Suggestions for Enhancing Late-Game Experiences

Hello,

I wanted to share some thoughts based on my experience playing since early Alpha 4 or 6. I fondly remember the days when Horde Night occurred every night. Over the years, I’ve tried many overhauls and while they feature some interesting and unique zombies, the game tends to lose its challenge once players unlock steel and power.

I do not have specific ideas myself, but I believe that with the creativity of the community, we can find ways to make days 100 and beyond more engaging and challenging.

One observation I've made is that late-game challenges for Horde Nights seem to be overlooked, while early game difficulty mods primarily focus on the initial stages of the game, neglecting the mid to late game. Once players reach the steel and power stages, the sense of progression diminishes.

Though we have numerous overhaul mods that introduce various types of zombies—such as elemental and status effect variants—these additions mainly increase the number of zombies without fundamentally altering the late-game experience.

Facing swarms of standard zombies and Demo zombies can become monotonous. There’s a need for more diversity and complexity in the challenges presented. Introducing unique, game-native bosses or mutated zombies with special abilities could evoke a thrilling, Resident Evil-like atmosphere, creating a situation where even the most fortified bases face unprecedented challenges that go beyond just feral and radiated zombies.

Thank you for considering these thoughts. I’m hopeful we can collectively enhance the game for all players.

Consider me slightly confused. Overhaul mods added zombies with special abilities, i.e. elemental and status effects, as you acknowledge, then you propose adding zombies with special abilities as the solution? What should be different?

sorry for slow reply life got busy. I was saying we need them in the default game. but the new 2.0 update is adding something like the Darkness Falls so we will see.

Mostly I was saying we need something for the late game. Not just more Green Feral. It gets old fast. There needs to be a progression of enemy changes and unique attacks. Think Resident Evil. Lots of Zeds but then you think it is safe then you get something unique that challenges you.

-- Attacks that make you need to use more than all the Cheese the AI Bases Tactics we have in every game video. Especially the Raised Base where you zed run to one specific area and attack only from one area.

-- We need some Ranged, Flying, Shield, Small and Large Zeds. Bring back the Spider Zed that used to crawl on your walls to get to you (Not this stupid Frog leap that it does now.)

-- Smart Zeds that will Stay back and pelt your base from afar unless you snipe them. you know just something that give you more challenges in the mid and late game

This game old now, it has been out for over 10 years. I started playing it when i was working for HP back in 2012 or 2013. I have been playing since i think Alpha 4 or 6; when the land looked like stair steps and horde night was every night.

- There are lots of mods you can see where people get creative. So why cant we see similar work on the game now.

did you try rebirth or afterlife? there are a lot of challanging boss-type zombies with new mechanics, or ambush events out of the blue.
