The road maps have always been aspirational, there are frequently unforeseen delays. Don't take it as gospel.

2.0 has already been delayed by 3 months...every delay pushes the rest of the list back. If the delays are frequent then the progress is infrequent. TFP wanted you to believe that they were shaking off their old image on this relaunch.

2.0 has already been moved one quarter to the right. I don't think 2.0 will be heavily moved again. I highly doubt 2.0 will be out later than spring.

Although it's already clear that 3.0 and 4.0 are also moving at least one quarter to the right. I think it's safe to say that 4.0 will be in 2026. 3.0 will probably come out in Q4 2025.

TFP will have to break all the laws of physics to release 2.0-4.0 in 2025😁 But still releasing 2.0 and 3.0 in 2025 is quite possible.

No they were pretty upfront on schedule expectations.  A lot of people saw the information circled in yellow and assume that was a promise.  But they either ignore or didn't note the information circled in red below.  Rough dates, Subject to Change, and a past history of TFP releasing the updates when they are ready to do so instead of an arbitrary specific date - those are all indicators that they are not pushing to have 2.0 / 3.0 / 4.0 to be released just to match the rough dates given out prior to 1.0 dropping.

So, TFP did not acknowledge they were the butt of several jokes during the dev streams? this is the kind of defence that I shake my head at. I knew that THAT line circled in red would be doing a lot of heavy lifting. They are supposed to be in the final stages...fine tuning...not still trying to figure out how to make their ideas work.

Wait. Is this an industry standard statistic developers are supposed to track?

Fairly weak bull@%$#. Why are you...a mod...taking this out of context? I thought you were supposed to be above trolling. sets a bad example.

This comment was specific to TFP trying to shake off their old image, of not being able to meet self imposed deadlines, of coding at a glacial pace, during their dev streams pre launch.

Why would he be supposed to be above sarcastic comments? Which is not the same as trolling as he is making a specific  point with that, even if you think it is wrong or weak. The streams of TFP have their owners and developers talk openly about what they did do and try to do, without any marketing department gating it.

I haven't seen the stream or streams so I don't know what exactly they said. But I would assume whatever they said about changing their image has a lower priority than their intention to make the game they want in the quality they want. And when the latter goal couldn't be reached in the timeframe they wanted, then I would assume the lower priority goal was scrapped again.

Making a good game is not something you can do in a factory with industrial processes, much of it is an art. And everyone has his own way to make art. 7d2d is an excellent game for many people, something that can not be said about some of the AAA games that came out last year and were produced more like a coffee machine on a production line.

So...it's not trolling when you guys do it?

You have not seen the 3 dev streams from pre launch?...part of me is very jealous.

While I appreciate your Art metaphor, I feel it misses the mark because we are not supposed to still be in the "creation phase". This supposed to be the fine tuning phase. They are still trying to figure out how to code their ideas...AFTER reselling the game. wtf?

I'm not trolling. How did I take it out of context? None of your following comments in that quote added any more context to the comment I quoted. Who claimed that TFP was trying to shake off their old image? TFP has always been a development studio that waits to release an update until they feel it is ready rather than trying to stick to a previously estimated date.

I knew that THAT line circled in red would be doing a lot of heavy lifting.

See? Even you know their methodology. If you knew they were going to lean heavily on the caveat that all dates are estimates and subject to change as you just stated then why all the false shock and pretense of outrage that the dates were subject to change? Now that we know that you knew, all your attempts to draw parallels with what such delays would mean for other businesses and other industries are what smacks of trolling.

Let me help you out. The new date of Winter 2025 for the release of 2.0 is ALSO subject to change and if the coding isn't ready by whenever you think Winter is over, they aren't going to release it just to hit their re-estimate. They will release it when they feel it is done and not before and they will keep changing dates as necessary. That's the reality and it has never been different from that and it always will be the way it is.

Their release schedule is 100% based on when the update is ready and nothing else...not even 0.05% based on Grandpa Minion's attempts to place an order in for them...lol

So why publish a roadmap with dates? Because a goal gives them something to work for. They almost never hit their release date estimates but they have successfully released 22 major updates each of which they promised they would deliver. 2.0 and 3.0 and 4.0 will each be delivered. That is a promise. If the delivery process is too slow for you then stop following the progress. Shelve the game and play other stuff until you can circle back to it once it's finally finished. Also, you could spend your time compiling all the jokes made about TFP if that entertains you.

According to whom? Who determines what they are supposed to do? I can understand the confusion when they called their first unified version across all platforms "1.0" but now that we know the next major update is labeled as version "2.0" are you still going to claim that TFP is using these versioning numbers in the traditional sense? What? Are you going to be outraged when 2.0 is released and claim that the game is supposed to be in it's sequel phase since 2.0 has traditionally meant the full sequel release of an existing first game?

It is plainly obvious that TFP is bucking tradition and doing their own thing when it comes to version numbering. Such a move definitely created some confusion around the launch as people thought TFP was claiming the game was done even though they emphatically stressed that the game was not yet finished. With version 2.0 just around the corner and then 3.0 coming later this year and 4.0 coming later or probably next year it's time to finally clue in that traditional ways of looking at these labels need to be let go.

TFP is not simply fine-tuning their game. They are still adding major features which will also need to be fine-tuned. You can ignore reality and cling completely to your preconceived notions of what "1.0" and "2.0" should mean and then try to argue what TPF should and should not be doing but it is just going to keep you frustrated and apparently perpetually outraged that TFP isn't doing what they're supposed to be doing. If you accept that the game is still fully in development and they are using their own custom non-traditional number system for the unified versions across platforms then hopefully you will find some peace.

I really think bloodmoons content should be in 7dtd
I don't agree. They need special items to get people more interested in the new game, plus it's another studio so they can make their own things to fit with what they want Blood Moons to be.

And, as mentioned before, there should be a Blood Moons forum so that people don't post about Blood Moons in the v1.x Developer Diary forum, where it doesn't belong.

I do think it would be nice if they still could include a Horde Mode in the base game. It wouldn't have to be on par with the new 4v1 Bloodmoons game but the original simple Horde Mode was fun and having it in the base game might work to bring a lot of people over to the spinoff game once they play it and want something even more filled out.

Serious question: how many more years are you trying to give them? Is there a point where you will say they have taken too long? 3 years after relaunch...4 years? never?

I have pointed out more than once that TFP said they were close to going gold in 2019 and 2021. So where's all that progress/work on 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0?

they are supposed to be in the balancing/fine tuning phase of this rollout...NOT still trying to figure out how to code their ideas. This is not supposed to be STILL be the creation phase.

lol...go away...go play something else until this is done.                No.

There is literally no way to know how long that will be...and the denizens of this site are not exactly pushing TFP to meet their own goals. So I will stay to keep you company during this ridiculously long process.

As long as they are putting out updates periodically and the game is playable and fun I'm content to come back to the game and try the new versions for as long as it holds my interest. If they went 2 years or more without any update then I would most likely move on. The length of the development doesn't bother me so much since I have continued to enjoy each update for what they were. I've also tried several overhaul mods and enjoyed those. I also have other games I like to play. If they keep updating at least 1-2 times a year for the next 10 years I'd keep coming back to play.

I have pointed out more than once that TFP said they were close to going gold in 2019 and 2021. So where's all that progress/work on 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0?

They chose to overhaul the game with 100% in-house original art. If they would have just kept to the original art style which mostly consisted of 3rd party ready made assets they would be much farther along. You've got to be kidding about the progress towards 2.0 since we got part of it in December and the rest will be here in an estimated 2-3 months. It's not like we haven't seen anything of 2.0 at all.

3.0 has had quite a bit of work done towards bandits already. I believe all the art and modeling is done and the AI and pathing is well underway. It was put on the backburner once the roadmap was released with all hands on deck working on 1.0 and now 2.0. Work will pick up where it left off once 2.0 is released. I believe there are 1 or 2 new quest types that were also in the works pre 1.0 but were shelved for when it is time again to work on 3.0 content. 4.0 is mostly likely all concept and story boards. They won't even start implementing the story into the game itself until 3.0 content is done.

lol...go away...go play something else until this is done.                No.

Only in the name of helping you attain peace of mind did I suggest that. I wasn't telling you to go away. I, myself, am playing other games right now and taking a break from 7 Days. It's not a big deal to play a variety of games.

There is literally no way to know how long that will be...and the denizens of this site are not exactly pushing TFP to meet their own goals. So I will stay to keep you company during this ridiculously long process.

Just so you've internally come to terms that it is going to be a ridiculously long process. I know you state that it is but a big part of you believes it shouldn't be and you're ignoring the reality of the situation and fixating on your expectation which are sure to disappoint. The development of this game is certain to continue to be a ridiculously long process. Accept it and adjust your playtime with your whole library of games and you'll be happier.
