They are bring a hybrid LBD!

would It be fair to say that the PC crowd have this attitude, because nothing has changed for you? you guys bought in for the looooooooooong haul. You guys seem to like EA.
I bought back in BECAUSE OF THE DATES ON THE ROAD MAP. I didn't think they wouldn't have some small delays...that it wouldn't take an extra 6 months or so overall. THIS is nothing like THAT. The dates were not "overly optimistic" they were fabrications. Seems like there is no real plan, just reactions to reactions, and then another system rework or two...then some more reacting to reactions. when does THAT end? seriously...how many more years?
I mean, if the base game is on fire i would hope they put it out as a priority. I actually never cared about the road map, played a bit when it looked like minecraft, played more when the minibike was added, then got REALLY into the game once quests were added. So its not like i haven't been around for a fairly major change or two.

To be honest if we got bandits at the quality level of storms when they were first introduced would anyone really be happy? Maybe the bandits could trap us in our base for 20 mins an hour lmao.

I know they are always working slowly on the listed road map but i don't feel a need to rush them on it, make the base game the best it can be before moving on to the next major update i say!

Unfortunately, that's exactly what I'm expecting. It's already been said not to expect a lot from bandits and we've been seeing some design snafus lately with new features that suggest bandits are going to be a mess when first implemented. Hopefully they'll eventually be cleaned up to be decent, but we'll see. I expect a LOT of complaints about bandits when 3.0 hits, and I'll probably be one of the people complaining. Lol!

so...yes? it is because you guys do not care, because you did sign on for the long haul...nothing has changed. Call it an Alpha or call it 1.0 2.0 etc it is the same schedule...a year to a year and a half...then corrections to what was not well received. Hearing that they are thinking about reworking the progression system AGAIN is just taking away any enthusiasm 2.5 gave me back. Finding out about it because someone posted what Joel is saying on Reddit is just frustrating. That really should have been posted here by him...on his own site.

The change into learn by reading was and still is a major source of contention among the player base. They removed it if i remember right because players were leveling by rubbing themselves on cactus and the perks were terrible. Both of which i see as valid reasons for a substantial rework, did that cactus even consent? So hearing them consider attempting another change will be welcomed by many of their player base.

Communication has been a problem for a long time, they have even acknowledged it in their streams, reddit and here in their forums. A more visible and promoted communication method about what they are working on and why they are working on it would be nice. The same with that they are removing, what its being replaced with and why would be welcome as well. So much if what i see and hear is hearsay or friend of a friend stuff rather than solid insert statement by dev here.
The patch notes tend to be a bit light in my opinion as well.

As for the timeline, they were in early access for 12 years? And if i remember right, only came out of it because they were forced to due to wanting to release on console. So i cant really commiserate with your frustrations as its been like this for 12 years lol. Getting your enthusiasm back for an update that re-added stuff that was removed/implemented poorly and then feeling less than happy about their plans to continue doing such things seems strange to me friend.

I liked the hybrid LBD/point system of A16 just fine. I also liked the perk system. And later the magazine system just fine. I played all of the systems about the same way without gaming them to power grind up the progression ladder as quickly as possible so all of them have felt organic to me as I have played because a slow to moderate pace is what I find to be fun. So if they somehow take everything they have experimented with over the last 7 years in terms of player progression and make an interesting system that uses it all then I’m confident that I will have fun with it and play it at a slow to moderate pace and it will feel like an overall improvement.

Do I think they have to change the current progression system? Not at all and I’d prefer they get 3.0 done first if they are for sure decided on doing it. Part of me thinks “Yeah, combine all the best parts of what you tried….FOR YOUR NEXT GAME”

I don't know that it is accurate to generalize all PC people as being into the long haul, but I could see where those who are into Early Access are more likely to be PC people because that's the most likely place for an Early Access title to start. It's the platform with the most flexibility.

My willingness to participate in Early Access development depends on how much I like the prototype and when I find the project. I'm not automatically into it for the long haul. For instance, I participated in: Empyrion Galactic Survival, Rimworld, and occasionally play Space Engineers, though my participation in those has gone cold. In each of those cases, they were/are using iterative development, which makes participating in the community both fun and useful.

I don't always pick Early Access titles. Most of my game library isn't Early Access. That said, I've never participated in their communities because there's no real point. You can't influence them. Once an EA game gets to a "good enough" state, I can keep participating in the community so long as I'm generally satisfied where it's going.

I had 7D2D back around A16 (I think slightly before A16) and didn't participate because I thought the game was too rough and wasn't going to make it. I'd play it a little each year to see how it was doing because it had potential. Around A19 I got hooked.

I have had consoles in the past. I'm not going back to them. I would say that you're far, far less likely to find an EA/iterative project on the consoles because of the hassle of dealing with Sony/Microsoft and that they have the "titles are finished and then released" mindset. Strangely though, Minecraft is a great example of iterative development and it is on consoles. I don't recall people asking "when will Minecraft be finished?" The Minecraft devs have arguably been more deliberate and purposeful in their versions.

Why can’t this be enough? Why dwell on and become angry with how long it took? That’s in the past and can’t be changed. In the present you are being entertained.
no offence intended

They could have been honest. TFP are still imagineering the game...the development pace has not changed in the least, so why put dates on the road map? You know all ready why I think they did. It was just a lie to get console money to finish the game, to get the game back on the console platforms before it deserved to be.
If they had been honest I would not be here...they didn't deserve to be rewarded for all of the over promising and under delivering. Instead of blaming poor console performance for anything. They could have just made a great game for PC that showcased how "superior" your gaming system is. I would have vastly prefered that they finished the PC game BEFORE porting the game... while they are still trying to figure out how to make it all work...and still shoe horning in changes to changes to old systems....which turn out to be "place holders" because they want to change them again.

to you and @zztong: Minecraft and other games like Rust are continuously being added to...yup...they add to the base game...they don't change the base game over and over...they add to what they had. It's a relationship THEY established from the start...that they would keep ADDING to the base game...not keeping taking away...not reworking...ADDING. TFP just said they would finish the ■■■■ing game...and yet...it does not feel like they are any closer to finishing the game then they were...maybe even slightly farther behind.

So too share it more openly credit to @IzPrebuilt for posting it but sense it was a bit buried i wanted to give for of a spot light.

Cuz @madmole posted this on his comments

But this is awesome news and with this is kinda hope they make more open combat skills with it as well. But only time will tell
Do you have a link to the exact post please?

I wouldn't mind if the learn by doin focused on increasing stats. As you use different weapons/skills you gain ability points automatically in those skills. I would keep crafting recipes in the magazine system. you learn how to make more and more complicated stuff by amassing a larger library of recipes/schematics.

I would rather see parts quality return before the skill system changed once again. Parts quality is one of the few things from previous alphas that I think was a loss to remove.

The hybrid system seems like it would be best but I don't like having to spend time on it.

Hopefully it's after 3.0

Agreed, I kind miss the part system as well. The only issue i see is clutter but I think survival games/RPGs need clutter to collect but it needs to be useful

The thing is, the game is getting better and better so why care about when it will be "finished"? As long as they keep on improving a game that is already very good, then I have no reason to complain.

I say inventory management. It's why items are precious. If you could carry everything then it's not an issue. Plus it would offset the increase in storage space we have seen over the years.

The game is worth it's price tag for sure. These extra updates are icing on the cake for me. Much better than more paid expansions or moving to a new game. If anything I would love to support TFP on an expansion after they release 4.0. I hope they update the game for years like Ark and No Man's Sky even if I have to pay for the additions.

I agree however it seems like to me i might be wrong but there's alot of issues with at least this unity engine. They had to cut corners on things just to make things work like the plains biome, ground textures, ground farming, etc

I dont really get it yet but soon I might once I get into the coding side of things and textures, etc
