Maybe a moderator can move the airport discussion to a new topic? Sorry it's gotten so big. I started a new thread that the other posts can be merged to if you want.

As others have said, that would work. I think that would work out great for scenarios, like say "The Story" and the Navezgane map. The Navezgane map already has some custom stuff on it that cannot show in RWG. I recall people playing something like the "Skyscraper Challege" where they never left that POI. Maybe something like that for an airport would be neat.

If the game could interconnect maps, you could conceivably move from a main map to an adjacent map that was an airport, which would be really cool, but imagine the technical considerations. Would it be a "teleporter" or present a seamless edge between maps? Would it take multiple servers to support multiplayer environments? Maybe it would be "instanced"? -- I don't see any of that tech stuff happening compared to everything else the Devs and the Community have in mind.

But the community of creators certainly has it in its power to make a custom airport map. I'd still like some airplane and helicopter blocks as I don't think I'd be up to the challenge of "block stacking" a reasonable sized Cessna. That's TFP-level talent. ;)

oh fudge...didn't think that deeply about it. Instances would be amazing...I was meant a stand alone adventure dlc map type of thing...your idea would be BETTER by a factor of ten. imo. maybe not practical, but, solid gold.
 
sorry...you are right, this is it's own thing. I'll stop asking questions that only cause me to have more questions... until it gets moved. I am curious why wilderness towns are only two tiles and how big those tiles are...just more questions. lol

I'm happy to chat direct about it or in another discussion.

Basically, when you declare a "settlement" you tell RWG about what resources it has and roughly how they get grouped, but RWG has complete freedom to arrange the Districts (collections of Tiles) and the Tiles themselves however it wants and it does so trying to preserve a reasonable network of city roads. So it picks from Cap, Corner, Intersection, Straight, and T.

We just happen to know if you say your settlement is one District and that district is only one Tile, that you will always get a Cap Tile. After that, RWG does whatever RWG wants. We're scheming for how to get it to predictably put three Tiles together, but it isn't part of RWG's intent, so (assuming we found a combination) it could break in a later release. :)

Yeah, taking your existing character to the new zone is THE way to do it. Via fast travel or whatever. That would be awesome. I'd pay for an expansion like that.

Maybe the Airport will be a destination the Traders can send you to on a mission when fast travel shows up. (Dreaming...)

I mean, we don't know how something like a Duke's Stronghold will be done. Maybe they want a fast-travel to alternative map system?
 
Ce jeu est devenu un feu follet ; chaque alpha est hypé, et un mois plus tard, je suis dégoûté. Je n’aime pas cette alpha 2.0, ce n’est pas le jeu que j’ai adoré. Je regrette les armes divisées en 4 qui pourraient aller jusqu’à 600. La mise à niveau des armes et des outils à travers l’utilisation me manque ; qui auraient dû être mélangés avec des livres. Je regrette de devoir toujours dépendre du commerçant et de ses missions boiteuses, d’être bloqué sur tout pour mes constructions ; L’humidité me manque. Les médaillons de la taupe, la survie est affreuse, vos tempêtes ne servent à rien. Bref, il y a trop de choses à dire. Oh oui, vos skins Barbie signés madmole, Fortnite n’est pas jaloux. Comme d’habitude, en 1 ou 2 ans pour 1 mois de jeu, je reste déçu. MERCI À JAWOODLE ou à d’autres pour cet appel sincère. Tellement déçu par le comportement de madmole, le musclé Ken. MADMOLE devrait s’occuper de son nouveau projet qui n’intéresse personne. Au revoir, je n’ai pas cru en Fun Pimps pendant longtemps ; De nombreux anciens joueurs sont dégoûtés par votre comportement.

Why are you still here if the game is nothing you would play as it is now?
It's just a game after all, you don't have to spend your life on something so frivolous.
Also, there are literally thousands of other games on the market. Pick one you like and get over this one!
 
A small regional airport, like one near me in real life, and perhaps like might be in Navezgane (instead of Phoenix), has 1 gate and no Jet Bridge (Sky Bridge, Jetway) because you just walk out to the aircraft and go up steps. There's no parking garage because there aren't many people coming and going. The airport is mostly used by private aircraft or those training to be pilots.

But you're saying if the runway started off but then ended in a crater, you'd be okay with RWG possibly putting a big building or a bunch of trees right after the crater?

I guess I was just more focused on the terminal & parking garage aspect of the airport. There would have to be a runway of some sort though for it to be considered so.

Not sure what a realistic idea would be. I'm guessing it's pretty complicated or the pimps would already have implemented an airport in the mix.

Man I hope they don't remove the frost claw. I get what some are saying about him being too "fantasy" or whatever.

I want them adding zombies in, not taking them away. We'll probably just get the blue tinted lumberjack back who now throws rocks.

I still want the cowboy, the cheerleader, football player, farmer and oh yes . ..my topless stripper back in the game!!! 😁

But seriously, wouldn't it be way too big, even with a smaller airport?
TFP has to think about performance for lower end PCs and Consoles and any huge POIs would tank the FPS on those systems. Plus, they would need to create airplane models and all to make it look realistic; all those extra models for just one POI?

What TFP could do is create a few crashed airplane models that they could scatter around the world. We have airplanes that drop loot, so why not loot some dropped airplanes? (see what I did there?)
Ace i made a rural airport POI years ago...it was 200x200 maybe smaller ...just because we could at the time with Guppys mod server..I still have the pictures....also made a small urban one and made planes and a helicopter...I think ithey are being used used in one of the mods....And that was back then....A skyscraper isnt taxing on the system...a flat poi shouldnt be too bad. Besides...I earned it!! LOL..we all did!!!

I see it....you need small piper cub models that make up many rural airports...they are scattered all over the country.

That was my endgame story....to finally get to make a gyrocopter....take off and fly into 7DtD 2...it would make a perfect ending....flying to wherever the airdrop plane was going!!

I will have to dig up the old pictures..think they are on my other comp....it wasnt that big of a poi either....

Nothing is being removed. The models are being changed.

I think Joel just has an issue with my coughing....I've been doing it for over 10 years!! LOL hence the name tag!! But Roland gave me that when he was Forum King!
 
I think a couple of small airplane models (Cessna, etc.) and a couple of helicopter models, with crashed variations, would be handy.

As for an airport POI, I have a follow-up question for folks who want one. Do you care if the runway is limited to a maximum length of around 150 blocks (~150 meters) which is slightly larger than the parking lot of a large POI, or would you say that it be important to be able to predictably string together some content such that something like a 450 block runway be possible?

For reference, my local regional airport has a runway of 5,600 feet in length and 100 feet in width, which would be 1,700 blocks by 30 blocks. Naturally, a POI of actual size would be massive, but how long would give you the feel of a runway?

Its not that you need a full length runway....the airport POIs I made were 200x200 at the time....i think...something like 7 or 8 years ago...they were simple with crashed or damaged planes.....it was more the added immersion of another place people were trying to escape from...small planes,,,,i actually made the rural one with out buildings and a small tower..fuel dump and a small hangar....it was a regular poi ...but it was rundown like everything else

There already are several custom airport POIs available. They are some of the absolute worst-performing POIs possible, due to size and complexity. Now, are they a blast to play? Yes, sure, if you have a beefy enough PC. But there is absolutely no way any console could handle even a moderately sized airport POI, and console limitations are unfortunately a consideration when it comes to game development. So are potato PCs, for that matter.
one of those or two ..(mine were basic...because of the size...i didnt make them complex!).......might be the ones i created..i know i was asked to add them to one of the mods way back...id have to see them..what mod they in??

Dude.....ive been playing this since the beginning....ive had many conversations with the team..I love the game....and keep coming back each update...just like this last one..I was a tester for the game...Go back and play A6/7 thru A13/14..... some of the blood moons battles in the cities were epic, where you pretty much were throwing rocks at the end of the night,,,45 minute firefights with waves of zombies..It was exciting and fun. .But unless you have seen the past iterations.....you have no idea how much has changed!!

I've had a couple of them for so long that I don't remember where I got them. I got a couple from the PEP pack at some point. A number of them are in the Compopack, but I've been using my own versions for years and prefer them over the CP versions (no offense it's just a sentimental thing).

Anyway, Zyncosa's airport, GT's Rundown Airport, Viper 7's Private Airstrip, and Andy's SAP Air are the ones I can think of right offhand.

I beg of you...please make it so the brightness adjustment below 50% doesn't affect indoor brightness during the day. I absolutely love the way it looks at night at 0%, both outdoors and in, but during the day it gets way too dark indoors.
