thanks, I hope you understand I meant no disrespect. It just seems like people get treated as annoying in this section. and some of the screeds really are. but, mostly I see people who want good things for tfp and the game.
if there is no real need or want for them...no interest in even paying lip service to the idea, why have this section? it's false hope.

I told you 3 valid reasons to keep it. You gave 1 valid reason to remove it. TFP may have simply decided that those 3 reasons together are better or equal to the one reason you gave. Or they didn't decide anything and simply kept the status quo.

Oh, found another possible reason: For many posters pimp dreams seems also a way to post wishes for implementation. I.e. if a hundred posters would post that a kangaroo would fit very well in the desert then maybe it would be a reason for TFP to assume kangaroos are hot and need to be implemented.

gross? That assumes that if TFP actually implements a novel idea from the forum that they would not acknowledge that. I may misremember, but I already think I saw such an acknowledgement once(?).
The simple fact is that most ideas are very obvious and have already been seen in other games or thought up by the developers themselves. I.e. if a dozen posters tell them to please implement a boss monster and they would actually do that, that still isn't a new idea and certainly needs no acknowledgement if they were to implement it.

Some people assume if a modder implements something and it turns up in the game later it must have been the inspiration. Again this assumes too much. Most of the time there are a few obvious solutions for a problem and a game developer doesn't need to constantly watch modders to arrive at the same solution.

You do know. In every message you post . But Madmole once said they don't need advice in bussiness matters (whether that is actually true or not). And they made their plans as clear as they wanted to make them with that roadmap.

Lets be accurate: First and foremost it is you that seems to need or want a little reassurance. Many others complaining (i.e. the youtubers and their followers for example) have lots and lots of different but very specific ideas about what TFP should do, and they don't want to be informed as much as their demands fullfilled. They and you want entirely different things.

Yes, TFP did a "Town Hall"...Yes, changes based on the "town hall" are coming. This is the part where I point out to @Roland, that until THOSE changes are implemented. I don't think his 2.0 arguments hold any water. 2.3 IS different from 2.0 for sure...but until those changes are implemented...2.0 has not been completed. no matter how he tries to spin it....again...imo.

There’s no hard and fast rule about no new stuff making it into the game. It isn’t likely to happen for certain ideas that are large in scope or propose to take the game in an entirely different direction but it isn’t impossible for many other ideas.

Nobody from TFP expresses annoyance or insult over new ideas being posted. That’s just other forum users who like to critique the ideas proposed by others. All TFP has done is provide this space to allow ideas to be shared.

Some people like to dream and talk about how they would design things without really expecting the game to change to their vision. It’s fine to have a place for people to dream without expectations of action.

Why does it matter if people have a place to post ideas even if it's unlikely 99% of those will ever make it into this game? Does it hurt anyone to have a place to post their ideas? Some ideas do make it into the game. Whether those come from devs reading that forum or from seeing the ideas somewhere else or coming up with them on their own, doesn't really matter. Those who posted the ideas that make it into the game will be happy regardless.

Yes, a LOT of ideas that are posted are way too large in scope to have any real chance of making it into this game. They may have a chance of making it into a DLC or a future game, though. And many others very obviously do not fit within what the devs have planned for this game or are things the devs have very clearly said they will not do. Of course, they've been known to change their minds (understatement), so even then, there is a small chance of something still making it into the game. Having a place to post suggestions gives people a chance at least to see something change the way they'd like. That isn't a bad thing, even if the chance is extremely low.

As far as people responding to ideas... this is a public forum. If you're going to post something, you have to be willing to accept that people will reply. And some replies may agree with you, while others will not. Still others may just reply that they don't really care either way. Having someone point out that an idea is too large to have any real chance this late in development to make it into the game or that the devs have already said no is not a bad thing. It gives people some information about the chances of their idea making it into the game. Some people get upset when they hear people say their idea isn't likely to be added to the game, but that doesn't mean providing such information is a bad thing. There's no reason to get upset about something like that anyhow.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with people stating their opinions about ideas, whether in support of or opposition to those ideas. If TFP reads an idea and only people who support it have replied, then it may seem like everyone wants that to be added to the game. And it may be that only a few people actually wanted it and most are now really upset about it. On the other hand, if people who don't want an idea added say so, then TFP can see that it is either a hotly debated idea without any clear "winner" or is an idea that most people don't want, letting them decide whether or not to add it based on those comments. That is a good thing. People don't like to hear people disagree with their ideas, but that's life. It is so unlikely that you might as well say "never" that you could find a single person in all this world who will agree with every single one of your opinions. If people can't understand that and accept that people have different opinions and that having a different opinion and stating their opinion is not a personal attack against the person who suggested the idea, then they have issues that they should probably work on.

It is the person who starts "defending" someone else without asking that person if they want or need defending or what that person actually thinks that is more of a problem than someone who disagrees with a suggestion. We've had people like that here, who will start defending a person for some presumed offense and those who actually know the person being "defended" know that the person wouldn't agree with that defense. That is more of a problem than someone disagreeing.

Maybe organizing a public meeting on Twitch every quarter or every 4 months, instead of doing it only in case of a crisis, would bring the studio closer to their community and better harmonize the studio/player relationship and would also allow the studio to better understand certain parts of the community that are not very satisfied, because holding a public meeting only in case of a crisis may not be the best solution for many reasons, but doing it every three months would centralize the entire RS community (reddit, forum, discord, etc.) and make graphs to better understand the entire community, a bit like making a circle graph: dissatisfied, disappointed, a little surprised, neutral, quite happy, happy, very happy? and this will allow the studio to better understand expectations and better understand and grasp the satisfaction of the community? Twitch seems a poor choice for 2 way communication. TFP could easily inform players there, sure, but players only have this single text channel where dozens of messages per second scroll by and everyone then tries to post again and again to get heard between infantile comments of many many jokers. And if players are in a different time zone (europe for example) then they are out of luck anyway to post their views.

Yeh, sorta agree with meganoth's sentiment there; twitch is great, technically; but it's not for everyone. Professional streamers manage interaction with their audience really well, but that takes years of experience. Since it's not already running, it wouldn't stabilize to anything actually useful before the game is done.

TFP seems to have a plan and they're sticking to it; they've never discussed the contents of a major patch during development. They'd have to start demoing things that aren't ready to have meaningful discussions about them, that's another layer of complication for the dev; internal builds would have to be constantly polished for those etc etc.

It sounds like a great way to interact with the player base on paper, but it wouldn't really serve a purpose here.

Actually a very good idea, but hard to get a meaningful result. Doing it on one social platform is skewing the result, doing it on all social platforms costs a lot of time because not every platform has a poll feature (AFAIK) and you still don't reach the players who do not participate in TFP's social space at all.

If they had asked about storm duration or damage after release of 2.1 they might have got pointers about adjustments much earlier. On the other hand the big topic of 2.0 was the missing weather and I don't think they could have found that out with a poll.
