PC They shouldn't dictate how people want to play. Bring back the cities in forest biome.

But not console. So, console players are stuck with the strange, "no large cities in the Forest biome" decision, which was apparently among the supposed "incentives to explore" implemented of late but, in actuality, comes across as something very different, namely restricting players in how they choose to play. An unintended consequence, perhaps, but that's the impression.
They have indeed enacted these changes to create incentives for players to explore beyond the forest biome and they definitely work. My family used to play most of the game in the forest and now we spend time in every biome and are looking forward to overcoming the hazards of each biome once 2.0 releases.

Incentives and greater rewards for greater risks are measurable and calculable design features. Player feelings are less less so. You feel restricted but I don’t. TFP can’t control how we feel. But the reasons to leave the forest and play in the other biomes are definitely real and work to get us to play the whole game.

And before you call the change using a punishment instead of a reward, it only feels like a punishment because you played it before the change. When looking at the game with fresh eyes, the bigger cities are the reward for exploring and going to the tougher areas.

Actually, it is incentive to not use RWG so I can have actual random maps.  😁

My trader modlet that I am currently tweaking brought cities back to Forest.  It was okay, but after playing vanilla without them, it started to feel like too much.

Right now, I have added towns and I think it is country towns (I don't have the file in front of me to see what it was I added).  That has added some variety to the initial forest POIS / towns but not feel overwhelmed....especially since it might not be until Day 10 or 11 before I get the opening trader route to the burnt forest

Anyone know if the % of the world map affect city size, (ie making forest bigger would increase city size, or are the min max number of city blocks tide directly to the biome?

I'd get teragon to make your dream map. It doesn't have city limitations based on biome. The limitations are based on your min/max size you can set, and also you can modify the min/max height difference so you can have it flatten out huge areas for cities.

Town sizes are set in rwgmixer.xml.  It isn't based on biome size.  I do think it is a range, just like in Teragon, so if the biome was small, you might get a town that is on the lower end of that range.  But it is basically just set up to be specific sizes or ranges for each kind of town.  And the largest towns are in the wasteland and the smallest in the forest.  You can, of course, change those sizes and what biomes they spawn in by editing rwgmixer.xml.

So it's definitely biome type dependent on min/max size of cities. Just made this with even % across all biomes.
