I see that one of the changes is ore concentrations vary by biome. In the past you could dig down to 15 blocks above bedrock and then tunnel in any direction and eventually hit some ore (Iron and Lead were pretty common).
This was useful in that you could adventure during the day and then tunnel at night safely for resources and XP.
In my first 2.0 random gen playthrough, this is gone. I've created a web of tunnels all through the starting forest biome and found only a small pocket (< 50 units of nitrate). I've resorted to using the surface ore markers for resources. It's certainly going to impact ammo production as I'll be devoting some mornings to mining and not constantly adventuring. I'll not have stockpiles of 7.62 for day 14 that's for sure.
Is the lack of subsurface ore (even Fe deposits, which were common) in my random gen bad luck or design?
