So. v2.0, v1.4, or just uninstall?

Why are people surprised they can´t go in buildings that aren´t meant for their current level/gamestage? In which game is it normal to go into end game areas with lacking gear and skill points? Why? How?
this one x'''D literally this one. also i am not surprised it just sucks that what used to be a fun risky thing that i could feasibly get my beloved pistol+9mm day one or two is not just.... not an option. i like being able to be a dummy in games and get rewarded for surviving with my teeth barely in-tact by having a reward i was too "low-level" to get x'''D

@theFlu Right, in a game that still is in development. So no surprises here. That´s what we can expect from a game that is not finished. I mean did you really think they will just let you walk to the best loot on day one? Which was possible with quite a few POI´s.

Now the time they spent on development is ofc very long here, but still.

Did I think that? No. Did I argue that? No. When was "getting the best loot" ever a thing since the lootstage was bound to character level and day? It wasn't. Or please show us you looting a Q5 M60 in 1.4 D1?

In the context of this thread, the OP is surprised at the chances for a new patch; you however are somehow turning that into a flaming session about someone's greed. Nah, the game changed under them; that's about it. Adapt and overcome, or uninstall.

I think if you were originally doing T5 on day 1, you could continue to do it now. You just need to look at the changes and adjust how you handle the POI. It is obviously more challenging, but if you were doing it before, I assume you like the challenge. It will just take some adjustments to how you do it.

@theFlu The best loot possible on day one ofc. It was possible to get iron tools out of the wasteland on day 1/2.

This is a very needed change. It made the game way to fast paced and it got boring soon when you could go wherever you want.

The execution is bad though.

The best loot possible on day one ofc.
You do see how that's a WILDLY different claim though? You increase the challenge and get a minor reward as a result. Nothing wrong in that. The scaling of the loot and the difficulty, that's a whole other discussion.

Well that´s basically easy mode. There was no challenge to loot some cars and get iron tools on day one. Or a quick poi loot haul if you know the building with the low spawn rates in the wild that was easy also. That´s what is wrong with it. It could be abused.

So you'd get iron tools like a day or two early? That was really a problem?

Yep. Messes up the whole progression if you get things on day one that you aren´t supposed to have on day one. Also this is just an example, tons of aloe on day one would be another. Being able to loot POI´s in the wasteland and having a way higher lootstage is another.

I see that many never heard "The route is the goal" but maybe that just a german saying. We got trough the game way too quickly before, that has finally an end at least to some degree.

If you risked the dogs and the mines etc, you'd get a 20% jump in your mining prowess. Whoop-dedoo. Now, I don't buy the "pure sandbox" -line of thinking either, but the limits being this hamfisted and mostly annoying time-sinks, there's a balance to be had. Now you'll get the same on D3 After wasting 3 hours of your life waiting for timers... :)

I guess I just don't see why having something on day 1 that you'd have on day 3 or 4 normally really makes that much of a difference. Though, I imagine I'm probably a weirdo having q5 iron tools on Day 3 or 4 at the latest (could be q6, but I'm not spending the legendary parts on tools I'm going to replace in another 3-4 days.)

Other people perk into guns, I perk into mining. I guess it shows what people prefer to do in the game. :)

@Vaeliorin The game is still in development. We don´t know if this is still the case in the final version. I really hope not tbh, for me that would be the next logical step to adapt the crafting progression to the biome progression.

Honestly, I would hate it. I already hate how much time I have to spend looting to be able to craft things. I generally try to have 30k cobblestone for my day 7 horde base (I play on 2 hour days), and getting that with crappy stone tools would suck.

I could play the majority of the game with crappy weapons (which I imagine would annoy other people who are more combat oriented) but crappy tools would be very frustrating. Maybe if they added a scrap tier or a stone pickaxe it might be better (I realize either of these is incredibly unlikely), but not having functional tools drives me mad.

Lock T1 weapons to the Burnt Forest, T2 to the desert, etc. I wouldn't care. But doing it with tools would have me running for a mod or just dropping the game altogether.

Seems you have a lot of bones to pick with 2.0, so I'd either revert back to 1.4 (and look into overhauls if vanilla 1.4 bored you) or just uninstall

In this one? For about 22 alphas? Don't get me wrong, if I go in a T5 on D1 and get my 🤬🤬🤬 handed to me, I won't complain, I'm happy. Even if never ever done in any other game, it ain't wrong to allow it. The loot will suck just a little less as the stuff in the T1/D1, so the rewards aren't worth it.. so the only reason to go in is the challenge.
Don't forget most sandbox games and many open world games such as Elden Ring, Minecraft, ARK, Conan Exiles, Cyberpunk, Don't Starve, Dysmantle, Elder Scrolls titles, Fallout titles, Far Cry titles, Grounded, Hogwarts Legacy...I can go on but many open world games allow players the ability to venture into distant and more difficult lands. The entire Dark Souls series allows people to level 1 club run it and there is a cult following for it and that isn't including many other games. Generally speaking most open world and/or sandbox games allow you the freedom to venture wherever you want with minimal restrictions.

Best advice I can give is just disable biome progression its a completly worthless and pointless system with how the game is currently as there is no reason to go to other biomes outside of the forest. You can just craft your gear in the forest. There is really nothing special item wise in other biomes that you can't just get in the forest.

7dtd hasn't really been a sandbox once alpha 17 hit, its gotten more and more linear with more and more sandbox elements slowly being removed each alpha. 2.0 now removes the biome exploration if you don't turn off the biome progression as your forced to deal with it otherwise. Thankfully TFP did something smart for once and allows you to disable biome progression, I hope that always stays an option as there is currently no real reason for the biome progression to exist as there is no reason to go to other biomes really.

But you can progress faster in other biomes, both via the better loot and higher GS leading to more/stronger zombies.

@Kyoji Minimal restriction? I mean yeah, that´s kind of true, nothing stops you from trying, but in many games you listed, going in those areas very early in game, will simply kill you pretty fast and you will get nothing from it. In 7 days you could cheese it and still survive and get what you wanted from there. Good luck trying to get an artifact in ARK on day one or even just getting near it. Or going into the volcano in Conan. Sure you can try, but other than death you will get nothing from it.

More linear but still very clearly a sandbox game still IMO.

Not sure what your vision is for the progression system or whether you like it in its current state. I think the progression system should reward progression. Keep in mind you can still cheese it with smoothies if your definition of that is simply collecting loot from a higher loot stage due to the biome bonus.

The difference from what I gather is you prefer more of a hard cap on progress while I prefer a soft cap on exploration.

As a very rough example, instead of forcing DoT damage in the biomes simply tie loot stage to be more in line with day/week progress.

So instead of a flat bonus to loot stage it scales with the current day/week to where the bonus the Wasteland gives in week 1 will be much lower compared to week 2 and subsequently week 3 until you get to whatever week. The burnt forest could open up after day 7 and offer it's full bonus value and the desert after day 14. The wasteland during each example would still give a better loot stage but more marginally so.

This puts more emphasis on progression and going through the biomes than the current iteration which is speeding through the biomes until you get to wasteland as it's easy to be wasteland ready before the third horde night which makes the burnt forest, desert and snow biome after thoughts.

This also allows people to play in whatever biome they want, albeit with their own set of challenges from storms, temperature fluctuations, radiation poisoning over longer exposures, etc.

I am ok with this only because progression can be turned off and because if you want proper progression then do that. You spend a few days max in the burnt forest until you can skip ahead.

Also loot cap should be removed after you beat the game (whether that is after the wasteland badge or after beating the Duke content in the future).
