PC Trader and economy balance thread

If your at the point in your game where you can craft and sell steel stuff, augers, chainsaws etc, then your at endgame and in my opinion probably playing on past the point where a lot of players have quit and started a new playthrough. I personally have never got to crafting augers before i get bored with the game and start over.
I doubt you got that far with A17 yet? With all the game stages and new ai, I would expect a very hard challenge later game, but I could be wrong. I used my auger and chainsaw already that I looted and its pretty nice tbh. It uses some gas. But yeah crafting one is different I suspect, but as long as we keep an evolving challenge, I think late game could be fun. To me most games I restart when I'm so OP that there is no challenge.

I love the idea of traders having specializations. What I would suggest is to ADD a tab of their specialization instead of making them only sell certain items. If you're in a RWG game, it would suck to pick a way to play (like nomad) and find that the only trader available doesn't sell or buy weapons.

I also think that traders could be a huge part of the game if they also sell information. Have them ask you for 5000k dukes for the location of the nearest trader (mark in your map). As it has been stated in the thread, maybe have quests of delivery of items to other traders or reputation gains, for them to reveal the other traders for free. Maybe they tell you where the nearest city is for XXXX Dukes. The nearest Working Stiff, Shamway... you get my drift.

All of the specialized traders could have a weekly quest of item deliveries. This could fill a bar of "need" and when filled you raise reputation just as doing quests for him. The weapons trader would buy any gun level 2 or higher for the week. The medical would need 30 buy med kits before the week ends. (if you don't complete it, you still get dukes for the price of the ones you handed in)

Hey guys and gals, I am working on making traders and the economy as good as possible and need your input. My goals are:1.) Support all play styles, so non crafters can get what they need.

For this let me know if there are any items or resources sorely missing from trader inventory.
All should always sell:

Tool and Die set (price should not be so cheap, as it is a mid-to-late game item)

Beakers (expensive)

Acid

glue

nitrate

coal

gun powder

ammo of some kind (enough to make ait a habit of going to each trader each reset)

Maybe some have a coop or a little farm and they sell fresh eggs and meat

(and yes... vending machines should only reset in the trader location. The ones around the world you could destroy to get the goodies and thats it)

2.) Make it possible to make a living role playing.

Whether it be a lumberjack, a rock miner, a blacksmith, hunter, crafter selling his goods, scavenger selling things, I think you should be able to make a modest living. I'd want to know what trades are under powered and which ones are overpowered or not even supported.
For the lumberjack:

A rare wood/tree (that sells for a lot) that only grows in a certain temperature and you can only find not plant. Maybe in a tough to live terrain like the wasteland.

A tree seed that takes about a week to grow, but traders pay top dukes for the wood.

Hunter:

Rare animal that traders pay to dukes for the fur.

Zombie bear teeth that sell for a lot. (incentive to find and kill zombie bears)

Crafter:

Aesthetic things like chairs, desks, sculptures or some other ♥♥♥♥ you guys come up with.

Miner:

Rare gems (ruby, sapphires, emeralds, etc. You kind of have this already, but in 30+ hours of a17 I have found 2 diamond/rare gem blocks.)

Rare fossils worth a lot

Scavengers:

Relics - Paintings, sculptures, jewelry, etc. worth a ton and found in specific dungeon POIs (make me want to go loot those!)

Lost items of traders - Joe's Pajamas - sentimental values - a ton of dukes. Only bought by Joe and a quest mark should appear in the map.

3.) Perk balance. Are the trading perks too good? I typically get by without them so maybe they are OP?
I believe they're fine. Gives another option to play if you're going for a builder/traps/passive game style. (Just buy what you need) And traders are an absolute necessity for a perma-death SP run for streamers.

You should take a look at the "Ramblin Man" series from Glock9 on Youtube. He also does a series that he calls "Dishong Tower" and in which he himself has imposed the restriction that he doesn't leave Dishong Tower and only survives with what he finds in the building. I think both are very good examples of a role-playing game in 7 Days to Die.
That sounds awesome. I don't know if that would be viable in A17 though since zombies don't deliver food and junk resources like before.

I can craft augers and chainsaws, and any weapon I want, the blood moon hordes are still a challenge, but there's little point going into POI's anymore as I have everything I need, and they don't offer a good enough reward (read that as a good amount of ammo) to make it worth risking. On day 115 and level 130.

He is on day 8 at A17 and doing pretty good so far but yes the resources are very limited. He got some coins from killing a business zombie which allowed him to buy some food from a vending machine.

I've watched his series and he's on day 8 currently I think. I've also adopted his idea and am playing a game like that. It's pretty entertaining and if I get a garden going I should survive. I don't imagine a playthrough of 100+ days but so far it's not only viable but fun for a change of pace.

Quest tier V, how many of you have tried? Those should be better paid, IMO.. or I'm complaining just because I can. lel seriously, most of the zombies on POI's are irradiated and no matter if you have level 6 weapons. Im not saying reduce the special zombies spawns on POIs but raise a little bit the amount of dukes for doing it. At the end, players will get enough dukes to buy the ammo they spent on the quest. XD

About traders inventories. well, they should sell paste to craft tapes. I dont remember buying paste. I know we can find tapes on garbage but If you are on a hurry because a horde night is coming and you dont have repair kits and no bones to make paste.. oof!

About ammo, I always buy ammo because I dont like mining that much, it's because the auger... consume more gas that it used to do it in the previous alpha, even a level 6 auger.

Edited:

Reduce the prizes of solar cell, please!

All your armor, tools and weapons are flawless and loaded full of mods?

Are you playing 17.1? You get about 10k xp for t3 quest, and 1125-1500 dukes, AND the quest rewards, I think the XP and dukes are great, but the rewards might be trashy I didn't do that part.

Pretty much yes, I can post screen shots if you like, there's a couple mods I still haven't come across that I want, the spiked club mod (but I have the barbed wire one), and the silencer - my guns are quality 6, i have mods in them, my armor is fully loaded with mods, infact I could do with more mod slots lol

I hope you're not reading this though thinking I'm wanting nerfs, that's 117 hours of gameplay, I grafted for this stuff, so I'm not complaining! Just could do with more ammo in the POI's as rewards for later game.

Sure, I really like the quests, and an option to keep the traders just make them less op would be great if they're willing to put more effort into it, I'm just not sure they are (or that they should) so I asked for the simplest solution :)
Traders are a pretty significant feature to just have an on/off setting for especially because the tie in to quests. I would guess that the devs would be more open to settings that limit the features impact versus disabling it all together. :)

As Mod: Simply set the restock to 30 Days if you dont like traders that are worth the RAM

As Mod and Suggestion: Set vending machines to never restock (And add some spoiled food) (but make a second kind that restocks for trader posts and maybe a few Pois it would make sense (Buzz bar ?!))

(hmm i guess i need to start my notepad++ later this day)

Just want to put in my 2 cents about traders. Some of these have already been requested so I am just agreeing:

-Tool & Die set and beakers in the secret stash or regular trader inventory. I had a hard time finding these items in loot containers.

-Better quality items for rewards after finishing quests. Tier III quests shouldn't be offering gray/orange quality items (in my opinion)

-Vending machines in regular house POIs should be removed. I think they are fine in commercial POIs like the fire station.

-Alternatively, the vending machine's items never changes or gets re-stocked.

-Just remove most gray quality items from traders (except maybe steel items and automatic weapons). I'm just not going to spend my coins on such low quality items that I typically find looting anyway. If any of you have bought a gray quality pistol or gray quality cloth armor from a trader, you need your head examined.

It's only end game when trader Rekt tells you : "ok moron, never repeat it to anyone, but i kinda like you..."

In fact i buy much Q1 stuff to scrap it

Lol, yeah, i'm not finishing this game any time soon, if I do go in POI's it's still dangerous, and blood moons are getting tougher etc, but I am finding there's less interest in going in POI's now due to lack of profitability, and also less interested in the perks now, as although I definitely don't have everything (I'm only level 131 now), there's not really any perks I'm desperate for anymore. Just working on building up strength and fortitude but happy to do that slowly, whilst my character lounges around in his base getting fat lol

I did some changes to tool and die for 17.1. Both my last two games I found one or saw at the trader long before I could craft steel. Have you played 17.1?

We're going to add legendary items with probably random values, so the quest for the best loot will be endless.

That's brilliant news! The game definitely needs legendary items :D
