the question made it seem like a foregone conclusion they were on vacation and you were wondering if that was the only reason 2.3 wasn't out yet.

Meanwhile Hated just let us know we have a second experimental just dropped...
There's your reason. They had more to add and decided it would be better to push it all to 2.3 instead of doing a short 2.3 followed by a 2.4 which would have been a lot more disruptive for console players. So they added some content for the initial 2.3 experimental and now they've added more content for the 2.3 experimental and they are going to let it simmer for testing before they make it stable.

and we are waiting for "localization translation changes" before 2.3 goes stable.
Localization is all the text that shows up on screen. They have added changes in 2.3 that have resulted in new messages and descriptions and instructions. Those words all have to be translated into the supported languages before the game can be pushed out to the masses. While it is an opt in only experimental its okay that everything newly added is just in English but before it is a fully public update they need to make sure all languages are supported.

Hope that helps. You can probably expect another week or more of experimental-- particularly if they push more content to keep the number of updates lower.

I know you like to jump straight to "THEY LIED!" when any kind of time estimate is given so I will state for the record that I was simply making an observation based upon historical experimental time lengths. I didn't know at the time that they were planning to push additional changes into this current update. So my estimate was just on the build that we had which probably would have come out except that they decided to push a new build with more changes. Nothing nefarious. Nothing devious. I hope nobody read my comment two weeks ago and bought a copy of the game based on their assumption that I was promising a two week window.

As for being pointless to play, I'm not sure why that is. Turn off storms and and biome progression and the game will play mostly like it did in version 1 but with other enhancements. Once 2.3 drops if you think you will like the changes then turn storms and biome progression on. But it isn't a bad choice to play something else for awhile either. I've been thinking of getting back into No Man's Sky, myself....

I mentioned you specifically to show that even you had thought it would not take all that long. Not to call you a liar.
Your reasoning about this was sound in my own opinion.

I do have to ask...if YOU knew the cause of the delay...why the ■■■■ did you not communicate it?

I didn't know until they pushed a new build to stable. Honestly, when nothing happened yesterday I figured it wouldn't happen until next week. When I saw the announcement update my first thought was that it went stable but upon reading that they pushed a new build I realized that experimental would be continuing.

Do you understand my frustration? I asked a week ago if there was ANYTHING holding this up from going stable? TIMELY Communication would be nice. It would not have been hard for someone on staff to simply state that they were waiting for approvals AND adding additional fixes, so, it will still take more time.

There are lots of people who are waiting for these changes to play the game...to try out the fixes...Idk about them, but, why would I go back to, essentially, 1.0?

If they want more patience...they should communicate.

thank you

Because software development is a fast changing job with lots of uncertainty about the future. Better to just announce things as they happen. Two weeks ago, they communicated that 2.3 experimental was beginning. Today they communicated that it is continuing with some additional content changes. The next time they communicate will be to announce stable or to announce a new build being pushed to experimental.

Well, since that was my intent, to run the horde twice, I don't think you caught what the actual problem was, but, it's okay. I mean, I almost always run the first and sometimes second horde twice since I run 120 days. That makes the night really long so I have the time to do that, and like doing that. 120 days means that a 7th day horde is closer to a normal 14 day horde and that's the way I like to play. The problem is in the fact that the challenge didn't register as completed, not in that the horde ran twice. That was intentional.
As far as I have seen from other people posting about this in the past, this has been the case for that challenge all along, though I haven't tried logging out in the middle myself. But it seems intentional that you complete the horde night without doing or logging out. In any case, starting with 2.3, it won't matter. Even day 7 horde night should have too many zombies in the final wave (999) to allow it to finish before 4am.
