You can have darker nights. Turn the Video/Brightness setting down, which does not make day darker only night. I currently play on 25% and some other devs lower it as well.
I get that badges were added to slow progression slightly but it would still be nice to have the old temp systems alongside needing the badges, also the badges arent very immersive and could be replaced for something not immersion breaking like mask filters that the player can't trade or transfer that automatically activate when the player is in the biome and wearing anything in the mask/face slot (basically changing the name, image and description of each badge and only having them work when something is in the mask/face slot), means they then cant give other players access to the biomes when they haven't earned it to keep the slowed progression they want the game to have and keep the immersion up alongside keeping the feel of the old game where a cold biome needs you to wear insulating clothing not just have a badge
When will we have the ability to change up the settings for cross play? Like turn off blood moons, etc etc? Right now if you have any other settings except exactly default, cross play is not possible.
On the news page, they have a list of acceptable settings for dedicated server crossplay. There are more options than default. I've seen people having trouble with that, but according to TFP the notice that it is in the modded category doesn't mean that console can't connect, as long as the options are one of the allowed values. For example, you can set day length to any of the normal values for it (30 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes, etc.), but you can't set some random value like 200 minutes. There may still be some kind of bug with it, and the best option for getting it sorted out is to post in the Game Support forum and include your serverconfig.xml file from the dedicated server and a list of what consoles are trying to connect (PS5, XBox S, XBox X) so they can see what the issue is.
They changed that a while ago because people wanted darker nights (nights were almost daytime brightness) without having days look like nights. Anything below 50% only affects nights, while over 50% affects both, IIRC. I haven't ever tried it, and that's just what I have seen posted about it.

They said that temp isn't gone for good. It just needs to be reworked.

I thought I had, lol, I don't keep old saves after I start a new game. I had deleted my saved game, after I downloaded 2.0, then I tried to make a new game.
I even tried to generate a new map, with a new name, on the lowest settings. and start would remain greyed out.
It wasn't until Sylen said new world seed name that I tried typing one in on the advance settings page.
and then it generated a new 8k map that start was not greyed out.

Yeah, you were basically trying to change the size on a map that was already made. With either a new seed so it's a new map or else deleting the old one, you would not have any problem.
I swear, the rock quarry is set to always have a storm, and I kind of love it lol
So far, the only storms I've had hit while I am in a PoI are always here, and this is definitely the coolest place to have it happen since you are running between cover trying not to get caught out in it. IMO it's the peak use case of the storms, might be a neat setting if the storms actually did purposely target when you were in t4 and t5+ POI to add more ambience
I still think a Blood Storm that doesn't do damage (unless . . .) should hit on blood moons too, because it would be cool
Edit: Y'know, while cooking up mad scientist ideas that are super cool that Reddit would hate, there could even be some cool storm generator type missions / events, potentially not even tied to traders. Stuff like a permanent storm rolls in until you go to a PoI and find the generator and disable it, or a huge snow storm hits the area until you head to a location and fight a boss yeti with a horde of smaller yetis protecting him as they "call in a blizzard" etc
Wait, really? I never touched that because the tooltip only says it changes how bright the game is, it does not say only for night.
If it is only for night, it should say that...

I believe the restriction is you have to use settings that match a choice available in the UI settings.
It is being worked on. I know Alloc added logging for settings that don't match. I think we will be doing min/max checks that they stay in a valid range.

It would be neat if yall also got rid of the silly message about the server being tossed into the modded category when any setting is changed. It should only say that when the setting is outside of values available in the vanilla client.

Hello @faatal
Is there a chance for 2.1 Exp by this Friday (July 4), or is there a lot more work needing to be done before the release?
I remember that you mentioned that 2.1, 2.2 will have lots of additions and changes (if I remember correctly... It's my old age kicking in!).

I think we want a release this week, but I don't know if we will get it wrapped up in time. The amount of changes are proportional to how many days we get to work on it.
